My sis taught me this 27 years ago when she came to Australia , still love it 👍
You're absolutely right to have fish veges cut up small as it's easy to eat and more flavourable. Looks yummy 😊
Cheers from England 🇹🇴 👀
I really like this recipe. I see a lot where they don't use just coconut cream but add the lemon and coconut cream with water, therefore, WATERING it down. Nice one for not watering it down. Just like how I always knew how to make ika mata taught by mum. I was beginning to think the recipe mum taught me was wrong. Obviously not! 🤔 Thanks for making it all gud! Thank you.
There's many versions. This is as basic as I make it but you know, different strokes for different folks it's all good 😁
Yummy im making some later using trevally
Nothing says home in summer like some raw fish ❤
Thank you my g, was just looking for an easy and what looked to be a normal version of the recipe, appreciate it
Chur cuz anytime
try freshly grated and strained coconut cream, the stuff from brown organic coconuts the way its done in the islands takes raw fish to a different level, they don't use cans just 100% pure
Would love to bro but got no coconut trees in Melbourne 🤣
The tea strainer 😝🤣 thx for the giggle.
Can’t wait to try it
best people on earth them Maori.

Bro im gna make some now it will be my 1st go but im hungry lol can i use snapper what fish do you use
めちゃくちゃ美味しそう
Great video, and don't stress bout cutting those tomatoes. Well done. Awsume
I always marinade my fish with lemon at maximum 30 mins. For me I don’t want the citrus to burn through the fishes flavour at the same time.
I also marinade the fish and cucumber with lemon as lemon Marries well with cucumber
It depends what fish your using and how fresh it is, with snapper, it needs less time to marinade, but with fish like kahawai and travelly, it usually needs a bit longer. For fresh fish that you've caught, I would use less lemon and as you say, have it marinade for minimal time
@@DrBojangles007 Yeh bro fresh fish less lemon time.
@@TamokoHaka Had this just now! I'm Aussie but my parents are from NZ, love this stuff. Exactly the same recipe you used here man. He used barramundi and blue grenadier, works very well!
Hehaa brutha✊🔥🔥🔥

Bro that would actually be a mean variation. I sometimes add chilli to mine too. Go for it!

Beautiful I'm going to make some with pollack
Bro thats so true i hate chunky onions ae lol
What kind of FISH do you use!???
I'm using Basa here. However would prefer to use snapper or cod but well you know $$$. But as long as you marinate it for at least 4 hours it will take on a firmer texture.
Can we use any fish fillet such as salmon?
Ooh never tried salmon before but it sounds interesting. Do it and let me know how it goes.
Awesome recipe bro but not sure about Basa 😂 thats viet kong catfish farmed in paru waters.. better stick to snaps 👍🏼
Hard bro, not flash enough for da snaps 🤣 but you go hard gee!
Try Gaygaynut cream😅
So was it coconut water or coconut milk? I’m trying to make ika mata for the first time
Sorry for the late reply. Coconut cream.
Me@nM@ori❤❤❤

@@productionsproductions4188
African? 😁
needs more lemon
Thats alot of coconut cream
I turned off as soon as yuo said bassa
I reckon use better quality ingredients. It will taste way better like... Kara Coconut Cream, snapper or actually anything apart from Basa. Its too soft and makes it shredd. Also add capsicum, yum as
Yeh absolutely bro. Higher quality is better. My personal favourite is kahawai and trident cream. We have 8 children so budget is tight save for the odd special occasion when we might splash out a little bit. I know lot's of peeps add other ingredients and I encourage people to add anything they might like. Unfortunately I dislike capsicum very much lol but all to their own. Sweet az.
I'll make some for my family when they visit , won't be as good as they got living in Raro but they will appreciate it I'm sure - meitaki maata
