Ekkk the only reason I have any clue is cause I pulled my old cards out and started looking at stuff after recently starting to rewatch the original anime
They advertised speed duels irl in duel links. But realistically if there's no prizes or incentive to buy the "speed duel" cards why spend the money when I can continue to play DL for free? So I think what they're trying to do is bring DL players to the physical card game.
Am part of that audience. I just play MtG and don't see that changing for konami's new makeshift product.

Konami never really learned how to promote this game, back in the day they had the anime which worked in their favor due to its popularity, so promotion wasn't a problem. But now it really shows...
you would have thought it would been like recent Trading card game animes where they actually don't lie about the mechanic of the gameplay. yeah sure Yugioh was the best watched card game anime but it never literally followed the real game rules and make that look actually exciting ala anime. it basically screw the rules plus Crazy anime plots.

@@w.s.7567 That doesn't really mean shit. The game is still a shadow of what it formerly was, at least mainstream wise. You can really judge how popular a game is with how many casual players it has and yugioh's casual audience is very small nowadays. I remember during the game's hayday pretty much everyone in my neighborhood had a deck.

Kind of fun for me because my 8 year old daughter and I both play duel links. But we are on different device types so we can't play together really. So Speed Duels allows us to play the cards and format she is familiar with. Plus, we can sit down and play in person. Good bonding for me
Same here, I fell in love with this game and my daughter was having a hard time understanding the game. When speed duel came out, she now actively ask me to play and understands the game well.

I took a very similar stance on this, glad to see the realism. Speed duels are VERY exciting, but the organized play is sorely lacking. YCS wont be near many peoples areas so investing in product to play just in side events is lack luster. It needs a big main event like a YCS to generate hype.
only four people played at the release day speed duel tournament at my locals, so me and my cousin each got the top guaranteed and won the mat for entry, then had a standard TCG format tournament after cause it only took 5 miuntes lmao

It would be nice if Speed Duels had a code on their cards, then it could cross over into Duel Links. It's one of the features that Chaotic had that caught my interest.

I've been playing Speed Duel format through Duel Links, and it's probably the most fun I've had with Yu-Gi-Oh! in a long time.
Actual back and forth play really makes the game shine for me, and the character skill system makes it really feel like the show.
The reason you don't hear about all these tournaments for it is because this is meant to be the casual man's Yu-Gi-Oh!. Having tournaments for it will just attract a bunch of competitive players. And that would defeat the purpose of Speed Duels being made for casuals to have fun in a tryhard-free environment. It's just meant to be a fun kitchen table Yu-Gi-Oh! experience where you can basically roleplay as your favorite characters from the show, nothing more. A "meta" would sorta just ruin it.
And if they reboot the anime, I'd want it to be more accurate to the manga. Cuz the anime we got was barely accurate to the manga at all.
I think speed duels are great, a refresh on the format, hopefully Konami learn from their mistakes with the TCG and dont release completely busted cards. Ive got my preorder on "Arena of Lost Souls" in place

if Konami was smart, they would avoid their mistakes of the app on the rl format.
I'm going to get a lot of flak for saying this on a channel with a lot of competitive players, but I've had more fun speed dueling with friends than I've had playing the TCG in years. Konami should definitely put more focus on speed duels, and even if the anime isn't rebooting, the next series should still make that the main focus.

couldn't agree more. the anime should focus on speed duel format. if new players see the anime and want to learn the game its overwhelming. Speed duel format keeps it simple for teaching new players.
speed duels need a massive boost in available cards. i think of something like battle pack 3 that had over 200 cards in the set. arena of lost souls only has 50 new cards to add... that is less cards than 1 of the starter boxes. we also need more than 6 characters. They need to rush out way more starter decks. We don't even know if any new characters are coming other than bonz...
Speed duels is the main focus of Yu-Gi-Oh Vrains. They only occasionally play master duels.
Don't worry bro, you shouldn't get flack for this. As a competitive TCG player, I can say that those of us who aren't toxic don't attack the more casual players unless the latter talks shit. Saying that speed duels are more fun is not talking shit, just a harmless opinion, which some competitive players can actually agree with.
However, those guys who left the game and say it sucks or that it's "degenerate" or any other mindless, hateful insult deserve all the lack they get and much, much more. It's okay to have an opinion, but it's just not okay to say it's better than other opinions.
Well, what I'm saying that is that Yugioh is about fun mate, not political correctness. I mean, politics, very shitty politics, do exist in Yugioh, but they shouldn't interfere with the lives of sensible players. Never be afraid of toxic bitches, bro.

