We sure didn't expect for these guys to move on board for the day! Have you ever had a similar encounter in your boat/van/house? Its funny watching the footage back, but in the moment, we didn't know what to do! So, Zach resorted to calling them out, and i was on herding duty. You couldn't make it up 😂
Hey guys, I am a bee keeper (amateur, backyard keeper) The bees were swarming and they love a nice entrance like your hole in the hull. If you had just sat back and let them 'move in' they'd have likely setup shop and stayed. But, in the future, if you have this happen again, don't be afraid of them. They're very harmless when swarming because the ladies know that if they sting, they'll die. They don't really have a reason to sting at this point. Bees only sting to defend the colony, and when they're looking for a new home they won't be defensive. Yes, it is very intimidating! Here is another thing to keep in mind: if you get stung, that stinger stuck in your skin is a marker for other bees to know where to sting. So, if you ever run into bees and you get stung, GTFO! RUN! They aim to sting at dark things, like eyes or big dark sunglasses. They know the face is the fastest way to scare off an 'invading' creature, they even go after the CO2 in your breath as a homing signal. Now all that said, bees are pretty chill if left along. But since you're down south, if you see a colony, do not disturb them! Maybe back in the UK you can observe, but africanized bees are very defensive and you'll get hundreds of stings if a colony gets upset, they'll chase you for 1/4 mile. So yeah, happy sailing, glad the bees didn't move in.
As a beekeeper, the honeybees looked like they were hoping to make your home into their hive lol. They will move into literally anywhere that gives them good shelter and protection. So it’s like a complement really. Love you guy’s channel. Keep it up!
Put your seeds in a large jar. Add water and pour off daily with some cloth or mesh over the opening. They will stay damp and then sprout. If you keep them in the dark they will be like Chinese bean sprouts. Give them sunlight and they will be green. Your choice. You're from the UK so I am surprised you haven't come across growing mustard and cress at home. All the best.
Totally brilliant. You two manage to film the grotty side of life aboard better than anyone else and all without a moments self pity. Grubbing around in the billges in 35 degrees is soooo not fun. Your positivity is infectious and I STILL can't get over how far you've got from a standing start in Plymouth. Bloody doing it 😂
Hi guys!! What an absolutely delightful episode ! Becky I love your story telling talents, you are a joy to watch and fun to listen to. You put a smile on my face 😊. Zack I enjoy watching the boat projects you two tackle. We all learn something by watching others come up with their answers to various boat problems and by adding that information, it's a good way to grow the channel. I would be a miss if I didn't say what an absolute pleasure it was meeting the both of you in Annapolis this weekend. You are a charming and wonderful couple to speak with and it puts a smile in my heart every time I think about it. I'm happy I became a Patron and I'm looking forward to joining you two on your epic journey. Take care and be well.
Aw, thanks SO much. It was so lovely to meet you and it means the world for you to now be following along with our adventure. Hopefully we will be back next year and you can make it to our Patron meetup too 😊
Critters! They'll always be the bane of any DIY'ers. It's like they have an Irritating Squad who search out any intrusive point and then call the "swarm" to enjoy possible treats or dwellings. You did well to catch them when they arrived and hadn't made nests in inaccessible spots. Thanks for sharing.
Becka, Place your paper towel and seeds in a plastic Ziploc bag. After dampening the seeds and paper towel, seal the Ziploc bag; the moisture will stay inside and the seeds/sprouts shouldn't dry out. Cheers! Blue Skies. Faithfully, James
If you take your paper napkins Soak it in water and put it in a large Mason jar then put the seeds on top of your soaked paper napkins and then put a few holes in the lid of the mason jar. Put the lid on and then put it in a dark spot. It will start to Germinate in three to five days. Glad to see Ya'll are back on the boat 🚢. And can't wait to see the next video. So until next time ⏲️, Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii! 🌋
As with any important job... Preparation; Preparation; Preparation.... and then even more. Hopefully, after all that work, you won't now sink. Great to see you back on Teulu and I'm looking forward to what you've got in store for us all next Monday. As for the Bees, the quickest way to get rid of them from inside, is to get a small box, cut a small hole in it and put some pieces of very ripe fruit in there. They'll go in and start gorging themselves. When most of them are in the box, move it outside, away from your doors and windows. It's a trick I've used several times in my home, with considerable success. Russ. UK.
