Primes are excellent for gaming, just got a pair the other day and am really enjoying them, like you and others have said they’re not the best for music, not
nearly as much bass as you’d want and you’ll notice it right away. And other than the clamping force being a little high, they are still comfortable and the surround sound effect is insane, you can hear everything and know exactly where it’s coming from. also build quality is on point and features are perfect

Hello, I know I'm replying to an old comment, but I'm looking for new gaming headphones for Xbox Series S and I'm interested in these. From what I've read, people in steelseries headphones tend to feel a flat sound, while these headphones have a stronger HZ range, is the bass well balanced? I'm not an e-sports player so I just want comfortable sound, are your headphones still in good condition? I have a dilemma whether to buy wired or wireless headphones because I have never used more expensive wireless headphones, and apparently wired ones have better sound, do you know if the difference is noticeable? I also have my eye on Arctis 7X+, but I'm not sure if they are better than prime.

I just bought a pair of the primes and I am happy with them aside from music. It truly isn't good for music listening. I was immediately unimpressed, but then I hopped on a game and everything changed. Its like the sound quality did a 180 and became perfect in games

The attention for details and you going beyond and doing the research for us by comparing other headsets at the same price point. If u play warzone I found that footsteps and parachutes are very easy to hear up to 20-30 meters away. But air strikes and mortars will kill your ears. I almost have to turn them down everytime an airstrike is nearby. You won’t hear any footsteps or gunshots when any kind of artillery is called for sure because the explosions absolutely take over everything else.

Seems pretty similar to my Arctis 3, same audio bypass and all, just no wind sock. Was considering getting this one just as an upgrade, but as decent as the mics are, that loss of bass pickup is bad for how bassy my voice is, might just keep hold of my Arctis 3 and get a separate mic.

Great informative review. I had a question as I recently picked up a pair of these to use with my Xbox Series X. Simple 3.5mm hook up, the Xbox recognized a headset was hooked up. I could hear the game, but the mic didn’t work. Checked audio in settings, as well as the separate audio adjustment on the home page. Everything was on, adjusted correctly, but still no mic audio. I also noticed the mic mute light wasn’t activating.
So my question is there something that had to be set up on PC first, before these can be used on Xbox? Or should they simply work like any other 3.5mm headset, and shouldn’t the mic light up when muted? Did I just get a bad unit? Thanks in advance.

I am primarily a Warzone and fps shooter gamer. I have a cheap headset and am looking to upgrade , but would like to stay in the under $100 range. I use the 3.5mm port in the controller for my connection. With the Steelseries 3 can I still adjust audio with USB, save to headphones, and use 3.5mm to play? A sense of directional sound for footsteps, etc is what I care most about. Are these top tier for that in the price range or is there another headset that may perform better for what I'm looking for?

Everyone I game with is saying my mic sounds horrible and they can barely hear me. Torn between going the hdmi audio extractor and dac/amp route (game on a 1440p monitor) or picking up one of these headsets (hyperx cloudx or recon 500). I’d hate to invest in the extractor and amp and have it not solve the mic issue. Definitely leaning towards a simpler fix, and just getting an all in one headset. Any advice?

The ONLY bad thing, is the Mic. You will need to increase your settings even in game, highest settings on your console will still be quiet.
Specifically on warzone: the mic threshold thing is giving me nothing but stress 😩😩 on 1 setting it is CONSTANTLY showing as being heard. This symbol on screen drives me maaaad. Increasing the threshold up 1 suddenly means I have to shout. There is no perfect one rn.

In gaming with sound card Prime ise way better, powerful and comfortable than Cloud II, Logitech G Pro x and GSP 601. Why i saying that because i have 3 of them. And with GSX 300 sound card and Arctis Prime is another level headset because have Hi-fi drivers.
You cannot getting full potential with mobo sound card or laptop even PS5 controller sound. No you need good and powerful Usb sound card for this headset potential.

It's nearly half the price of the pc38x, and the main reason, pc38x being open back it's going to disturb people in the house around me hearing the game and me hearing them through the headset. Again thanks for the chat this morning. Coupling the prime to the turtle beach chat mixer for the controller

Sound quality is top notch on this headset. The microphone is absolute garbage. The first one I got, the mic didn’t work so I swapped it out. The second one? It worked but I had to basically yell like Lil Jon into it in order for it to work on Xbox. I really wanted to like this headset, just had to move on to something else.

Lol yeah it seems the mic is incredibly inconsistent on this headset which stinks. I bought this one, so it wasn't a special sample sent to me by SteelSeries. I must have received a unicorn model though, as the mic wasn't great but not nearly as bad as what I've heard form others.

So you have a couple ways you can go.
If you want a bright sound stage (very open and detailed sounding), and don't mind the stronger clamp force, the Arctis Prime is a top pick. The controls, comfort, and sound stage are excellent.
If you want a more laid back/smooth sound (not super bright/detailed), then the Recon 500 is a top pick, as the long term comfort on it is phenomenal. These also sell for only $80 which is nice.
HyperX CloudX is an incredible value with sound quality and comfort, but I don't like in-line volune/mic controls which is a deal breaker for my own preference.
Lastly, the Xbox Wireless Headset is a surprisingly comfortable headset, with wireless and Bluetooth support at $100. The bass is overpowering out of the box, so I would use my EQ video to tune it if you go that route and want wireless. The mic on the Xbox Wireless Headset is the worst of the four headsets mentioned here.
I hope that helps! Sorry if I made things more confusing.

    • @GadgetryTech
      @GadgetryTech  3 года назад +2

For controller/console- Arctis Prime. For PC, if you buy the BlackShark v2 + USB DAC, you have more control over your sound (EQ, THX virtualization, etc). If those features are important, then buy the BlackShark, but if you just want to plug and play, stick with the Arctis Prime. The BlackShark still sounds great too though!

Arctis Prime is up there if you can deal with a slightly quiet mic. If you can still score an Arctis 7X under $100 due to clearance that would be ideal as well. If you need wireless under $100, the Stealth 600 Gen 2 sounds great for the money but has a super sensitive mic. Lastly, the Blackshark V2 is a good all-rounder.

how exactly do you have the microphone connected to the PC? my friend and I have been trying to figure out why the mic quality is very muffled when using the dual audio jack. we think it might be a usb connector because that tends to produce the best mic quality, but the headset didn't come with such an adapter.

I connected it to a laptop that had a 3.5mm (combo port) built into it and used Windows voice recorder. The other method used a much more expensive setup (Schiit HEL2 amp/dac) with a y-splitter that came with one of my ROCCAT headphones and it worked well also.

@@GunlogicsTV So Best Buy will limit you a little bit but, if you want the best wireless headset sold there for Xbox, it's still the Astro A50 as long as you can use an optical cable. If you can't then it's between the Arctis 9X and the Stealth 700 Gen 2 (as far as competitiveness goes).
For wired, it's likely going to to be either the Bose QC35 II or the EPOS GSP 600/601/602. My review for the GSP 601 may go live as soon as tomorrow, but by next week for sure!
Lastly - a "God tier" build (not at Best Buy) would be a y-adapter + Antlion Mod Mic into the controller, with the line out going to something like the JDS Atom or Schiit Hel2 headphone amp, which would then be connected to the Hifiman HE1000se. That whole setup would cost right around $4,000 but nothing would come close for gaming. I'll likely put this all together for a "fun" video of what's possible.
