One of my girls is in a 3 foot viv, she uses every inch! 7% UVB. She climbs all over and really utilises it 😁 she has cork, branches, fake plants, Earth Mix, five hides and such. It's so fun to fill out the bigger space!
I've had my leopard gecko in a 4ft x 2ft x 2ft wooden enclosure for about 5 years now and he uses every inch! I use an elevated tile with a heat mat connected to a thermostat, a UVB lamp, and CHE connected to a thermostat during the winter but your videos have inspired me to make his enclosure bioactive with a DHP and background in the near future🤗. I don't doubt that your gecko will appreciate all of the extra space you're going to give him! I think when people have larger enclosures and they think that the space is too big because their gecko is consistently sticking to one area it's more likely due to the parameters being off or not having enough hiding spaces, etc. not because the space is too large. Love your videos🤗
Wow that sounds awesome! I currently only have a 20 gallon bioactive going but after we have moved I want to upgrade to a larger one eventually. I just got all this set up so it will be a while. Couldn't go any larger for lack of space at the moment. I bet your tank looks amazing! I wish people could post pics on youtube. I've thought this so many times. It's really the missing element here 😕
Hey Leopard gecko! Love your videos! I have watched you for a long time and I wanted to give you some love for putting in so much hard work to inform others! Thanks for the joy you bring others and for helping me get through my rough times in life.

I live in Texas so my apartment is naturally warm. I use a basking lamp and my gecko loves to go in his spot in the evening. He stays in his favorite bamboo tube during the day. He got a new hide today so I’m excited to see if he likes it.
I just came across your channel and videos this week, and really enjoyed the last one like this that you made. Great timing! :) Enjoy the vids keep it up

Im working on building a bioactive tank for my lil guy in a 55 gallon tank. Oth broke so i cut off ac and have my heat mat snd a deep heat projector on the way, so excited. I hope to make the best place possible for him to spend and enjoy the rest of his days, and hope it can turn out as good as some of the tanks i see on youtube. Im gonna attempt a great stuff background.
thank you, i‘m using a uvb light for my vivarium but the plants are not growing at all. now i just ordered a led light and i really hope that this will work.
Another good thing for keeping the humidity up in a crested gecko's tank is making them a humid hide/shed box. I made one for my crestie with a bit of moss and a plastic box, I just give it a spray every few days and I've found that the humidity stays between 60%-70% and I don't have a section of my tank covered. My crestie also loves hiding in the shed box
You are beautiful! I was doing research about my leapard gecko months before I got him and your Chanell helped alot thank you so much I've had him for about 6 to 7 months and im so glad I got him
Would you ever be interested in making a hide? (not like the clay one) Like the ones that you make out of grout and foam? I made one for my future gecko and it turned out great and its a pretty simple and cheap method aswell!
Im I fine with just a DHP in my 20 gallon tank? im unsure if I need a UVB light. I currently have a heat mat, ceramic emitter and a basking light. thank you for all of your helpful videos and love how you talk about the science behind it. thank you.
@Leopard Gecko Just a quick question, my leopard gecko really doesn't like the white UV lights and only comes out when the heat lamps are on. Is this normal?
Is the UVB bulb linear or compact? Is your gecko albino? It’s best to use a ceramic heat emitter or deep heat projector (best option) instead of a heat lamp.
When will you be doing one of these videos next? I just recently got my gecko and want to know how im doing. ive never had a pet before so im really nervous lol
Can u do a second video soon please I reallllly need help with my tank ,,, btw I rlly like your videos and I hope to have many geckos like u some day😁😁
I’m thinking of getting a deep heat projector sometime in the future, but if my tank is 12 inches tall (about 30 cm) what percent UVB should I get? (He’s a leopard gecko)
Well if you mean UVB lighting then That’s not necessary but if you want I’d say 2% considering they have sensitive skin...I’m not sure if the size of the tank matters but I heard only 2% UVB should be used

They don't really soak. He'll just need a nice humid hide with some moss to go into when he's shedding. A small bowl is fine for him to drink out of. I am thinking of changing mine out to a smaller one because why waste the space for something you don't need. Instead give him more room to walk around
I plan to get a baby geko in a month from now buying the items slowly one by one, literally have a list order, do i start with a small tank or do I go right away and use a 12×1218 tank for the baby geko?