Wow that was an advert heavy watch, 9 ads! Anyway, jury’s out on tightening after curing but as long as the external fitting didn’t move then no reason it won’t be ok. So funny hearing the commotion over the bees, still all good in the end. That island looked amazing. Take care peeps. Andy UK
Those bees moved in quick! Love watching these boat working videos, nice to see Teulu getting an upgrade. Thanks! Stay safe and happy out there both! 🙏
OMG Teulu TARDIS is invaded by alien killer wasps! How will Amy and Rory fight them off???? Boatwork sux!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You both look great- sorry you didn't win the Instagram Award- that dude that won must have rigged it. Long time no chat..having a spot of depression, but you guys cheer me right up. Hugs!
Grow the sprouts inside glass jar with screw lid; keep moist but keep in a low to floor cupboard as hot air rises. Keeping it in a dark place it will not go green , and remain nice to eat. Rinse sprouts before consumption. I am enjoying the adventure you both started. Safe sailing. Everett
I’ve used Trudesign in two different boats in the past ten years or so. Excellent product. NOT plastic, but composite. World of difference. Robust and durable. But they *do* take more space! Happy vlog … thanks guys, welcome back onboard! 🎉
You could put your sprouts in a plastic bag (freezer bag) that you can open up and close with an elastic band after spraying. So when you spray them with water and that water evaporates because of the heat it creates a humid environment inside the plastic bag and the water is still trapped around not letting the seeds dry out. :)
The both of you are so freaking adorable I can’t freaking stand it! Great video! I hope all that goo you have spread around does the trick. Continued good health is my hope for the both of you. ❤
Hey beautiful people, firstly congratulations on being a finalist at the Cruisers awards, dam u didn't win, but I was so excited, I kept say and the winner is Teulu Tribe, next time for sure. Great attention to detail Zach, thru hulls are so very important to get right. Oh and what's with the Mullet hair cut?🤣😁 getting a bit thin on top mate. Gotta say u look good all sweaty and grubby. Take ur time with ur boat fixes and enjoy the fruits of ur gorgeous boat. 👍🌈🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟😎
Beclily jamesca is so awesome . She remind me of lily james when she go off into one of her tirades. I also hear the song yesterday when she talked about her boat.
Ah yes, back to boat life! A moment of silence for the poor departed sprouts. 🙏 I just watched some clips of the Annapolis Boat Show and the Young Cruiser awards. I saw a bunch of people your age getting together, sharing stories and places they've seen. I know you'll run into them on your journey. People like you, living an excitingly different life. Stay safe. ❤🙏
When we lived in Europe, I stored our ski boat on the hard under a massive layered tarpaulin. Twice I returned in the summer to find an entire hive of wasps living in the boat - the work to get her running started with their exit, which took well more than a day each time. I also put rat poison pellets in the bilge. She was not run for a couple of years at that point, so to get it started, I pulled the spark plugs and turned the motor over to let the oil pump get oil over everything and to visually inspect the condition of things inside. Lo and behold, green rat poison pellets came squirting out of the number 1 cylinder through the open spark plug hole. That had me scratching my head until I figured out that that cylinder was the first one accessible to the exhaust. The mice, who store their food elsewhere, had taken the poison pellets, run up the exhaust from the transom all along the inside of the exhaust to the front where the exhaust valve was apparently sitting open for that cylinder. They had managed to get into the cylinder and store the pellets. This was a 305 cu in. V-8 motor, the valves are large. Long story short, once lubricated, emptied of pellets, and everything buttoned up, the motor ran fine and to specification.
Wow, those bees were amazing, makes one wonder what they were thinking. Great job on all those through hulls. As an armchair wanna be, it sure must add some confidence on your passages. Looking forward to next weeks video already! Fair winds.
Fabulous job's on the boat. It is a never ending thing fixing and replacing items on the boat for you boat people. Looking forward to more awesome video's
Actually been looking forward to coming home from work all day to be able to watch another great episode. A chill on sofa watching you guys after a Mondays work should be the way forward from now on 🎉
Awesome vid! Glad you made it back safe to the yard. If you ever get bees/wasp? Use a Hoover wet dry and vacuum them. You can release them later. Stay safe!
