Has anyone ever gifted you a cool piece of gear? Comment!!!!
My friend Greg from Decadence guitars, that I never met in person before, gifted me a guitar that I have wanted for years. Then a few years later they gifted me a very high end industrial sewing machine. I make leather guitar straps & other leather items and this machine helped me a lot with this!
I had to drive almost 10 hours round trip to pick up the sewing machine as it weighs as much as a car does. Wasn't able to ship it like the guitar that he did. But this way I finally got to meet him & his wonderful family!
the 2 coolest gifts i got musicinstrument vise are a ludwig snare from 1974 and a Schaller wah wah from the late 70s. But never have i received a gift that special congrats to you ;)
My grandma inherited an accordion from her brother, and gave it to me, since I was the interested in music, playing the piano etc. Not the coolest at the time maybe, but I did get great use of it later. She also helped to get an old acoustic guitar repaired when I was showing interest in playing the guitar, she was a very nice and strong women, raising her children and running a farm alone after my grandfather died early. So in retrospect, the greatest gift was my grandmother ❤
Yeah I got gifted one of the last Jericho fusion 6 baritone in emerald green by a worker in the company and the head guy worked it out with me as a guide to send me a few T shirts.
Also Devin's ocean machine is so freaking cool I want one so bad. Also that guitar is amazing I was hooked when I saw it.
Please if you don't have one get one of Devin's ocean machine reverb and delay pedals. It's so cool
I know exactly who contacted you. He's one of the most genuinely nice and kind people I've ever known. Proud to call him a decades long friend. Congrats to you and well deserved. ❤
Too bad his boss isn’t nice at all, though. 😢
@@Steakfingerwhy do you think devin isnt nice??
@ Devin is nice. The boss to which I refer is the angry metal head who runs Kiesel.
@@Steakfinger oh yeah, not a fan of jeff either. But i still might order one from him someday. Just to give them a shot, ive made many custom builds on the website, but never pulled the trigger
@ I’ve had one Kiesel (a Holdsworth), and it was AMAZING. No beef with the products, just what I’ve heard of Jeff’s antagonism toward customers that seem to have legitimate concerns. There will be an issue once in a blue moon when you make that many guitars. You just have to make it right with humility. It’s the cost of doing business plus it will increase good will toward you and your company/products. Making the occasional flub right is the best advertising out there.
So happy to know that Devin knows Chord Of Orion, when I first stumbled upon your work I remember being "I bet Dev would love this stuff"
I was talking to a friend yesterday and I literally said this same sentence :)
I feel like Devin's love of ambience can be heard in the mixes of even his heaviest tracks.
Devin Townsend rocks! Greatness.
Devin is such an amazing talent. You two having a connection now has made my day!
"I'm okay being speechless, I'd rather just play". The pinnacle of praise right there.
Thanks Devin from Bill's audience.
Wow, Devin Townsend is a legend and his ambient music is great! What a lovely gift!
That's sick... Happy for you, very sweet and heartwarming on a dark January morning. I once played on gear that had belonged to Alan Holdsworth. That was something. Hearing those swells coming from the real deal, and it was me making them. It does something to a person. It's like getting to enter an exclusive world, and for me it still sits in my body, even though it's a couple years back.
That is very cool!!
Well! That is a recognition from professionals! It is an achievement too! And well, I remember you were presenting Mooer's Ocean Machine once. And yes, thanks to Devin too! For the guitar and his music in general! And well, I've never had Devin giving my name to Kiesel or, let's say - Framus... And, that's my fault, indeed. But, I have couple of guitars given to me as an alternative to being disposed. Both are actually still around. And even in use now and then. But, actually I have once wrote to one processor making company about one Internet musician using one of their product and... later on the musician got some more (not sure if it was a result of my message, still..) :)
Devin is a legend and down to earth and just a nice guy
That’s a super crush guitar
Devin is the coolest rock ambient guy around
Hope you’re reading this Devin!!
We should jam sometime. David
I've been a fan of Devin since he was singing for Steve Vai, all through the SYL & DTP years, and he's one of my favorite inspirations as a musician and a human. So, to be blunt, I'd probably shit myself inside-out in disbelief and happiness. 😂
That guitar is absolutely beautiful, and you put it to great use. 💙
Dev is my musical hero since '97. He's the great deal.
