    It may be falling behind now, but the Chase tower was the first building over 1,000 feet anywhere in the world outside of NYC or Chicago when it was built in 1982. It is still the tallest 5 sided building in the world. Wells Fargo plaza is the tallest all glass building in the western hemisphere, and the Williams tower is still one of the tallest buildings anywhere in the world not located in a core central business district. One more thing is that makes Houston's skyline unique it the fact that it has multiple skylines (downtown, uptown (Galleria), Texas medical center, Greenspoint, etc.) This is largely from the fact that it is the most populous city in the US to lack any kind of formal zoning.

    • @chownful
      @chownful 5 лет назад +3

      Some of those are valid points like the multiple skylines and the overall size of the city, but it's not just Houston...the entire USA has fallen behind in everything. It's a pathetic joke. I mean just look at it...now we have to say it is the tallest building...with 5 sides...in the Western hemisphere...I mean when will we just admit that it ain't shit nowadays. The multinational corporations don't invest in America anymore...it's obvious they are all targeting China's middle class which is larger than the entire USA population. 30 years ago...America had 6 or 7 of the top 10 tallest buildings...now I think we have maybe one or two (WTC and Sears/Willis).

      @Cordell Sánchez No, you're wrong.. Houston's core is larger and more dense than Dallas. Houston also has more total high-rise towers than Dallas and fort worth combined. In both height and numbers.. The immediate core of Dallas is more walkable & pedestrian friendly though(uptown Dallas). A quick internet search will tell you this. Also, not having zoning is almost the exact meaning of "building what you want where you want."

    • @shemikajordan1544
      @shemikajordan1544 3 года назад

      @Cordell Sánchez I agree the lack of zoning has a negative impact on Houston to a degree. I wouldn't go as far as gas plants in neighborhoods because most hoods in Houston have HOA's with restrictions. Your claim that the entire city of Dallas is more urbanized than Houston is almost as bad as the false information you typed above about the # of buildings and density. Just because you think it doesn't make it true

      @Amazing Artist houston is the biggest port by capacity and the the second city with most fortune 500 companies headquartered even beating Chicago. Oil isn't the only factor there. It has the biggest medical facility in the world and the space industry has made it's way back which will be growing over the years. I'm not talking down on Dallas but to me they feel the same. The only difference is the weather which I like better and the traffic is easier to deal with. But as far as what it has to offer they're pretty much the same. The only reason why they got rid of six flags was because the ceo thought it was a smart move because they were hoping the sell of the land was going to be worth it. But got fired after they only made half of the expected sell