Every Monday treat for us all. Zack, you never reviewed your Remigo! I ve been waiting for that one to pop up. You are true professionals now. Amazing in the time you’ve had. Hoping you shall win the award thingy. You know what I mean (As Beka would say) Keep up the good work.
Lovely Video. it looked like so much fun... Live and learn on the seacock size hey. I guess the key question is, where was Mads when you needed him? also great use of the term ""soiree" to describe Becca's bike to the store. Close runner up the phrase "I'm just gonna do the old wipe and swish"" for the epoxy. You guys have such a great attitude that even the wasps want to hang out with you.
When using a hand file you should only push it in one direction. When you use the file back and forth it dulls the file. They are designed to be used in only one direction and that direction is pushing the hand file over something.
I had the same or similar happen to me Seattle in the early 80’s. I had reefed out most of the deck seams in an old wooden tug boat, then used 5200 as a seam compound. Before I knew what was happening the boat was being swarmed by bees. As I have related this story over the years it seemed like no one believed me. I felt sorry for the number of bees which got stuck in the 5200 that day. Also as time went by we learned that 5200 was not the thing to use as a seam compound but none of us knew that in 1980.
Best sprout advice above is damp paper towel below and above. Check and moisten couple times daily. They dont need to be out in sunlight. Some rigs you can purchase and a few diy that ive seen consist of a small stack of nesting, screen bottom trays and get a steady supply out if the bottom tray as you keep adding a tray to the top of the stack. Thru hulls, valves and associated bits are some of the fussiest and most time consuming jobs. Plot all of it out beforehand. Wont bore you with a thousand details, but you want to get it perfect the first time... every aspect of it. Glue -- stay with epoxy for everything. Stay away from polyester. Yr in it for the long haul. Yr good with resperators, but with every project, get the details done, bits of tape n such, then put gloves on. Both hands. For everything. Been at this for decades out in the field, these toxins need to be taken seriously. Especially if, like me, you are often living n working without running water or a shower. Work clean, dont work dirty. If yr not gonna use proprietary epoxy pumps, you can do ok with cheap plastic measuring spoons. Acetone is ok, just dont wipe crap off yr skin with it... yr driving it into yr boodstream. Even out in the world, you can usually find denatured alcohol, which is a decent cleaner for most of the bad toxics of boatwork, specifically a thinner/solvent for epoxy, n much less toxic/volatile to carry around. Rags for any of these should be immediately soaked in water, even if you want to use them again. Dont forget little glue brushes for getting in bolt holes n such with solvent or epoxy. You guys are fascinating n encouraging. Keep going.
Tender loving care to Teulu. Happy to see the quality work of you both. Soon back on the water for more adventures when the maintenance is done. it will be nice to see. Winter is setting in here in Canada. Although I love winter the sunny skies and your faces down there does make it more bearable. Cheers.
Gotta give her some much needed attention after a busy year of sailing her from Europe to the Caribbean! I bet its getting a bit colder in Canada now, one day we would love to sail there.
As a older person on my own adventure as a full time “gray nomad” in Australia it’s something I have to be aware of all the time and Yes I got a infestation once by Ants it only takes one “scout” ant to find a food source and before you know it you have a cupboard full of ants, then it a full day of emptying everything out, then surfaces spray and of course there’s always one that you miss, know I put the legs of the steps into yogurt containers with water in, a fun fact in Australian, so far 12000 different ant have been cataloged and a estimated another 12000 yet to be identified, now before stopping anywhere I walk around and check the ground and in the trees ( bat poo is the worst to clean off ) people say in Queensland everything wants to either bite you or sting you, not that bad it just a matter of being aware, just like you when you arrive at a new morning you have to do your due diligence for safety.
