- Recording's Editor Paul Vnuk compares the Peluso Microphone Lab P-414 to a current production AKG C414 XLS, and a vintage 1970's AKG C414 EB. You can read the full review in the May 2019 issue of RECORDING Magazine.

I've never been much of a fan of the new 414 models, but that vintage 414 and the p-414 are really nice.
Nice shoot out. I liked the P414 on the acoustic hands down. It would be a hard choice on the Vox between the P414 and the EB. The Vintage one had a nicer upper mid in my opinion, but the low mids seemed nicer on the P414. The XLS (of which I own a pair) have a grainy mid to low mid that I don’t care for on critical applications.
It's not a hard choice at all you have no ears and you need to shut up.
Great way to do a shootout. The 70s AKG and Peluso sounded the same to me. The XLS a little brighter. All sounded great
Thanks!
Oh man! If only a vintage brass ring version was in this lineup! My fav is still the EB especially on that guitar but I’m really thinking the P would be my purchase.
PELUSO HI END! ALMOST KILLER! ON U67 AND HERE! Thanks for the vid.
I preferred the peluso on vocals and the EB on guitar with P just behind that
I was surprised to hear how the transient attack of the guitar sounded small with the P414. Even though I dislike the new XLS for its nylon capsule, it seemed to have won the shootout ... at least to my ears. A pity we couldn't audit the EB version with the brass capsule.
Personally I like the older teflon/nylon C414s (as in the late EB, EB P48, and ULS) more than the new ones.
Peluso seems more stable in the low end, but the top end worries me a little. Still I'm almost always adding high end eq - so...could be an option.
Just wanted to point out that, your room sounds great... basically a Nt1 would have worked there ahah
Thanks
I've never heard a Rode I liked no matter how it measured.
Sorry, I could hear no difference, but I love Peluso.
Same here... all things being that close, I'll take the XLS with the added features!
the P less sensible to dynamic
the xls seems to be plate in middle low
the EB very neutral and cultural used to ear!
try too xlII, with eg on 5-10 kHz it's so relief appear
Good tesy
