- Per request, here is Siskel & Ebert's Holiday Gift Guide from November 1987. The infamous VideoArt game gets reviewed, among other classic stuff.
The very beginning is missing.

"Those are the worst eyebrows I have ever seen"... "Well, check out a mirror sometime, LOL".
They were so smart and cool. I miss them.
Laughed so hard when Gene pushed the tray in. OMG he would be the type
Good stuff
LJN's reign of terror is boundless
Of course you would be a Siskel and Ebert fan. I got your book
I miss these guys so much, and I miss the 80s as well
Man, AVGN wasn't exaggerating.
VideoArt didn't even function at the time.
It's easy to forget that Ebert was so much shorter than Siskel. It's rare to see them standing next to eachother. Usually they were sitting down in the balcony.
NotSnarl By today’s standards, Ebert does not even “read” as fat. Regardless, I really hate personal remarks about public or private individuals. I’d rather focus on the immense talent, professionalism, and joie de vivre each man brought to us all. I miss them so much!
23:28 Siskel and Ebert Review the NES and Sega Master System
$1,200 for Super VHS? Holy shit lol. We've got 4K UHD now XD
I’m going out right now to buy my SuperVHS! Don’t want to be obsolete.
trying to imagine 80s kids being riveted by "Winky Dink".
Definitely was not I, most 80s kids probably didn't care very about 50s and 60s culture.
id rather play with my winky
I love it but I'm 66 years old
40:03 - I don't know if I would be scared or peeing myself if I were a kid seeing that. I'm cacking myself now....
Video Art really was the worst shit. It gave you intricate pictures to color, only to taunt you, because you could only draw straight lines with the most unresponsive controller ever.
Siskel & Ebert were equally frustrated with Video Art as AVGN was.
Never _even heard_ of 'Super VHS' - and I lived through the '80s!
28:15 I know what Tarrantino got that year
Not Barbie deliver World Peace with a rock concert in outer space is absolutely ridiculous, you're right there, Gene
"he's a little bear...and a little bore"
That's exactly what I thought of Teddy Ruxpin when I was a kid.
40:15 Lady Lovelylock: I'm heading towards to my friends for a picnic, would you like to join us?
Kid: Thank You lady, but I have to get home for dinner!
Gene: That's great, I'm too busy to enter the Adventure, I got to get home!
That's why I've got the tape so I can go home, right?!? 40:22
YES! =)
Lady Lovely Locks was pre- Swan Princess.
It's interesting that Shokus has apparently survived to the present day, what with the internet, piracy and people posting all sorts of old tapes online.
Thanks for this!
This is hilarious
AVGN brought me here.
27:56 Baby Songs has been my childhood favorite!
Don’t plan a chicken dish when chicken isn’t in season.
Duck season...Wabbit season...Chicken season...
Back then I got the Deluxe Home Version of the "Wheel of Fortune" Game back in December 1987
I had that game.
Oh my God I have got to get me one of those super VHS and laser vision machines! The future is here people
31:50 And the idea Barbie delivering world peace rock concert from outer space is absolutely ridiculous! - Gene Siskel
That pixel vision camera is weird! I've heard of computers using audio cassette tapes for games and programs but using a cassette tape for a video camera? That's pretty impressive
for it's time, it was definitely a great gimmick, and to this day, people still use the PXL-2000 for Independent videos.
8-Bit Guy reviewed it.
Anyone else get the sinking feeling that they knew this VideoArt thing wouldn't last?
I actually saw this episode before AVGN reviewed it.
Even LJN isn't safe from the wrath of Siskel and Ebert.
Don't push it Gene!
Avgn needs to see this.
He already did. Their critique of the LJN VideoArt console was mentioned as part of a DVD extra.
P.S.: In Fact Lady Lovely Locks was much Miles better than The Problem Solverz and Teen Titans GO! combined.
this is awesome
23:30 - Siskel and Ebert play NES
They’re sitting really close to one another.
I swear Gene almost called Lady Lovelilocks a fucking ripoff. 🤣
lol he was genuinely pissed he couldnt go on the adventure
Love these guys, but Ebert's hair looks like a really cheap toupee even though it's his actual hair.
It’s incredible! How/why did they make his real hair look like a Halloween wig? Ahaha
Never seemed to brush and/or wash it lol
Radio days great movie by Woody Allen !!!
Anyone know the name of the baseball player Gene calls Roger? Sounds like he's saying Wance Williger?
Wayne Terwilliger
17:32 well gee roger not EVERYONE could afford them
29.95 for godfather what deal!
Down from $60! With inflation thats at least $120 for a single movie. What the hell was going on back then?
Sega Master System.
Lol how they are saying that video game consoles were expensive but what about thouse vhs plyers and casettes
try to explain streaming like it just came out in the 1979 and the internets
$59.95 for a VHS tape?
***** They use to be way more than that. They use to be over $100 for new releases.
even the VHS of the South Park movie was that much while the dvd was only like $30
I remember being a kid and convincing my parents to buy Batman on DVD for like £20, over here in the UK. That would have been like '99 I think.
Yep, Back then tapes were sold to rental stores at high prices before studios realized they could sell them to consumers for less and make bigger profit.
Bring back Beemans!
I like to see them constantly shitting on each other how is this not a skit, in SNL,(not my generation)
Do not get Lady Lovely Locks
avgn
Yup!
man i was born in 85, all this stuff looked so archaic, super vhs, winky dink (yuck)
Roger always had the worst haircuts...
He's OG nerdy guy to the bone, there must be a specialist barber somewhere...