That's an awesome guitar! Devin Townsend is a legend. As far as my own stories go, I commented on one of Trogly's videos that I was bummed about having missed out on the chance to get one of the High Performance Les Pauls while Gibson was still making them. Another viewer responded saying, "There's one on Gibson's Demo Shop on Reverb right now." I replied with, "No there isn't...'cause I bought it." 😆 It's been an excellent guitar, and I'm so glad the gentleman in question gave me the heads-up.
As a huge Devin fan, this is awesome to know he loves your channel! Incredible.
That’s so wonderful ❤Devin is such beautiful being as you are too and that he gifted you with this guitar speaks volumes. My story of a guitar is that my musical partner just came up suddenly with a 1988 Charvel Jackson Model 6 in perfect condition. He said he’s so happy to listen to me playing this guitar and that he feels that it finally found its way to me. I’ve t say that I’ve always been a fan of this guitar but never mentioned this to him before. So that was a wonderful surprise and my two cents. I look forward to wonderful ambient guitar music from you an this beautiful gift.
Thanks and what a great story!!
Bill, that is WAY beyond cool!! I’ve been a Devin Townsend fan about as long as I’ve been a fan of yours. He’s an amazing guitarist and a unique creative as well as an awesome human being. 😊
This is beyond awesome. I'm happy for you! You deserve it! I also hope you will be invited to play some chords of Orion on his next album. Both you and Devin are magnificent!
Devin Townsend is freakin Legendary! Congratulations Bill!
I'm a Metalhead since the inception of Metal, But in the last 20 yrs have found i love ambient music of all kinds, Harold Budd, Jeff Pearce, David Helpling and tons more I love Devin too I saw him a few yrs ago on tour with Dream Theater and he was amazing live its a beautiful guitar !
Great, Devin seems like a nice guy from what I've seen of him. Didn't he make the Ocean Machine with Mooer because of his ambient interests? Seems like a version II of that came out late last year as well, maybe I should check that out...
Devin is a Canadian national treasure, and such a wonderful soul!
Wonderful, so happy for you! Devin Townsend you are a good person, appreciate you and your humanity!
I know Devin loves ambient music. This is a really cool crossover.
you deserve it after all the nonsense of late, congrats and keep doing what you do!
Bill you have easily deserved that gift. I'ts clear that your ambient work has helped thousands of people with anxiety etc. Thank you for doing what you do!
Wow, that's just awesome.... Devin is a stellar guy. I hope you guys can make some music together one day.
That's such an incredible gesture...
Well done Devin Townsend, and Kiesel of course 🙏
Devin’s ambient music is incredible. Definitely a change from SYL days…. Congrats on Devin’s gift and a new Kiesel. But more than that, congrats on Devin enjoying your music!
Had a Carvin in 1980, great guitar! I’ve been making my own the last 15 years and am so happy to sell 2 guitars and making the 6 I really wanted. ❤
Making your own guitars is awesome!!
Devin is a legend! It is so cool that he is not only aware of you, also but digs your music! Amazing!
Well deserved Bill for everything you do for all of us. Devin is not only a sweet person but extremely funny and honest. Good luck with the new guitar.
You're so deserving of this excellent instrument. I hope to see it more in upcoming videos! So cool.
That’s fantastic Bill. I’m a long time fan of your channel, and also DTP. Yup, HevyDevy has an ambient side too. What next.? A possible collaboration? Lucky you, enjoy the new instrument. 🎸🎸🎸
Bro! That’s awesome! You and Devin totally have to collab on a grindcore album!
How very cool! Devin is a international treasure.
Funily enough, I subscribed to this channel almost 7 years ago exactly because your sound reminded me of Devin's (and I'm a big fan of his) more embient stuff.
I'm a massive fan of Devin's work.. including his ambient work, and his live shows... not only a great player, but he has an amazing voice..
My good friend had a vintage Ibanez (lawsuit era), I love those guitars, and I told him so. He was primarily a folk/acoustic player, and I tried to bribe him, I begged him, and offered trades, and he declined. Then he called me up because he had a wiring issue, and asked me to fix it for him.
I recommended some practical reconfigurations, etc., and he said go for it, and I did.
When it was finished, I called him up, and he asked me how much, I said I had like $10 in parts, but we could go for lunch.