What is the average wattage of a uvb blub for a leopard gecko? First a bit of info my tank is 30 gallons and I have a 13 watt uvb bulb. Just wondering is that too much or not.. (I tried looking it up but couldn’t find anything)... 😐
So my crested gecko is a little over a year old and I've been saving money to upgrade his tank. I've been wanting the 18x18x24 Exo Terra terrarium, but I can't find one that's a nice enough low price for me? So then I found those hexagon terrariums, and the dimensions are about the same as the Exo Terra, so should I get that? It's probably half the price and I could afford more decor for him. Is there anything wrong with hexagon terrariums? It's tall enough and large enough, so is it a good idea?
The 20g hexagon terrarium isn’t quite big enough for an adult. Check Craigslist for cheap 18x18x24 Exo Terras (or bigger). A plastic tub with the right dimensions would be inexpensive and also a good option.
I have a question, if someone can help feel free to leave your answer I live in a hot climate(Thailand) and during the day it's 32-34°c and by night it will drop to around 25-27°c. Do I still need a heat mat? Keeping a reptile is still a new thing in my country so it's pretty hard to reserch for an appropriet set up.
They need a warm side (32-34 for the surface temperature) and cool side, a temperature gradient. I’d imagine it’s cooler in your house than it is outside. You can use air conditioning. So yes, you may still need a heat source. Connected to a thermostat and measured by a digital thermometer.
@@fionashepley478 the temperature i give is actually what it us in my room. You might be surprise that here where i live 30 - 32 still considered breezy to warm and anything under 27 is cold. That's why I'm asking the question, if my room is already have that temperature(i didn't use my ac during the day and never go lower than 25°c) will i still have to use the heat mat? I don't want them to be too hot but i think i'll install it anyway just in case. Thank you ^_^
No, please get rid of it. They disrupt their day/night cycle and are bad for all reptiles. Use a ceramic heat emitter or deep heat projector connected to a thermostat. Regarding the water dish: it can be big enough for them to soak in, or it can be smaller. It’s your choice. I use a small one. Most won’t soak.
In any situation lights are pretty bad for terrestrial geckos in general most have sensitive eyes and skin. Leopard geckos have very sensitive eyes and light can do bad damage like blindness and even burns
Ryan.T/ RECKO Reptiles certain lights are perfectly safe for leopard geckos. They benefit from proper UVB, and do fine with LED as well. I’ve also seen them do well with heat lamps, although there are better options for heat sources.
I've heard that the lamps should be about 12 inches from the gecko. The to heat lamps are made by Zilla and I trust Zilla. Plus the small little bulbs are $30 each so I'm pretty sure he will be fine . what do you think.
Z Zimmerman not all Zilla products are good (just about all brands have both good and bad products), and not all of their products are suitable for leopard geckos. Night lights aren’t good for them at all as they disrupt their day/night cycle. Heat lamps aren’t the best option for them. If you want overhead heating a ceramic heat emitter or deep heat projector connected to a thermostat would be much better for them.
hello im a HUGE fan of your vids i posted a comment in your last video im not sure if you saw it but I got a crested gecko becasue of you! his house is a 16 inch by 16 by 20 inch cage but he has not been eating well. I have real plants and lots of coverage I also have many food spots for him. i feed him pangea. scince he has not been eating, i moved him into a 6 qt container and he has pooped 2 in there. he is 4 grams. I hope you feel better!
Isabella Song aw thanks sorry I didn’t see your comment. Aww he’s a little baby 😊 have you tried offering tiny feeder insects to him, and tried to ‘breeding formula’ by Pangea, I’ve heard that’s particularly good for growing babies. It may also be that he is eating but just not finishing his food? Even Lyra won’t always finish her food and she’s an adult 😊 you can also try hand feeding using a spoon or something :)
@@leopardgeckotalk i will definitly try the breeding formula. I tried insects before but he seemed to be scared of them, even the smallest babies. for a few nights, sometimes i will put a drop of food on a upside down milk cap and when i wake up, its still there. i think that he is improving on weight and maybe he is eating because he is now 5 grams! he also shed last night
Just a question. I have a leo for 6 months now (she was 1 year when I bought her) but she is very shy. I can pick her up but she immediately jumps off my hand and goes into her hide. Is this normal?
@@ryan.treckoreptiles3494 Thanks for your reply. I am scared that when I take her out of her tank to handle, she will jump off my hand and run away. I tried it one time and she was really struggling.
