The question about the place or position of Ndigbo in Nigeria before and after is somewhat more transactional than substantial. The bottom line is that Ndigbo's political worldview is incompatible with the rest of Nigeria. Mazi Mbonu Ojike was right; Zik should have listened to him, and the Ndigbo would've been better off. Zik sold Ndigbo a bill of goods, making them embrace a utopian vision of Nigeria. Ndigbo believed in a unified and seamless Nigeria where an individual's tribe and tongue are not impediments to claiming equal national status. Major Nzeogwu and his coup plotters shared the same vision. These are the colossal miscalculations of Ndigbo then and now!

Comrade Fidelix Ede, your thoughts are very reasonable and coherent. It seems to me that most current igbo leaders of the present generation are mostly cry babies and always in blame game mode rather than being conscientious and empathic.

This man, Mr. Fidelis Ede was making sense before he was asked what Ndigbo needed to do now.
The Unitary Constitutional Arrangement imposed by the military wing of the Northern Caliphate is the impediment that will never see any Igbo man close to the highest rank of Nigerian government. The same Unitary Constitutional Arrangement recognised the North as a permanent political majority and the South, especially South East, as the permanent political minority. All Ndigbo needs to do as one of the major Ethnic Nationalities in Nigeria is to stand with other Ethnic Nationalities in NINAS and exercise their inalienable right to Self-determination. Other than self-determination, Ndigbo will never be what nature has designed for them. Nigeria is never the project of Ndigbo and vice versa. The best thing for Ndigbo is to be part and parcel of the Nigerian Indigenous Nationalities Alliance for Self Determination, NINAS. QED

This is the problem with African wars: the groups directly involved are never allowed to slug it out among themselves, using their own weapons and personnel before foreign countries barge in and take sides. In the case of the Biafran war and for the first time in history, all major powers- USSR ( now Russia), Britain under Harold Wilson and the Arab League all lined up behind Nigeria to fight Biafra. The USSR provided state of the art MiG 16 and Ilyushin aircrafts maintained by Czech engineers which were flown by Egyptian pilots to bomb and strife Biafra which had no air defences. Similar attacks elsewhere today has lead to strident cry about war crimes, arrest warrants etc.
So now, decades later, local groups like Hausa-Fulani and Yoruba are strutting around boasting about "defeat" of Ibos as if any of them singly or combined would have prevailed without the support of the powerful countries and geopolitical blocks named above. This has informed their arrogance appropriation of the Nigerian state and its key institutions for their own benefit to the exclusion of Ibos. Inevitably this has led to the re-ignition of the Biafran struggle among Ibo youths.

Erudite gentleman, you are so right about the defeat and travail of the Japanese and their resilience as to culminate such a technological advancement, much to the wonder of the world. You have, also, indicated how they were occupied, after the war and how their Army was being controlled by America - a success story! The different, however, between them and the Igbos, is that they were dealing with civilized human beings and not, like the Igbos, who were dealing and, still dealing with savage and retrogressive and most atavistic set of people that ever walked the face of this earth. Did not America not encourage technological advancement? Did they not emmigrate Nazi and Soviet scientists; the likes of Einstein and the two brothers that established the NASA project, in addition to many others? What happened in the case of Nigeria? Did Gowan and those that controlled him want to hear anything like that in Igbo land. What was the general fate of the Biafran Scientists? Accordion to Samuel Ogbemudia, the then Military Governor of the defunct Bendel State, after the War, he suggested to Gowan, to “let us gather those boys, while their brains are still hot, but he refused and, said that it would be an extension of Biafra”. According to him, he went to IMT Enugu and recruited a group of some of those Biafran Scientists who form and running a program, called PRODA, to help develop his State. According to him, when Gowan found out, he ordered him to disband those group and, threatened to withdraw him to the Barrack. Even at about 1996, Cletus Izuogu, an Igboman, built a G-Wagon prototype and asked the Nigerian Military government to assist him, with funding. What hsppened in the end? He was arrested and, his equipment looted. There is no race in the world who are more longsuffering and ever more resilient than the Igbos. One can, however, argue the case of the Isrealites, but they are being aided and supported by America, but who has ever supported the Igbos? Everybody, instead, helps to subjugate them, either because of greed for oil, in the case of the West or due to tribal hate, envy and jealousy, in the case of Nigeria and her many unprovressive tribes. Obasanjo said the first ever truth, since he was born by his mother - that the reason why Nigeria refuses to progress, is because they know it will favor the Igbos more. Who can match the Igbos, in any aspect. Is it the Yorubas? A big joke! Is it in the Education they claim to be the best in? Another joke! Or, is it in the open market? “Nwoke m, I bu lu onye Igbo, kwe lu m onwe gi n’aka”.
    Ndewo.

True talk. Unless and until Ibos are de-coupled or de-couple themselves from Abuja and Lagos, Iboland will continue to be neglected by them.
As long as people can do shoddy work in Iboland, then run to Lagos or Abuja to live with their families, why should they bother? They even build Enugu
house, Ebonyi house, Imo house, Anambra house, Abia house etc in their imperial capital of Abuja with tree-lined, well-manicured roads while leaving the roads and
streets in Ibo cities unmarked with no traffic signs!

You are both right. Look at the mess in Anambra State. Why cant they use whatever little money they have to build quality infrastructure in Onitsha at least.
On the other hand why should money borrowed from China be used to build railways, airports in northern and western Nigeria only ? And when they are done with those regions, they move into Niger Republic to spend borrowed money. And yet Ibos are expected to be taxed to repair the loans! Not one so-called Ibo senator/rep has said anything about the decrepit so-called railway service between Aba and Port Harcourt or the non-completion of the new Enugu airport terminal started with others. Not one has staged a walk out...

Good program, rendered he a erudite mind. I, however, lost you, at the point of your positing that Igbo borrowed their mode of democracy, from the Greeks. Igbos have the earliest know democracy, in the whole world. Looking from afar Igbo system of governance, will seem disjointed and, therefore, unviable, it i is democracy, at its best as each and everyone has the opportunity, to speak his opinion. Growing up, as a kid our dad would get us, and we are many, around his table, what any major decision that affects everyone was at stake. Even though “the buck ends at his desk”, in the end, you see him adjusting his, already-firmed decision, having seen som wisdom, in the each one’s statement. It worked, because felt disregarded. Our brand of democracy, they say, is “Demo-crazy” which, in other words, is Autocracy. They need to borrow from the Igbo system.

The Igbo lacked strategic ideological plan to survive the post civil war period and a plan to socially reintegrate into the national political landscape. They lacked it. They didn't have a plan. For example the Igbo could easily produce a governor in Lagos State but they lacked the strategic alignment and common sense political accommodation

      Bro,
Can you explain to us how this plan to "social reintegrate into the national political landscape" would have looked. In particular, how does Igbo producing the governor of Lagos State help the Igbo? Amazing how everyone is busy churning out prescriptions of ideal political behaviour for the Igbo. I thought Zik was once elected as the premier of Western Nigeria. What happened afterwards? And now you are here prescribing the same political behaviour that did not get anyone anywhere.
