Wait a minute, wait a minute--did you err? You did: only a word or two about...Groo? Why...why you *mendicant*! Simply one of the consistently most funny and sometimes even pertinent comics around! Alright, proceed--. I'm not so much a fan of Humanoids comics; have some Moebius, but for some reason never have looked beyond them. What are some of the sources from where you get the comics on sale? For instance the Planetary Omnibus! Is it from sellers in Amazon and Flipkart or are there other sites you go to as well? I have often found Ebay to be rather expensive in most of the comics I look for!
Primarily Amazon, Flipkart and Bookswagon. Every now and then I'lll try ebay but the shipping is killer and all international ordering runs the risk of attracting huge duties. Sometimes I get to travel so load up then, and otherwise I beg friends and colleagues to get me some books when they travel 😋
@@ftloc Ha ha! I do the same with my friends, especially more with games since those are mighty costly on amazon.in ! Thanks for suggesting Bookswagon though! I thought it was an Amazon seller only! Some comics and RPGs are bit cheaper there than the other websites!
The Superior Foes of Spiderman was probably the comic which made me laugh the most. Loved the humour they went for. I found it very Ocean's 11-ish (which is right up my alley) :) Agree with you on the Casanova bit. I tried to get into it, but the writing is too jarring. Coming to Planetary - I suspect it must have been a brilliant comic book when it came out. It's a comicbook-esque commentary on comicbooks (unlike Watchmen which views comic books through a socio-political lens). So for people who have been with comics through the ages, would be able to understand the commentary and thus appreciate the book, a lot better! (Long story short - I didn't enjoy it a lot. Plus the art is very off-putting, for my tastes) Looking forward to shelf 4 (or 5?)! :)
Oh yes, I could appreciate what Superior Foes was doing - it just didn't click for me; comedy is tough, I guess. I love it when a book can make me laugh out loud. And let's see what I think of Planetary!
@@ftloc Would love to hear your thoughts on Planetary :) Also I might pick up those Saga hardcovers (despite my reservations against the basic premise of the series as such - a mish-mash of romance and space drama is also tough I guess!) But damn, those editions look really good. Quick question - Do you have the V for Vendetta Absolute Edition? (If not what are your general thoughts on that particular version?) Been wondering if I should pull the trigger on that one, and hence my query
I know Saga has its critics, and I've heard some good arguments, but a few tonal missteps aside, it works for me. And the deluxe editions are the same price as the component TPBs, so the upgrade is an easy choice for someone like me. Absolute V: the short answer is yes, I recently acquired it, and I'd say go for it, especially if you're getting a deal on it and you're a fan of the work. Unlike some other Moore books, V doesn't have an English language hardcover that is easy to get, so just that tips the scales. For the details, I'll probably have to make a video! 😊
No, I think the one time I looked at Instock Trades from here in India the shipping was just killer. Much of what you see on these shelves are from Amazon India, Infibeam, Flipkart and some other Indian online stores (now defunct) that also had pretty decent used or second-hand listings. If I get lucky enough to travel, I load up my luggage with comics, and am always seeing if someone can cart a book or two over for me if they're going abroad. Other than that, I sometimes buy or trade with other readers online here in India, through Facebook groups and things like that.
@Vysakh K B Right now everything is locked down, but otherwise Bookswagon dot com is not bad. But those are all new books at new prices. For the used/second hand, you'll have to try brick-and-mortar stores. On Facebook check out the 'Comics Club!' and 'The Comics Club Store' where people post buy and sell notices from their collections. There are rules to follow and you need to answer some questions to get in, but the store often has some good books up for cheaper than they cost in stores. Good luck!

They really are, aren't they? There aren't too many options so I wait for discounts or sales, otherwise I just save up for stuff I really want! Amazon is my regular place now that Infibeam is no longer selling books, but I also buy a lot of used books, both from Amazon sellers as well as fellow collectors and readers online through Facebook clubs etc. Comics in general are more expensive than prose books so I have to carefully select what I want and what I am willing to pay. First of all I think about what they are in the USA (check Amazon US prices) for the range it should be. So if something is a 30 dollar book in the USA, tat should be about 2,100 in India. Now, discounted in the USA maybe one can get it for 20 dollars, which would be 1,400 in India. So If I found it in the 1,400-1,600 range, I would be happy with the price. If it was more than 2,100, I would be reluctant to get it unless I really wanted it. It's a marathon, not a sprint, so even one book at a time will add up if you keep reading consistently!