Nice DIY jobs on the beautiful island of Aruba.❤ Clearly a young pregnant flown out bee queen liked your Teula too as her new home after choosing which of the many holes to enter..😅. I saw on other boat vlog-accounts that they also sealed the passages where the plywood wood layer is visible with epoxy before connecting the new seacocks. Assume you guys know and applied that too. Looks really super nice again.🎉 On the contrary, I decided to seal off as many passages as possible asap, like for the head/toilet. Then I sleep more peacefully....😅😊 Looking forward to your next boat jobs. Bravely forward and sail by the wind of today (or at least try)..❤
Use a mason jar for ur sprouts.must rinse 2x daily to avoid mold.we do it in FL summer. You can do it. I put them in a few inches of water until they start then begin rinsing and get a screen lid put upside down. You got this
I’m surprised the sea cocks aren’t NPT threads. I’m sure you received some sort of instruction on sealing those threads, reflected on what you showed us in the video. If I ever have to replace sea cocks on our boat, I will also be using a similar design due to the lack of corrosion. I just hate the idea of relying on a liquid sealant to seal straight threads. Generally there is a flange and gasket / o-ring that provides the seal on straight thread connections.
Saw “Cecelia” on the hard. That’s the old boat that belonged to #SailAway YT channel, before they sold it and bought an old Privilege 482 catamaran, "Ophelia" last year. They are now back in Grenada continuing their refit.
@@TeuluTribe I meant to say summer, and was thinking about winter, because it was 29 degrees this morning 🥶 I'm hauling out for the winter, then heading for the Gulf of Mexico next spring. I would love to be the tough guy who braves the cold winter in my lil 27ft sloop, but alas.....I'm spending the winter working in a kitchen where it's warm and I get a free meal lol
I don't like to be negative but... When using sealant on threads you need to fill the threads not just lay sealant on top as it won't make a perfect seal, just apply to thread and use finger to fill each groove. Remember your not just doing it, your bloody doing it.
At the rate I break and lose sunglasses, that price point is just not economically friendly. I'd be willing to pay 50USD for a pair of heron ocean but not more. Anything over that you just paying for brand name.
We have a colvic Victor 40 from 1986 and the hull is much thicker than yours! I guess because they are hand layed they can be different thickness yours looks like 8 10mm with a wood backing plate, ours is 30mm all fiber no core and no backing plates. I find it interesting same boat same model very different construction. Just thought it might be useful for a potential buyer of a colvic or something to know this, and check the hull thickness. Cheers
Our Colvic is around three inches for the keel, two inches up to the water line, and one inch to the top, just like the others we have met. She's a solid boat, maybe the way its filmed makes it look different
@@TeuluTribe There might be some kind of measurement conversion error going on. 2 inches = 50mm 😂 you can clearly see on the video that the fiber part of the hull is about a Zach finger. And we hope he doesn't have 50mm fingers 😅
@@reversingentropy oh haha you are right, worryingly, that was what our survey said it was haha. Although, im sure you have the same thing but different parts of the boat are different thicknesses. Our bow is almost double our stern, our lazerette is pretty thin- and we have spoken to three other Colvic Owners who have the same thing so must be quite individual.
@@TeuluTribe😂 There is no doubt these are super super sturdy vessels, they can take everything we throw at them and they will probably Outlast us if you feel like watching us save one from a slow death at the yard check out our videos ruclips.net/video/UtkSevq7a1k/видео.html I haven't edited most of the footage from the renovation yet, but is very fun to see the differences between victor 40s we se you working in the bilge and try to guess which part of the boat it is lol
Was that right to seal the seacocks with the Sika !!??? I don’t know it but for threads normally you use other stuff or !? Just a question before the sinks
not sure about your skin fitting process. the pros here where true design are made in nz fitted mine with one guy outside holding the skin fitting while another inside tightened nut up on the sika flex. done. waiting till it skins up and re tightning will break the seal ? true design are regarded as the best.

Keep going.
I got a buzz watching this 😀 Thanks for another great vlog
Haha, see what you did there 😆 glad you enjoyed it!
You are so brave stuffing those wasp holes 😅 I would have run a mile!
Great show...
Hey guys, your Vallon link does not seem to work. Loving that you both are living your best lives possible.
You can easily use alcohol for cleaning for epoxi. If you use acetone please use nitril gloves. The ones you used do not project the skin at all.
Another great vlog. You must be back in the water by now. Looking forward to more sailing vlogs. 😊
Fabulous content. Have been watching your journey from the start. Keep dreaming keep living as life is far too short
Thanks Roger😁
"The ole Wipe and Switch" We know what youre doing.
I love how thorough & perfect your work is. Great job guys!