@@burningpotato1819 I can make a video on handling, so you can see how to work with it. Lol all geckos start off a bit jumpy mostly when they're young.
So I’ve wanted a leo for the past year now and I got one just yesterday. I did a bit of research going in but not a lot. I wish I had mine when this was going on so I could’ve sent something in :< but his name is Bahgeera and he’s so sweet.
If I took my gecko out during the day would it be a problem, or cause problems with their sleeping schedule? btw I love your videos, and your tips are so helpful!! ❤️
i feel like my leopard gecko tank is decent but im just a kid im 12 yrs old and i bought everything for my gecko by myself and im working on getting the money to upgrade her tank!
Same here... right after Halloween our female gecko did not recover from bearing eggs and got severely emancipated :( I’ll never forget the cry of shock my son had and I had to act quick to calm him down. I spent a whole day constructing a biodegradable coffin and we set her to rest in our planter with a little funeral :(
for baby leo’s , what temperature should you keep the cage at? Also during humans night time, what type of lighting should you use or should you use none at all? During humans daytime , should we keep the uvb light on? I’ve watched all your leo care videos but there’s are some questions i have. Plz answer thank you!!
Warm side surface temp should be about 90 (32-34C). Never use any lights at night. If you choose to use UVB (beneficial but not completely necessary, make sure you get a tube bulb), it can be on all day.
Fiona Shepley also another question (sorry!!) , so for the tube bulb should it go across the whole cage because some lights have like 2 bulbs? I understand the distance between the bulb and the animal thing but if the bulb is supposed to go all the way across the cage, why are there the two bulb lights? Sorry if this doesn’t make sense.
sarah dasilva the only UVB bulbs that can go in one of those two bulb domes are compact UVB bulbs. They aren’t good because they only provide UVB in one small spot (whereas tubes provide UVB over a much larger area and have more coverage), so compact bulbs are ineffective and the gecko won’t get enough UVB from them. Compact bulbs can also be harmful. So long tube bulbs are definitely the way to go
@@mav1s05 sure! I use eco earth, I got it on chewy, depending on how much you need that may be cheaper. They have the huge bags for about 12 bucks. I bought 2 because I don't compute in quarts so I have wayyyyy too much lol. I could do 3x a 20 gallon with that easily. If you have a 20 gallon tank I'm sure the medium bag would be enough if its around 10 quarts or so, I want to say the large ones are 24 quarts, and that is A LOT :) If you want to check other places there's josh's frogs, bio dude, pangea, reptile supply. Just look around a bit. I'd definitely order online though, it's cheaper than in store
PewPewCat I have about a 50-75 gallon tank so I will have to get one of those large bags but thank you just telling me where you got it! I will have to check it out!
@@mav1s05 definitely, I'm always comparing prices like a mad person haha. Chewy has a very limited selection but is a lot of times cheaper than most places BUT it always depends on if you can find a coupon code for somewhere. Bio dude has a sale going on right now actually where the substrate is 20% off. If you haven't gotten yours yet you should grab his sahara mix! In retrospect I wish I had gotten that instead of eco earth but I'm not uprooting my bio tank now. I'll transfer this guy to a bigger tank eventually and I'll probably use either a substrate from josh's frogs or bio dude. His stuff is specifically layed out for bioactive enclosures. I think the small bag is 9.95 but with 20% off it's more like $8 which isn't horrible. Just thought I'd let you know. I literally just got the newsletter yesterday that they are having the sale. It's only til Sunday night though! And you need to use the coupon code but they have it somewhere on the shop site, just be sure to use it if you buy, otherwise you don't get the discount
Sooooo my mom surprised me with new Leo from petco and he’s so small and skinny is there anything I should do because he won’t eat. I’m very worried for him and I’m kinda mad because PETCO😫 I HATE THAT PLACE
Oof for future reference please tell her not to buy animals from petco. It’s normal for new geckos not to eat but I’d take him to an exotic vet ASAP to check for parasites or any other health issues.
I have a baby leopard gecko in a 20 gal tank. The people at the store kept saying I shouldn’t but I still did. Yes he was stressed out for the first 3-4 days but know he’s fine. He finds his warm, cold and moist hide easily and has a big appetite. He does get scared when I take him out of his enclosure and seems 100% fine. Is there any other reasons I shouldn’t have a 20 gal tank
No, using a 20 gallon for a baby is perfectly fine. Keep in mind that it’s the bare minimum for an adult though, so when he’s full grown it’d be best to upgrade.