I just learned about this a month ago. Gf and I like the format of speed duels now.
I'm actually a new player who has only played a few games before now getting into the game. Speed Duels was actually the first product that I bought to sort of learn the game. I really enjoy it because of the quick stripped down nature and I feel it's easier to get people to play it because of those rules as opposed to normal yugioh which is fairly heavy for beginners I feel. So I really hope that they support and promote the product more so that new players like me or older returning players can also have something to enjoy at a casual or competitive level.
Hey I needed to see this video. I just picked up my old deck after a 5 year absence from the franchise and was shocked with the change of rules and addition of link cards. This episode helped me get back into yugioh in a more simple way. Right on!
I enjoy Duel links because it brings it back to a time where you can play the game. You know. Instead of watching your enemy summon quasar dragon or a buncha extra deck monsters in one. Modern day duels are more a spectacle instead of a battle. In duel links I actually had heart of the card moments and it felt so good.
I had my Level 8 Silent Magician taken by the enemy's Relinquished and he just destroyed my last monster. All I had was Dark Valkyria in my hand and a field spell that stacked Spell Counters. At that turn I drew Supervise which equips to Gemini Monsters giving them their effect. I stacked enough spell counters to destroy all his monsters and win the duel.
That duel was intense because anything could happen. Nowadays Yugioh has become more like Chess where you try to Checkmate instead of battle. It's boring when you know you're gonna win or lose. I don't get the same satisfaction of a well fought duel playing current TCG anymore.
UPDATE: They've since added prepaid decks that give really strong cards. Playing rank you'll most likely run into people who use these prepaid decks. Since I've played regularly I have the cards to deal with them without paying much, but for newer players who don't pay they'll most likely lose. Really bad on the games part. They're really pushing the pay to win early despite you not needing too if you play long enough.
I feel you. I play Duel Links too and my thoughts are the same of yours. Sometimes it happened to me too, to draw the right card to win in a difficult situation that would made me lose.
Please stop with your bullshit. How dare you to even COMPARE the highly complex and fast-paced format of Chess to modern day yugioh.

My friends and I literally went to buy starter decks and a couple of booster packs for less than $15. We had so much fun playing. I hope they make it simple and easy to keep up with the meta.

Before speed duels officially came out, I just played the anime version which is master rule 4 with 4 cards to start and 3 main monster zones. Works just as well
The anime had 5 zones....
For master duels, not speed duels. The first duel to have 5 zones was the master duel between Playmaker and Revolver. Speed duels have 3
The thing is, the reason why we know so many regular packs are coming out is because they're announced in Japan long before we ever get them.

@@alecfields1153 Speed dueling is gonna be TCG exclusive i'm pretty sure, Japan has a separate kind of speed dueling which uses the full cardpool.

Speed dueling is awful its basically faster and more consistent decks with super abilities eventually its faster than ever if enough cards from the regular tcg. Are in there. Thats why we need new balanced cards and rotation there wont be any chnage if they just use the old cards again
I love the idea. Duel Links brought me back to Yugioh and it really interests me for the nostalgia factor, but I have more interest in wanting to get into competitive TCG, so trying to stay current with Speed Duels seems counterproductive for me.
No I refuse to walk through the nostalgia for the 3rd time. They haven't got the first one right, so why are we even going to keep pushing it aside and just start over. They did with duel links and look at that. They are constantly replaying power creep to kill a game that's already been dead. Their is no "fun" in competitive Yu-Gi-Oh. Which last time I checked competitive games are suppose to keep you wanting to play... Which we are in a state of death in this game. Change my mind

Paul can we revisit this topic? Effectively there have been 4 main sets for this format, and they just released the battle city box along with the two other starter decks. Personally, I fall into that group of people you mention in this video that still watch you and was absolutely stoked for this battle city box. Picked up 3 booster boxes as well and am gonna have a blast with the family at home

I love speed duels. It's very nostalgic for me because I grew up on the Yu-Gi-Oh (DM) anime. I wish they would add more box sets with duel links characters like Bakura or Rex

If anything, Speed Duels is just an irl version of Duel Links. Duel Links is also free to play, with optional micro-transactions.
After being out of the Yugioh tournament scene for years, this was really helpful in understanding what Speed Duels are. I saw packs and decks but never really looked into them but when I saw my favorite chatacters on them again I had to.
This may be the type of style that will appeal to me. I played from the beginning, when all we had were YUGI/KAIBA starter devks, complaining why POLYMERIZATION wasnt a common card, when we called it "sacrificing" instead of tributing, etc. And as the game evolved snd became a bank breaker I stoppef hitting the tourney scene. I built theme and character decks for fun, found I enjoyed it more that way. Yugioh was like chess, you got meet and know your opponents in tourneys, it wasn't about how fast you won or how you could embarass the other person. And I liked that. Im glad with all the new card types there is more creativity (though I still dont get pendulum summons lol) but everyone seems to play the same or copy whats popular. This seems for perfect for OG style gameplay where it doesn't seem as gimmicky. Where it does rely more on skill and knowledge rather than just card effect. I may look into this so thank you guys for the great video. I agree with all your points and especiallyvthat not advertising hurt this alot. I also feel calling it SPEED DUELS hurt it as well because the current game is fast enough, why infer this is an even faster style?

