I was in the US Army in 1960 and mdy mother wrote me all the time while I was gone. When I heard Mark sin gthis song at a concert in Freeport, Illinois, it brought tears to my eyes, remembering my own mother and the way she felt when she saw me step off the plane. Mark keep it up. Also, folks, when yo see a serviceman, say thanks and then thank Jesus,
I first heard this song in boot camp usaf... Two deployments in my career and finally home now... 6hrs active duty.. This song means more to me now than it did when i first heard it... Thank you...
I'm an A1C in the usaf as security forces, and we listened to this song every sunday in church during basic training, and it killed me the first time! By the end of basic, we were all looking forward to listening to this song, so if any guy tells you that he didn't cry the first time he heard this song, he's lying! lol God bless all my past brothers and sister
I was in the Navy ~35 years ago. My son told me about this song being on the radio; the first time I heard it, had to pull over, since I couldn't see. Since then I have had the privilege to hear Mark do this in concert twice. Just awesome. Have shared it with many Vets I know.
I once heard of a man that gave his life so that all others could LIVE his name was Jesus, We owe a debt to him for this. I once heard of a man that gave his life so that others could live and find this man name Jesus, I don’t know all their names, but I do know that we all owe them a debt to. Don’t let these sacrifices go in vein, love your brother, hug a soldier, find Jesus he is waiting for you!
I'm christian and I believe war has it's place. There are numerous places in the bible where the Israelites (with the blessing of God) went to war. War is sometimes necessary.
Hello, I was looking at the comment you made on "Letters from War". You had something like Christian vs. Christian, with references to Newsboy and SCC as trash. Was wonder if you could clarify for me. I do not see what you mean by "trash". Thanks
I just hope and pray that I don't have to look out for letters from war from all my friends in the armed forces. especially in the air force and army..
@bigbadmamajama11 @palmcroft6 -"Now I urge you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree in what you say, that there be no divisions among you, and that you be united with the same understanding and the same conviction." -1 Corinthians 1:10. We need to be focused on the things of Above, not the things of below.
Mark Schultz is a good singer, but to me this sounds like nither a positive or negaive war song.... my problem is that Christian singers are not leading the way in anti-war songs, anti-globalism songs, and the such that is destroying our world, our country, and the Christian religion... Non-Christain singers such as Linkin Park and such sing these songs... my thing is.. is Christain music become to politically correct??
I don't think THIS is politically correct. These days, PC has become pointless 'messages' about the 'cause of the day'. This is about the emotions and feeling of those who go to war, and those left behind. It is so good because it DOESN'T waste time being political. Not that there can't be good songs that are also political, but not everything has to be about that.
14 years ago this song still melted my heart and as a man I cry

I don't think Mark gets enough credit for how good a songwriter he is.

This song is one of Mark's that got me through when my son was serving an extended tour in Iraq. His music is such a blessing. +++
His songs were always heartwarming, but I'd say this was one of his better songs.
Not only a song, but a touching story. God bless.

@MusicLovinJesusFreak - He has hair on the album cover of this song. He is sitting on a piano bench looking down kinda.. you can see hair.
Oh he's only 19 but almost 20 so he still has a lot of his life to live and I just want him to stay safe.
This brings back Parris Island chapel memories
I love this song so much....I joined the military because of this.
I believe the Holy Sprite was with Mark when he wrote this song.

Chord progression reminds me of Iris by the Goo Goo dolls. Would make an interesting medley ;)

@THEBILL1993 Doesnt he also have hair in the music video for this song?
He should be at the top with the rest of the artists....He's much better than that bieber freak.