I mean I have a lot to go through :’) I start from the first emails that came in and work through. Sometimes though people will send in perfectly good setups with no issues, so they may be featured because there’s nothing to critique :’)
I recently switched my leopard gecko on to a deep heat projector but he only wants to bask when it is completely dark he is an albino so it could be that but I was just wondering if any one else has had this problem or if it's just normal
Hey, I noticed that Wikipedia changed its description on Leopard Geckos. It now states the following: "The common leopard gecko is a cathemeral, ground-dwelling lizard naturally found in the highlands of Asia and throughout Afghanistan, to parts of northern India." -Wikipedia I thought they were crepuscular, not cathemeral, and found this odd. What are your thoughts? Link: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_leopard_gecko
Is it too late to send in tanks to review? I urgently need some help because I was asking about some food advice and was told that my gecko's house is *badly* setup
ah I put up a post on instagram at the end of Jan about where it has to get sent to. I don't give out details in between posts as I will just be flooded with messages 🙈😂
Anyone know why my lil juvenile gecko won’t eat? I hand fed her the first day but I released a cricket in front of her so she could “hunt” it and the cricket hit in my faux plants so I just left it there. I checked the following morning and the cricket was in her hide hiding with her still alive.
It’s normal for new geckos not to eat but it can also be due to a husbandry problem or health issue. What’s the warm side surface temperature and is your thermometer digital or analog? Where’d you get her from?
OMG shes back from the flu. Im so glad your back because i have a prob i need to answer. I got my 7 inch leo a 20 gallon like you said but i dont know how much he needs to eat cause i have no clue how old he. All i know is that hes +6 months he 7 inches so if you know please help Thx🐥😁🐥
Omar Nunez ah right, I think (off the top of my head) my geckos are around 8.5-10” ish, so I think yours still has some growing. So it may be that he’s under a year old. So I would feed him every other day, like suggested for a 6-12 month old. Sometimes it also helps if you can keep an eye on their weight :)
So my leopard gecko has never let me hold it touch him , he's 7 months old I've had him for 6 months hes in a 10 gal. ( I'm working on upgrading him) he eats just fine but no matter what I try he runs away if I try an touch him, He's never bit me. , About a week ago. He let me pick him up. But the second I got my hand out of. The tank he jumped. Onto my bed and started to run and I had to catch him, 😐😐😐
Continue to hand feed the gecko. You need to build trust. Also dont force the gecko onto your hand. Eventually the gecko will trust you. You just have to work with the gecko often so you dont lose progress

I don't want them to be too hot but i think i'll install it anyway just in case. Thank you ^_^
Quick question, how often do you deep clean a geckos vivarium
Are red night light basking bulbs safe for a leopard gecko i know they don't really bask but it is what I use to keep him warm at night time
No, please get rid of it.
Will you do this again can I send my cage in?
Just a question. I have a leo for 6 months now (she was 1 year when I bought her) but she is very shy. I can pick her up but she immediately jumps off my hand and goes into her hide. Is this normal?
Just work with it more hang out with it for 20 to 30 minutes so it gets used to handling do that daily
@@ryan.treckoreptiles3494 That would be very helpful. Thanks!
So I’ve wanted a leo for the past year now and I got one just yesterday. I did a bit of research going in but not a lot. I wish I had mine when this was going on so I could’ve sent something in :< but his name is Bahgeera and he’s so sweet.
UVB Lights should be fine for Pothos at least. Mine grows below a 6% Arcadia T5, endures the abuse of my Boa Constrictor and does just fine.
To be fair mine does grow towards the UVB which is strange, but in the long run, with other plants, an LED is the best thing really
If I took my gecko out during the day would it be a problem, or cause problems with their sleeping schedule? btw I love your videos, and your tips are so helpful!! ❤️
It’s best to wait until evening when they’re active to handle them.
How did you guys send her your tanks?
i feel like my leopard gecko tank is decent but im just a kid im 12 yrs old and i bought everything for my gecko by myself and im working on getting the money to upgrade her tank!
Ahhh! I missed it! Should’ve checked Instagram...
Hope you feel better!
Thank you :)
How do we send you a picture of our enclosures?