While this couldn't tie in to speed duels at all, I've particularly wanted a reboot showing how the entire story would have played out if it didn't turn into a TCG tie-in after season 0, the writing was so much better under that premise.

Eh, not really. Bakura was a big villain, but he was a one and done villain.
He kinda just BS'd his way back into the story, once Kazuki decided to make him more prevalent.
Shadi would definitely be a recurring character, but he wasn't a full on villain, and I imagine he would've been more of a guidance or introduction to the later plot, but I'm sure a lot of the focus would still be new games and new villains to introduce them, with Millennium Item holders being the big bad that pops up to play a unique game, but then done away with in a couple chapters/volumes.

la jinn and summoned skull were pinnacle in my Beatdown (started when LOB was newer, yugi and joey decks just came out)
I'm glad someone finally made a video about this. I was going to buy both versions when they came out but no one else knew what they were so I decided not to.
My honest opinion on speed duelling is that it is a genius idea. It's the perfect segue for new players and former players *as well as* current players who just want to return to the roots and maybe enjoy a quick game. Speed duelling is to Yu-Gi-Oh! competitive as bot matches are to ranked matches in an online game.
It's just Yu-Gi-Oh! go-fish. If you don't have time for a full game, you've got speed duelling. I just think that they need to promote it better, exactly as you guys said. Otherwise, it's a fantastic product.

For current players I think it's a really fun thing, as it gives us a lot of older cards that are harder to find in modern sets, but I completely agree, it's not really being aimed at who it needs to be aimed at.
The biggest problem for me is that it's already unbalanced. I wanted the old yugioh back with back and forth and not a bunch of blue eyes otks.

I'm a duel links player and I love your videos, even though nearly all your videos are about the TCG. Duel Links rejuvenated my interest in yugioh.
I love speed duels, I set up a speed duel club at my school and my kids love it.
As for friends we play Speed Duel Highlander, same rules with the exception that decks cannot contain copies of any cards.

I'm sorry, it's just I'm so glad this became a thing. Speed duels have been amazing for my club, as they are easy to draft, low cost, feel anime style, and are just FUN! I honestly want to get more speed duel product, and maybe see some of the original boosters re released as big box sets.

This is spot on. I haven't touched Yu-Gi-Oh since I was like 10 and the game went in a direction I didn't like. I stumbled across speed duels because I noticed the original show was on Netflix and looked up if the old cards and game were available in any form.
We have no idea what's coming after Arena of lost souls because probably they aren't even sure if they're gonna release more product. The reception can be trash and they will just drop the format

Sad that we have tag national champions who never had the chance to defend the title they earned. Give tag it’s own ban list and print a special pack for it once a year just like battle pack. Then add tag specific cards to core sets or even better cards that are good in standard yugioh but excel in the tag format.
My BF got me the GX academy box recently for my birthday and we didn't really plan to play the format, just get the cards, build some decks from them...etc. He knows GX is my favorite era (DM is his) so he just got it hoping to get the Flame Wingman secret rare.
After trying it anyway, we fell in love with it. It's instant nostalgia, just a bit faster. Skill cards let you pull of some combos and play some cards you couldn't really play even back in the day, at least not with any dose of consistency.
Now we just wish we learned of this a year or two sooner because we missed all the DM content that came out. I mean, he DID know about it but had no idea what it actually was. I've already ordered the Battle City box online for him. It's his favorite story arc.
So yeah, this was a big missed opportunity because there is a ygo playerbase out there, mostly made of dormant players that miss "the old days" that would probably like this but most never heard of it, have no idea what it is or completely misunderstood it so they never gave it a shot. Also this could be a great entry for younger kids that might enjoy it.
We want the classic yugioh game back.

I think the official rule for starting life points should be 4000 like in the anime. If you want more life points, use cards that help you get extra life points

What annoys me the most about the yugioh community is how little they want to try new things because they would rather play meta, meta and oh wait meta. It would be nice to take a break from being ash blossomed but yugioh players are soo stuck up refuse to take a step back.

