I have a youdao translator app in my phone. BTW, Beijing style really represents the typical northern style, however, there are way more different hotpot style in the south other than Sichuan mala style, which you must try in the future. Here is the clue: porridge hotpot in Shunde, beef hotpot in Shantou, sour soup hotpot in Guizhou and fresh mushroom hotpot in Yunnan, etc. Oh, I'm sorry, I remember there is another northern style, which is in Dongbei region, they have pickled cabbage hotpot. Looking forward to seeing your hotpot discovery collections.🥘

As a foreigner in China, I get that "urge" for hot pot more than I think even the average Chinese does. This why single-person hot pot, namely the restaurant Xiabu Xiabu, is the way to go. All the great experience of hot pot, but with everything exactly as you'd like it.

I think the main reason we love hot pot is the socializing experience. You got your friends and family, we all surrounding a hot pot for an hour or two. Eating, drinking and chatting, it's like the British going to a pub if you think about it. Also, Chinese people love hot food in general and it's perfect for winter time.

Hotpot reminds me of chinese new year when I was kid, because in that time almost only in new year you can have as much meat as you want in hotpot and the whole family come together, someone light the pot, some one wash the veggies, and the kids are just yearning for the pot to be cooked and we could start eating.

Chinese hot pot reminds me of BBQ places in Korea. You have your grill or just fire. Grill your meat. Order some side dishes. Pick your meat, sauce, side dish, etc. and wrap it in lettuce or sesame leaves. And stay for hours. And of course order some "so-mek" (soju and beer).

I think the popularity of hotpot has been exaggerated in this video. Hotpot is certainly a popular dish in China that everyone loves but for the majority of people, they only eat it occasionally in my opinion. I do believe you two eat in this restaurant only for the purpose of recoding this video, otherwise I will feel sorry for you as you can go to a non-网红店 with a lower price and even a better taste. From my experience eating hotpot, I think things in the restaurant you visited are overpriced, especially the meat coldcut platter with toy. A dish like that costing 128 rmb will I in a hotpot restaurant never oder!
