Those 2000 years of tyranny and oppression didn't happen that long ago, they were the history of the whole global civilization just a few generations ago and EVERYONE must have grandparents who lived during that time and used to tell stories about how it was to live under the oppression of the eldians. Everyone knows that the Empire was a reality because, unlike the people in Paradis, they do remember their history. Of course, this doesn't mean that they grasp the complexity of it all but they know as a fact that the eldian empire was a racial supremacist empire which dominated the world for too much time. Well said. Japan had the reputation now amongst us who don't know of politeness, honor and even cuteness by way of their media/cultural influence. But if you look at some of imperial Japanese actions it was right up there with Nazi Germany in terms of cruelty and evil.