I think so! We did look for her but they all looked the same 😆 yep, we applied sealant as well as the gasket. Thanks for watching!
@@TeuluTribe Maybe starting a beehive on the boat for honey now that the plants weren't doing it ;-)
Use a mason jar for ur sprouts.must rinse 2x daily to avoid mold.we do it in FL summer. You can do it. I put them in a few inches of water until they start then begin rinsing and get a screen lid put upside down. You got this
Cheers for the advice, we'll have to try that!
Very good work, you two. indeed.
Great Video guys today ! Not sure about the glasses however 😂 Get a pair of Oakleys 😊
Whatever floats your boat😉
Great video
Try sprouting your seeds in a jar with a muslin/cloth lid. Flush with fresh water twice a day.
Will give that a go, thanks!
They do have an o ring and we sealed as well as that, which was the recommendation 😊
I spot battleborns 😊
LOL, sprouts are harvested just before Christmas in the UK. Does that give you a clue?
💙Repair and refit vids!💛
Well done guys great work, take care both ⛵️⛵️👍👍
Cheers Stuart! 😁
Thanks!
Thank you so much Dan!!!
Not much but maybe a tea or coffee!
@@TeuluTribe
You wait until nightfall when they all congregate fr the night...then creep up and spray the thruhole with surface bug spray and voila...deaded wasps!
put the sprouts in a jar lid off with a little water in on its side like just moist
Seacocks! OMG 😮
The link works but couldn’t get onto the vallon website without it telling me I’m shopping from the uk and it wouldn’t go away 🤷🏽♂️
True design are fantastic. But I can’t say I’ve ver seen sika 291 used as a thread sealant before.
Cheers
google - grow sprouts in a jar - a lot easier rinse daily
I don't prefer to kill bees or wasps, but if I have to, carb cleaner is an instant killer.
Saw “Cecelia” on the hard. That’s the old boat that belonged to #SailAway YT channel, before they sold it and bought an old Privilege 482 catamaran, "Ophelia" last year. They are now back in Grenada continuing their refit.
If you lightly countersink the holes you filled with epoxy top and bottom they would be more securely locked in and no chance of popping out
You need a solar chimney to remove the heat from the boat.
Cheap set of scales and 2 plastic cups, all you need for mixing epoxy 1mg = 1ml 👌🏻
Thanks for the tip!
I just spent our summer here on the great lakes in Michigan( United States)at a Marina on lake Saint Claire.... I'll never do that again
Oo i bet that was chilly! Did you have a diesel heater or wood burner on board at least?
@@TeuluTribe I meant to say summer, and was thinking about winter, because it was 29 degrees this morning 🥶 I'm hauling out for the winter, then heading for the Gulf of Mexico next spring. I would love to be the tough guy who braves the cold winter in my lil 27ft sloop, but alas.....I'm spending the winter working in a kitchen where it's warm and I get a free meal lol
Put the sprouts down on five sheets of soaking wet paper towel, then cover with one sheet of paper towel and soak that down
Great suggestion, we will try that next time 😊
I don't like to be negative but...
When using sealant on threads you need to fill the threads not just lay sealant on top as it won't make a perfect seal, just apply to thread and use finger to fill each groove. Remember your not just doing it, your bloody doing it.
Is there a reason you went with plastic through-hull/sea-cocks as opposed to the traditional bronze?
That sure was a big herd of wasps.
What was wrong with your Blakes seacocks?
Hey Becka. How do you edit your videos (what app do you use?) I want to start up a channel loving the content btw! xx
Sika is what is recommended normally 😊
Put the elbow on first, making the sea-cock horizontal, to dramatically reduce the height of the assembly.
These are plastic, imagine accidentally stepping the whole assembly sideways. That's a very bad day.😅
Is it thru holes or thru hulls ?? 😆
not sure about your skin fitting process. the pros here where true design are made in nz fitted mine with one guy outside holding the skin fitting while another inside tightened nut up on the sika flex. done.
waiting till it skins up and re tightning will break the seal ?
true design are regarded as the best.
Easier to grow sprouts in a jar.
Dont cheap out on the luxuries or you'll regret it on the sea
@17:06 Yep, that's the only and correct way!👴👌
The sprouts do better in a jar!!!
Thanks :)
All things pale!...