That would make it cool and it would be cool to see people use skill cards in this type of format but everyone just wants to get ash blossomed and dark dragun and gg. @@dimensional9536 Something that Buddyfight has taught me through it's anime is that theirs no point to a card game if you don't have fun. The problem I think with the Yu-Gi-Oh community is that their all geared towards trying to win as fast as possible instead of having fun. I quite enjoy a good defense but theres such a powerful defense that's used as offense in Yu-Gi-Oh that you aren't even allowed to take your turn. I do agree that Speed Duels and Duel Links are far funner, I'm quite disappointed that Rush Duels are Japan only.
@@jarodnole4618 honestly I would have loved to own the new rush duel cards. See the pokimon tcg has virtual version where you can get codes whenever you buy packs. This would be a really good way to get people into buying more speed duels products to get a virtual pack codes for duel links too. It would be good for a business and gaining more community!
@@dimensional9536 considering how Duel Links has been infected too by the ftk and unfairly win against your opponent style of duelists I think it would be better just to create a whole new app, But agreed it would be so much better if Yu-Gi-Oh took it to digital too. Although that said there is YGOPRO which allows you to play with any Yugioh card in existence
I bought our first speed duel decks (rex and weevil) for my wife and I a few days ago but we haven’t gotten a chance to play it yet.
I’m looking forward to it because my wife hates how standard fuels can drag out so long. It seems to be a “quick fix” dueling format that is old fashioned (how we play anyways).
I can’t wait to see how it flows in game. Love the videos you guys make! Keep it up!

Also, aswell as "Arena of Lost Souls" there has been another set announced "Attack from the Deep" for May.
More information or tournaments or where to play would be nice. However, they've already announced another set and advertisement has been made. Something right?
I've been using a 20 card format for 3 years it's fun harder to build decks that are cohesive but that's fun personally the kids love it
Am I the only one that hates Links, Pendulum and Speed Duels? I only go as far as Synchro. But baaaaaaaaarely.
Pendulum and Links are trash, but duel links is ok
I've never played Yu-Gi-Oh and these will be my first try. I picked this up for causal one on one play at home. The way I heard about it was staring at the wall of tcg cards at Target

I haven't played Yu-Gi-Oh! in years, me and my son used to play casually after watching the anime. We've just started to play MTG and Pokemon and I checked back with Yu-Gi-Oh! too and man it seems to of changed a lot.
It was pretty straight forward back then, but now when your talking about different formats etc??? Definately gonna check out these Speed Decks as they may be just what we need to get back playing without all the hassles of learning new rules etc.

Duel links is way faster than speed duels. It plays like the TCG in tempo but with a smaller card pool
ITS A FORMAT FOR CASUAL PLAYERS AND OLDER ENTHUSIASTS IT DOESNT NEED TO BE SUPER TOURNAMENT HEAVY.

I started watching this channel (actually kind'a religiously) pretty recently, and hadn't heard of Speed Duels, went to buy some cards, saw this great deal on a Yu-Gi-Oh GX box with 8 starter decks for ~$30! Wowza! Open it and suddenly learn what Speed Duels is. Kind'a felt half burned because I just kind of want to collect cards, and I don't really want to count Speed Duel cards with my normal collection. I can however see myself enjoying it with friends, most of us love GX, so it works out.
I love sharing speed duels with my friends who don't even play yugioh anymore

You're supposed to trade cards, not sell them.
But selling is just trading cards for money.
And money is essentially just a bunch of coupons for alot of different stuff.
And food is just a clump of cells from a dead organism.

as someone who loves the slow back and forth dueling and hates anything past 5Ds and synchros I'm in love with speed dueling. but you are right there is a massive marketing issue. I stumbled upon a rex raptor/weevil speed duel box while at target the other day and had no idea what it was. so I picked it up and looked into it, and since have been really excited to try it, and am going to a local event this weekend!
Instead of creating new yugi-ho modes I would be just happy if They fix the main game, prices are completely out of control, we have mountains of cards that are useless and a time policy that came up from a mushroom trip, so what can I say? maybe we as a community got what we deserve.

the secondary market prices are entirely the player's fault. every time some idiot pays 100 bucks for a card that tell the vendors and scalpers that people are willing to pay that price and it keeps perpetuating the cycle. stop dropping your entire paycheck on a playset of the new hotness and the prices will go down.
@@walterlopez5054 Both the players and the company are partially responsible for this. Rarity hikes and short printing can drive up prices as much as player demand for good cards. Worth noting that OCG TDIL Pot of Desires is a Super Rare and was going for about ¥150 (a little less than $1.50) while the TCG Secret Rare was going for $60.
@@SuaveTito that is again OUR fault. when we saw the ocg version of Pot of desires we hyped it up. Ko-Money saw that there was demand and juiced the rarity. same thing happened to rescue rabbit back in my day. its ocg printing was a silver letter normal rare. the playerbase saw how good it was, hyped it up. Komoney saw the obvious demand and bumped it up to secret rare to sell more packs.

This is why I only play Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monster and GX cards. I keep away from all the others. Fusion extra deck only. They are more fun and back and forth.

As someone who used to play before xyz and links the format of speed duels makes much more sense than that of the current main game
