We are looking for SS1 footage from the Rallye Monte-Carlo 1999, if anyone has footage or knows someone who has, please contact us. (joicolomerfont@gmail.com) We have a project to make a special video about it. (We need the original tapes if possible) 😄
Freddy was about +16" at the intermediate (when the Ambulances are parked on the right) but recovered nearly all the disadvantage on the snowy part! Wonder if they had different tyres or if it was just a question of approach
I was thinking the same, with all the huge work you're doing with those 1st special onboard videos, and compare split times from different drivers. Beautiful special in all the 48 kms!
Freddy Loix is a very underated driver, he drove within the limits of the car and tyres on this horrendous stage, he was unlucky, he was so close to putting in a fastest stage time.
Actually no. Freddy Loix was a great driver but tended to overdrive the car. He pushed too hard but when he got it right, world class. Fast Freddy was fast and spectacular but would lead to mistakes
Bello come sempre ,una domanda . La lancer evo 5 in europa era omologata come carisma gt?No perché la normale carisma era diversa dalla lancer se non sbaglio.
Freddy loix should never have gone to Mitsubishi. It is understandable that he then chose Mitsubishi at the end of 1998 since he knew Toyota was going to quit at the end of 1999. But an extra year in the Corolla (a car he helped develop) probably would have brought him better results in 1999 and then a better negotiating position for 2000. Instead, he was second fiddle to Mitsubishi with a strong Finnish lobby around Mäkinen. As a "little Belgian" with little lobby on the team, he never felt comfortable in the evo 6 and 6.5. And 1999 was his first full year in the wrc. Not ideal to start mastering car as well. He was never allowed to take full control of his own car setup. With a bias more to the front. Similar to the F2 forerunners as he competed in the early 90s, requiring a clean clean driving style like later both Sebastiens from France learned to rally. Instead, he was never able to adapt to the rear bias mitsubishi which was very tricky to drive. Only Mäkinen could tame it in a way. Was Freddy Loix as good as the hype in 1998? We're never going to know. But his stint at Mitsubishi certainly didn't help matters. Fortunately, he still had a nice second career in IRC with Peugeot and Skoda.
In the end it was still driver error, but one can feel a bit sorry for Loix, unlike Sainz and Auriol he seemed to taky way more reasonable and steady approach (suiting for only the first stage of first rally), but in the end one small slide and you're fcked anyway. That's rally 🫡 I'd ask if there will be any onboard from Octavia WRC, but yeah, they rather didn't make even make it there 🙃😂

Do you have more onboards from these years?
We compare the OnBoard of Mäkinen and Loix and at the exact moment of Freddy's accident he is only 3 seconds slower than Tommi! 😄
Yes shame he binned it, he would have got a solid second on the stage

Tyre choice makes the Monte such an exciting event, hopefully we get challenging conditions this year 👍

Its a shame Freddy never truly did well at Mitsubishi, considering he showed worlds of potential at Toyota.
Buen trabajo
Gracias
Thank you again!
Thank you so much!!! Because of this kind of videos I had to do some of the stages with my Evo 6! Perfect!
Ma sono usciti tutti in questa prova. Sainz Oriol Loix . Grazie per il video e ciao a tutti

Couple of times there is a bit of confusion about ice in the pacenotes.

Impressive in the snow, but perhaps a little too risky.
