  • I got a call from this homeowner saying his gravel driveway hadn't been plowed yet all season (as of Jan 27th) and he'd just been driving over the previous snows with his 4x4 truck but the buildup of storms had him stranded. He mentioned he contacted several other snowplow companies and nobody wanted to touch it. I went over and had to walk up the driveway to see what I was potentially getting myself into. It's gravel, it's long, it's curved, it's crowned, it's got steep parts, and it's got plenty of hazards on either side. Obviously the driveway is covered with snow so I can't see what's under the snow. If I get just a matter of inches off to either side....at best I'll have a 10,000 pound pickup with a plow on it and 2 cubic yards of sand to recover. Who WOULD recover that? Who COULD recover that? Could they even get to me? Not without having the plowing done first. With how deep the sides and water holes bordering this driveway are it's possible the truck would have tipped on it's side with such a high center of gravity due to the sand on the back. Anyway I packed up tools, jacks, lumber/blocking, straps, chains, etc and headed up there with both of my trucks. I put tire chains on the back of my orange 2004 Silverado 2500HD 6.0L (Nemo, notice the different sized mirrors) and did the heavy lifting with that. I also sanded the driveway afterward. That 1st pass through you may notice the plow is about 6" off the ground. You can tell by the angle of the yellow triangle on the plow.
