Love the intro, the edits and the music ❤️ I'll be adding to your views a lot of the next few months as I prepare for assessment!

Excellent tips. In the lead up to assessment we were going out in atrocious conditions so that we were "used" to how we would perform. As it turned out my assessment was in atrocious conditions which didnt phase us nearly as much as it could because we practised in these conditions. Great tips on relocating when not leading - they work but you need to stay focused 100% of the.
Really enjoying the content Mr JB Mountain Skills - passed a few evenings watching you different vids.

      Glad you've enjoyed them :)

A tip for practicing micro navigation. Orienteering, lots of practice at the tactics and techniques of low vis navigation under the pressure of needing to do so quickly and without errors.

Sound advice on all fronts. Verbalising your plan also helps you to think it through and spot any errors...hopefully.😄

This is great.. Verbalising your plan to others also gives them confidence in you, your skills and the situation, it also allows a chance for someone to say 'hold on, what about
      ....'
      👍

Verbalising can be very useful, on assessment though it's not always appropriate as we need to see you being able to do it all independently and we don't always want the others knowing where we are going.
That said, on some legs (normally day time) I do ask people to brief the rest of the group etc :)

I have found that writing down the plan on a small note book helps and has a calming influence.
Before , I’d formulate a plan set off and then forget ( yeah I’m getting on a bit) how long in would take or not properly tick off features.

I used to be really practiced and comfortable with night nav but I haven't done any in years. I'm planning to be out on Thursday night in the dark (forecast bad weather) in an area notoriously difficult for navigation, so watching this video to revise. I'd better go and practice some pacing!! Thanks for the video. Edit: it's going to be somewhere in Gwynedd, I'll be out of Wales before Fri 6pm lockdown. Not saying exactly where in case I get tarred and feathered :(

    I didn't know you were a RUclips star! 😂
Good tips! I would add to practice lots of pacing on very uneven terrain... That nearly got me in my assessment!

Cheerzz Jez, Would you say pacing over timing for night nav? If you could only use one option!

Night Nav sucks. Especially in the Army on course...you have your NVG's..carrying 30-35kg of weight. cant use your head torch. No ambient moonlight, cant see shite. Walking into spiders, falling into creeks, stacking into a ant mound, lying on the ground and contemplating life...cant find your Check Points...yeh great times.

You got to use NVG’s on night navs…lucky b***ard😂
