Made in 1957, this amazing U.S. Navy film showcases the pre-cursors to the SEALs, the UDTs or Underwater Demolition Teams. Underwater Demolition Teams (UDT) conducted beach reconnaissance, cable and net cutting, explosive destruction of underwater obstacles for amphibious landings, limpet mine attacks, submarine operations, and the locating and marking of mines for minesweepers. They also conducted river surveys and foreign military training. While doing this, the UDTs pioneered combat swimming, closed-circuit diving, underwater demolitions, and midget submarine (dry and wet submersible) operations. Many of these capabilities are shown in this film, which likely inspired Hollywood to create ""Sea Hunt"" and might have been fodder for Ian Fleming as well. An especially interesting segment shows UDTs deploying from a submerged GUPPY-class submarine, a strategy they famously employed during the Korean War to raid enemy railways.

My grandfather Bruno Rettig was a frogman in the Korean War, he passed away last year at 89... he was one of the best men I have ever known and I miss him very much.
Bless his soul 🙏
Godspeed sir

My grandfather. A true gentleman and original frog man. Thomas Buddy Rose.
Your in my thought's every day. God Bless America!
Did he serve with a Waggstaff? My grandfather was a squad commander in the UDT, I don't remember his official rank.
What a legacy the SEALs have!!
Father of U.S. Navy SEALs
I am an ex Australian Navy diver and I enjoyed this documentary
Are you Greek;

