The only reason anyone doesn't have an education now is because they don't want one. There is no segregation and there is free education. If one works hard and learns, there are many more scholarships available to poor kids then there ever has been. Stop looking for excuses.

I have seen many people have to work in very young age (I mean from 6 years old) to help their parents make ends meet. So don’t judge them right away.

I've liked him and many other singers from that time since I was 13. It started at the bus stop to school there were a few older country kids there and me and my peers looked up to them there were about 12 of us at that single bus stop at our most populated time anyway the country kids would play elvis songs and Jonny cash songs and occasionally Jonny b Goode we started buying cigarettes off of them because they had an older brother or something and then we started drinking black coffee. It became a ritual to get there 30 to 45 minutes early and just smoke and hangout. Funny thing is the oldest Dakota wore a brown leather jacket and a cowboy hat boots and jeans this was middle school I started wearing a black leather jacket black or Grey shirt or button up jeans black sneakers since 6th grade after thinking that look was cool and tough from games and the book The outsiders but once the bus stop got populated 4 other people slowly adopted the look 2 of them were my close friends Stephen and alex although we all picked on alex for multiple things but manly his sister walked in on him beating his meat so we all called him ol beater for awile but the fun part was the 2 older Eli and Dakota decided to have us start selling cigarettes and later we sold a little bit of weed and alcohol and eventually e-cigs but in highschool it was hard to make a profit because other kids were solo dealing so not too many people stuck with the ones further down the chain and then the older kids left highschool and they went to do concrete or something and we disbanded our little racket And that's my story on how elvis got me into a middle school drug racketeering operation it was like 2013 or 14 satures of limitations and all that lol

I admit I've never been a big Elvis fan but whenever I hear this song I shed a tear and think of my 10 years as a cop in the worst ghetto neighborhood of NYC, (or maybe the worst in the US) the 73rd Precinct in Brownsville Brooklyn. I still think of all the needless death I saw of the young. I had it lucky as at the end of each night I went back to the comfort of the suburbs of Long Island.
No lie detected. On our family tree one branch was raised there on Mother of Gaston (ave/st). Every leave was bad. But some blew away to more fertile land and are thriving with beautiful buds and stems of their own.
Thank you for serving in a tough neighbourhood and I see videos of neighbourhoods in various cities in US that have terrible drug problems and am very saddened by it all ! More so as I worked in the US for a few years in my early career and loved it and have great time for Americans as I found them to be very friendly and caring people. Warmest regards from Ireland!

I grew up in Chicago and was 9 when this song was getting massive airplay. Even as a child I understood the deep importance of this song as the city had just suffered through the worst riots in Chicago history. I still get choked up hearing it all these years later. One of my favorites. What's really sad is that it's just as true today as it was back in 1969. Nothing has changed much except now I would venture to guess there are a lot more children in the same situation as there was back then which is why this song is still so relevant.

It's up there with "Good Vibrations", "A day in the life" and a couple of other masterpieces of the time. Rock music as an art, as a mind expander, as an explorer of the unknown. I grew up in Chicago and was 9 when this song was getting massive airplay. Even as a child I understood the deep importance of this song as the city had just suffered through the worst riots in Chicago history. I still get choked up hearing it all these years later. Elvis did do allot more then he is ever credited for in helping to break down the race barriers and uniting all of God's children as we should be! ❤

It changed my life - nothing less. It's up there with "Good Vibrations", "A day in the life" and a couple of other masterpieces of the time. Rock music as an art, as a mind expander, as an explorer of the unknown. Cornerstones in my journey of life. And for that I am grateful for the rest of my days! Sounds pompous?