Yayyyyy
My leapord gecko died ive been depressed for 3 weeks his name was danny 10 years old
Same here... right after Halloween our female gecko did not recover from bearing eggs and got severely emancipated :( I’ll never forget the cry of shock my son had and I had to act quick to calm him down.
Fiona Shepley thank you so much!!
So long tube bulbs are definitely the way to go
Fiona Shepley thank you so much!
Can a crested gecko tank be to crowded?
2 males is to crowded,
2 in a 24" tall (male+female)
3 in a 36" tall 24" wide (male+female+female)
Dont push it further than that
Do you mean plants or inhabitants?
PewPewCat I think I was referring to plants and other hides in the terrarium itself
Could I use Dry Moss as a bedding? Please don’t be rude anyone when replying, I’m just new to Leopard Gecko care.
No there's really better substrates. But to not waste your moss you can wet it and use it for the moist hide! Just don't use sand though
PewPewCat thank you!
If you have a 20 gallon tank I'm sure the medium bag would be enough if its around 10 quarts or so, I want to say the large ones are 24 quarts, and that is A LOT
:)
If you want to check other places there's josh's frogs, bio dude, pangea, reptile supply.
What is your supplement schedule? What is your digital temperature?
Hey could you do another one of these.??? And how can I be in one of these vids
Sanchez Perez you need to follow them on Instagram
Tango The Gecko ok thankyou
I’m disappointed mine wasn’t included ://
When’s the next tank review?
How do I show her my tank?
I mean I have a lot to go through :’) I start from the first emails that came in and work through. Sometimes though people will send in perfectly good setups with no issues, so they may be featured because there’s nothing to critique :’)
How can I show you my leopard Gecko set up?
I want an update on the ants
In the thumbnail I though it was You
Hows it going with your ants
I recently switched my leopard gecko on to a deep heat projector but he only wants to bask when it is completely dark he is an albino so it could be that but I was just wondering if any one else has had this problem or if it's just normal
That’s normal.
BIO DUDE
Hi, I don't have Instagram, I was wondering if I could still send you my tank. I just got my gecko 2 months ago, and I need some tips on the setup.
Hey, I noticed that Wikipedia changed its description on Leopard Geckos.
It now states the following:
"The common leopard gecko is a cathemeral, ground-dwelling lizard naturally found in the highlands of Asia and throughout Afghanistan, to parts of northern India." -Wikipedia
I thought they were crepuscular, not cathemeral, and found this odd. What are your thoughts?

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_leopard_gecko
Dan Luna ah interesting. I guess in a way that would make sense but I think anyone can edit Wikipedia so I take everything with a grain of salt :)
@@leopardgeckotalk yeah, I agree, Its concerning though because it may confuse new owners.
I was feading my gecko and all of the crickets came out what should I do
What do you mean by ‘came out’?
They all went into his cage and there was a lot of them
ken greene have you removed all of the uneaten ones?
Fiona Shepley what do u mean from his cage
ken greene uneaten crickets must be removed from the enclosure or they’ll start biting the gecko.
Take vitamin c 500mg and take a lot of water, chicken soup
WOW
I would like to get some help with my tank, what is the email I should send pictures of my tank to?
Is it too late to send in tanks to review? I urgently need some help because I was asking about some food advice and was told that my gecko's house is *badly* setup
I can help if you describe your setup or send me a dm (my insta is fionashepley)
@@fionashepley478 I just sent you a message, i'm novaviper

Animal Haven don’t worry, already helped them.
Is it normal for a leopard gecko to be in a hide all the time? Mine is always in her hide.
Yes. Although during the warmer months they’re usually out and about in the late evening and at night.
Fiona Shepley thank you

Anyone know why my lil juvenile gecko won’t eat? I hand fed her the first day but I released a cricket in front of her so she could “hunt” it and the cricket hit in my faux plants so I just left it there. I checked the following morning and the cricket was in her hide hiding with her still alive.
It’s normal for new geckos not to eat but it can also be due to a husbandry problem or health issue. What’s the warm side surface temperature and is your thermometer digital or analog? Where’d you get her from?
what is your digital temperature?
Animal Haven not trying to be rude, but why ask the exact same question I did?
@@leopardgeckotalk Thank you so much i hope you remember me beacuse o have been asking you all sorts of questions. ☺☺☺
Hi leopard gecko
Hey!
Can I get a shout out on Tuesday for my birthday PLEASE. You could just call me Zach