The América is Best!!!
Salute from Brazil
Obrigado Ruy.
This is incredible! I wish i would've seen this before joining the Army.
Army ranger or go sf
Bruh join army dive school
Man UDT was tough. Enjoyed the film.
Last night I watched the 1951 movie, The Frogmen. A great flick. Very happy tonight to find this documentary in my queue. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it
Saw it tonite. Great movie. Did not realize what a gem I picked up at Thrift Store. 1st movie from Hollywood on combat divers. Going in my safe
I worked with and met several UDT and Seal team members during my Navy time. My God where has the time went
In memory of John Schworm, a true original "real deal" Frog
I was trained to SCUBA by one of these gents in the 70's. Trust me the NAUI training we went through wasn't today's tourist program. Bless them all for the work they did and do as SEALs
Did he come up behind you and shut off your regulator?
Yes. If it wasn’t for navy salvage divers and UDT and their blood and courage the dive tables would never have been as complete
What a JOB! Mind Blowing. Thanks, Periscope. As always.
My grandpa was a navy frogman in WW2. Never was able to get him to talk about the war, only thing he ever said was all he would be dropped off in the middle of the ocean and swim to your target, had to meet up with the ship again after and if you were late getting there they'd assume you were captured and leave you there.
My Dad was one too. No clue what he did, he wouldn't talk much about it either. He had a scar on his arm from a barracuda strike, taught me to swim before I could walk. He said this movie was the closest he'd seen depicting how it really was.
mine was udt for 21 years
Tough as hell ......... The old school UDT in ww2 D-Day dropping the bombs on the barriers on the beach in that frigid water HOO-YAH GOD BLESS
Much respect
Love it!
Interesting training film. Bad ass UDT
BLESSINGS TO ALL BOSS FROGMEN.
Rudy Horak……Navy Frogman…WWII. RIP
The UDT mission was an amphibious support mission, primarily. Thats what the eighties era SEAL recruiting literature claimed. To me, the closest thing to the UDT are the current SEAL SDV TEAMs. I talked to an SDV TEAM guy who was a Dive Motivator at Great Lakes NTC in the early nineties and he was cool. Tried to get me to come up to get interviewed. I declined because I had a left knee and left ankle injury. But I wanted to go talk to him and get interviewed. SDV TEAMs to me are like old school UDT frogmen on steroids, with some REALLY cool and expensive, unique equipment.
One of these UDT guys might be my dad!
My Dad Was The First Seal/Frogman in Team 6
My Father is U.D.T to this day hes 72 works 50 hours a week he served in 4 core has a bronzer start few purple hearts! He's my hero and a true romping stomping running gunning Bush craft craft Frog His buds class was the last to produce and U.D.T men after that they all got there budwiser and a 6 year investment instead of 4 I would say his udt team and buds class graduation number and sub station on but he's determined that's him and his fellow Nam Frogs go silently in the dark and let them seal team get all the admiration and credit
My Daddy, WWII Team 29, 1950s teams 4 and 22.
4:00 Was that dude just casually standing at the bottom without an air tank?
The little tank down there is at pressure. So I assume hes holding his breath and gets back into that little capsule looking thing to stay at pressure.
This is BUDS 1957? Coronado island? Lovely!!!
My uncle is a survivor of the navy frogmen class 😊and he is not someone who you would want hunting you down from the swamp to the jungle they have done something that I could never share with you or anyone else but he might not be in perfect shape but I remember the time he had shared small detail with me the thing is he has Took the oath to never talk about his mission and so even though he doesn’t share much with me it’s very apparent that he’s done stuff that he doesn’t want to share with us and that is okay but I made a mistake once I washed his coffee cup and he said that they would have kicked the shit out of me for doing something like that 😮he shared a real story about someone else who was playing around during training days and they were making it harder on the men in the group because he didn’t want to do what he was told by the instructor so they would make it difficult on the men so one night they woke him up and they beat him down with soap that was in there socks so I know that don’t sound good but he really had it coming why did you expect them to do that just what they did so he not a easy guy to get to know but neither I’m always going to wonder what kind of stuff he was in-charge of doing but I would never push him to tell me what he did he spoke about someone who he was targeting in the jungle and there job was to gather intelligence about the subject and only once they had wore they given permission to delete the target and they didn’t use anything like they did today this video is a demonstration of what they might have done with the story that I have hear that not entirely true just what us The civilians need to know and that is all so if you ever think that are old and they wouldn’t be able to hurt me your lieing two yourself because they have the necessary skills to remove us from existence so don’t mess with them
Stronger minds than the enemy had every goddamn day
Men.... Hell yeah 🇺🇸🇺🇸
I wish I would have went to BUDS when I was in the Navy, I think I could have made it.
Courageous men!
My dad was in UDT-11 in WWII. They surveyed Nagasaki after the a-bomb. Pretty horrible.
The original Mike Nelson’s.
My Grandpa Bishop was a frogmen in Korea.
im thinking of joining the navy seals or the airforce PJs
Deadly Glitch train hard and never quit, you likely wont regret doing either
In New Zealand our frogmen are our Navy Divers. We don't have naval spec op forces, just the SAS.
If you like eating raw lemons
Go navy
If not go marines
Update???
@@zachgeary5088 I was actually talking to some Brit and he told me that a former SAS operator said Delta was better but idk they are both very secretive ik this Marine he said his buddy got selected to go out to Delta and he said that's the last he heard from him so he didn't know if he made it or what
Not sure if they mentioned this unit was part of the CBs (Can Do)
It wasn’t though. They only recruited heavily from wwII CBs, because one of the UDT officers was a CEC (CB) officer, aside from that no real relation.
New York !
Originally the Scouts and Raiders?
Jack Carr sent me here
19:57
Where's Don Shipley at when you need him? Did he approve and certify the guys in this movie to be REAL Frogmen?
U. S. Army Ranger School. You remember having to build a raft to go scout an island? SEALs: Some of us attended and graduated from Ranger School. We told the instuctors that we did not need: "No stinkin Raft" we can swim over there and do it.
Did you get plenty to eat when you went through Ranger School? We ate a lot of AIR PIE.
OYK🇬🇷👊
Seem like some frogmen girls within first minute.
I'm writing a WWII south pacific movie musical
What's up with the Marine at 16:20?
if anyone can help me find more info about my grandfather and some of his missions, his name is donald louis schwab
The fish massacre seems unnecessary. Just some casual slaughter for intermission.
What is the narrator saying at 2:01? So Solly Day?
Stick together-and together they weathered threw hell week, so Sally Day
It is still not illegal to carry a spear gun in public lol