His response was a series of questions about performance, and tone. When his questions were satisfied he said: Keep it. It's yours. I'm actually crying right now. I love that guitar. It is one of 3 guitars I own (I gave the rest away to good homes). I play it all the time. It has been on hundreds of recordings.
John Harris (Moondoggie) you are the best!
Great Story, Great Instrument! 🎉 The middle position reminds me of Mike Oldfield’s Voyager record..
I have no doubt Devin would Collab with you possibly even play some shows with you! Such a heart warming and humbling story and makes me love both you and him even more! 😁
Well deserved, sir. You have been inspiring so many of us for so long… it makes me so happy to see such a wonderful artist gifted such a wonder tool. That Neo is a very lucky guitar indeed.
Well that's a pretty big shout out, wow! Congratulations! That's a beautiful guitar! Davin and Kiesel are very generous!
I think its time to get your Holdsworth on!
It’s a beautiful little guitar. Very cool of Devy Wevy.
24 frets makes it very easy for me to visualize the fingerboard. Seeing the 2 whole octaves opens everything up.
My guitars appear as log shorts and take years to evolve into their final form.
Holy moly, that's awesome all on counts!
So cool! Maybe eight years ago, we voiced some humbuckers for Devin at Fishman. When he was hanging out, he'd play a lot of ethereal ambient music. He commented "This is what I'm really into these days, ...but the heavy metal is paying the bills."
So cool, that Devin and you made a connection is so awesome. Both of you come across not just as wonderful musicians, but as kind, considerate, and compassionate human beings!
This is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time, congratulations Devin is awesome I've been a fan since he was in Steve Vai's band but I had no idea about the ambient music as well so I will definitely be listening to it
I’m glad the algorithm pushed this to me after watching a random devin video. Somehow the whole ambient side project flew past me, and I have loved ambient for some while now and even dabbled in making some myself.
Glad I found your channel.
Really needed a reminder to slow down during uni stress season.
You deserve it, you are a good dude. Congratulations
Good ol Devy. Bless that man.
Just really, really nice, the whole thing! Such lovely music!
So cool! Devin has amazing musical talent! And I love how you share your experience and music! It's one channel that I go to for inspiration! What a blessing!
That is awesome, congratulations on getting such an incredible gift. Your channel has always been an inspiration
Oh my gosh, yes, Devin is totally devoted to ambience from his earliest beginnings. Pick any album and you'll hear layers of ambience behind the heavier stuff. Apart from his specific ambient production (The Hummer, Ghost...) there's nothing by him that isn't made by layers of arrangements on top of delayed loops of tones and actual sampled sounds of nature or human activity.
And so...well deserved!!! Because this channel is superb and your hosting sweet. Thanks for doing what you do and sharing with us!
This is absolutely insane. Dev is one of my all time favorites. Everything from his heavy music to his ambient music is stellar
Always been a big fan of Devy! This is really awesome for you! He's been doing ambient side projects for a while! You have to listen his Ghost album if you haven't! Pure bliss.
Well done mate. Recognition of your craft and hard work on this channel over the years.
Very cool my friend. Very cool.
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy, Bill. Glad for you.
This is so cool! I like Devin Townsend a lot and have watched many videos of him talking and I feel like he's a very nice person. It makes me happy that he likes you too. I had a guitar given by my dad, but it got stolen. Then a dear friend gave me a guitar and some years later I gave it to my cousin. Later my girlfriend now wife bought me one for a birthday. These are all precious memories and it's always nice and wholesome when someone supports your passion. :)
Those are pretty special and neat circumstances! Congrats!
Thank you for including the sample of the switch positions without ducking the volume on the note attack. It would have been cool to hear a biiit more of this aspect of the instrument's voice, but I get that the swell is a big component of your personal style.
I'll be keeping an eye out for these guitars, even though we don't see kiesel in Canada very often. I'm definitely curiousw how they might fare in a jazz context.
Devin is such a cool dude. One of his favourite artists is Anya. The sound you produce with this guitar at the beginning of your video, sounds exactly like the sound of his album, Empath. If you haven't seen his Empath Documentary, I strongly suggest that you watch it. Take care and greetings from Ottawa, Canada.
When the GOAT delivers you a fiddle...
