Nope.. Data is correct. IIT-M is generally ahead of IIT-K in most of the rankings. IIT-K has improved in recent rankings but is still behind IIT-M.
Yeah, few students prefer Kanpur over Madras only because of location and communication issues. You may check the rankings yourself from the Internet (Wikipedia pages have all of them at one place)
