Coaching J Girl down the rocks on Calculated Risk at Spirit Mountain - Overcoming Fear

- In this weeks video I follow J Girl down Wrecking Ball to Calculated Risk and then into Monkey Business at Spirit Mountain in Duluth, MN. Jess had never been down Calculated Risk before. So she was hitting all of it blind as I followed her down. We stopped at the top of the rock rolls and I coached her on how to attack it. She was nervous but overcame it and I'm very proud of her!
The rest of Calculated Risk was closed so we took Monkey Business from there. She helped me film stuff on Monkey Biz earlier in the day but hadn't really rode it yet so pretty much this entire run was new to her.
This video could be helpful for you if you ride or are going to ride at spirit and want to hit Calculated Risk as I try to break down where the lines are and how to ride the rocks and drop.

Sprit looks fun as hell. I need to make it up there.
Oh it’s a blast man!
Yeah, J Girl! Killing it!
Hell yeah buddy!
Thanks! 🙃
Jess, you’re killing it! You’re progressing every time I see you ride. Sick video y’all!
Hell yeah dude! She’s killing it. Gotta go back and get the entire line at some point
Awww shucks! Thanks dude! ☺️
Looks like fun. A bit harder than what I can do. I don't like rocks. They hurt. Thank you for sharing this with us
They do hurt haha. You welcome buddy 🤙🏻
Nice. Cool to see a dissection on the different lines and great work by J girl tackling that.
Next time we go she’s going to send the drop 🤙🏻
Thanks dude! 🙃

Thanks buddy! 🤙🏻🤙🏻
@@ridindirt always welcome sir🚴♀️🚴♀️🚴♀️🚴♀️🇸🇦
Great and helpful vid. Ridin' Dirt has serious skills but he also knows the line choices too, which is big. Just as with skiing videos, vids like this are so misleading. It doesn't look that steep. It is. J Girl is very relatable!
Thanks for the kind words! Glad you thought it was helpful, it was the intent 🤙🏻
Killing it nice work. I hope to ride some of this and not chicken out. I'm sure this looks much worse in person. Going there first weekend in Sept. Cant wait!
Nice! It definitely looks worse in person haha. You got it though 👊🏻
This section is pretty gnarly
Yeah it is. I had never really stopped and looked at it before. Definitely looked gnarlier than I thought
@@ridindirt yeah I ran Into you on it when you were filming this I believe 😂 it was my first time and it’s definitely serious go pro affect
@@MidwestFreerideColation yeah go pro effect on this for sure! Is this Matt?
@@ridindirt yeah haha it is 😅🤣
@@MidwestFreerideColation yo! 🤙🏻
I’m one of those three kids that almost ate shit, but we didn’t! 🤣 #SendIt
Haha hell yeah dude! That ride around sketches me out. I’ve never even tried it, I’ve always just taken the drop.
I think next time we’ll have to take the drop too. Thanks for showing us the line through that section!
@@joshwinslow2726 yeah dude, send it! 🤙🏻
CriiiiiitiCULL!
Yesss!!!!! Love you buddy!
Best comment ever!!!!!!
I have yet to see that section in real life but I am scared of it already. Really just the drop at the end worries me the most. Nice work!
Thought the same thing. The drop looks smooth, but I know the mental game would get the best of me.
It is a decent sized drop. Like any drop though it looks more intense than it actually is. I think the ride around is more sketchy.
@@ridindirt yeah, you mentioned that in the video. I've seen that ride around in Seth's video. Doesn't look awesome.
I used to take the wide right line, which is what I see most people do. I figured out that if you stay middle and split the difference between that line and the drop (basically same line as Ridin Dirt except stay right of the drop), it's actually much better.
I finally did the drop last time up there, but it felt super sketchy. Watching this I realize I was going slower and kinda hopping off it, but more speed and no hop/pulling up off of it seems much more smooth.
@@BrianVaughn it’s just awkward. Off camber and wants to throw ya over the bars