All you can do is say
"Thank you."
So...
Can we be expecting a 2-hour Podcast conversation between you and Devy?
🙏🏻
I am so hoping to get a convo lined up!!
Maybe 2-hour ambient jam?
@@chordsoforionYes please! Having you on the Devin Townsend Podcast would be absolutely amazing! I would drop everything and instantly listen to it if it were to happen! No, it will happen!
Please find a way to make your schedules line up so that the world can hear that conversation, we all could use such an amazing conversation between two of the nicest, most talented, and down to earth musicians ever to grace this crazy world that we live in! 🤞
This is extremely cool! Looking forward to hearing what you create with this new guitar!
Yes. I've got very generous guitar friends who have gifted me pedals over the years. I once got an Eventide H9 in the mail, unannounced! I use it all the time - such a good tool.
That looks like a very light, comfortable guitar
You deserve it. Happy for you..
Just the fact DT knows/and digs, you're stuff... awesome.
That's incredibly cool of them and good for you, Bill. Looking forward to hearing what you create with it!
Love this man! What a tremendous scenario. Subscribed😊
So cool!
Man - this means that your videos are really watched by everybody! David is an awesome guy! I really love his album with Steve Vai.
Well done sir! You conquered those pesky adversities and have received a beautiful guitar!
Awesome isn't a strong enough word to describe this. Congrats!
Sweet!
Thank you.
gorgeous wood and shape
How cool! DT is a crazy creative guy. (As are YOU!) Beautiful instrument too. I’ve never “inherited” any gear. I’ve met a couple of guys from a well known band and had the chance to know them - that was interesting. I discovered that - offstage - they were normal people. Given that Devin listened to your work and appreciated it enough to gift you a guitar, I’m guessing he’s a normal guy too ;-) Congratulations, enjoy the new axe and keep making great music. Love your channel, your music and your humility. 👍
My unexpected gift story is when I came home from hight school (many years ago) and there was a piano sitting in the living room that my parents had bought me. Keyboards are still my main instrument, I play many others now and have kept up my music, now composing and producing my own at the age 62. Great story ChordsofOrion, your playing of the guitar, tells the story of thankyou.
Supportive parents are so amazing!!
That's cool! Looks and sounds a really nice guitar.
My reaction to receiving a DM like that would be "I don't have a RUclips channel about ambient music, you have the wrong guy". Great to see you receiving recognition though!
Wow love your music and that guitar sounds Amazing!
Devin is so cool
Well deserved!👍
Wow! A beautiful gesture. A beautiful guitar.
Ur fenomenal guitarist and composer!!!
So very cool! I Kiesel guitars are great, I also own one, and Devin is also a great dude! Congrats!!
I've just put on Space Oyster from Devin's Dreampeace series in honour of this awesome story. Dev is a thoroughly decent dude
What a special gift from a special dude.
Congrats , you have had a bit of a bumpy ride lately but Epidemic came round, now Devin drops a guitar in your lap. Very happy for you.
Actually I was watching Devin's ambient stuff way before I found your channel!
The triple single combo in the bridge is seldom seen. The most notable example I can think of is the 1976 Ibanez 2663TC, sometimes referred to as the Steve Miller guitar. That guitar evolved into the short-lived 1978 Ibanez IC210/Greco M-800. Beautiful gift, so nice of Devin, and a very classy and respectful approach to offer the guitar.
Congratulations! Some of what you were playing reminds me of a CCM band from the 90's, Iona. I think that guitar is going to take you places!
Interesting that you call them a CCM band. I have always thought of them as one of the better Celtic style prog-rock bands out there. I especially love their live album "Heaven's Bright Sun".
Right. They had a few videos that played on Christian video shows. I don't know if I ever heard them on Christian radio. The tracks are too long for commercial radio. As with ambient music, Iona's extended soundscapes don't end until the message has been delivered.
What an awesome blessing! Congratulations, brother!
You, sir, are the Bob Ross of guitar and guitar sounds. Thank you for the inspiration!
So cool, Bill! Congrats! It’s beautiful! ✌️😌🎸
I've been playing guitar since 1974 and electric since 1977 and I've never gotten a guitar free from anyone or any company. Never stopped me from enjoying playing!
This is beyond extraordinary. Congrats man! What a score, well deserved ❤
