As a native English speaking teacher we have 2nd language teachers. I think you guys have an advantage because you know the problems than non native speakers have learning the language. Something that native speakers very often have to figure out why students make these mistakes or have these problems.
I think the other issues is that if you are not "white" or "Black", many companies will not see you as an English teacher. Many companies want the "foreign" look. But there are places out there that will hire!!!
Hey! I have signed a contract with a school in Xian and I am from Pakistan. I have done bachelor, master and MPhill in English from Pakistan. TEFL from USA 12 plus years of experience. Now that all documents are submitted foe foreigner work permit notificatiom, some of my friends online are telling me that you might get rejected being a non native. Please solve this piece of puzzle.
the most annoying thing to me is those damn native speaker (especially American) on Facebook pages, every time some non-native speaker asks a question, they appeared from nowhere, "you made a typo, you miss spell that or this, how do you expect to teach English?" they nitpick every word so they can look down on you
I teach in school in the UK and work with UK born English native teachers. Lots of them don't have a clue about grammar or how to teach it. They need to goole past forms of irregular verbs to apply them in the sentences, for example. What is definitely our advantage as foreigners, is the fact we have a sound grammatical knowledge to build on and develop our second language, helping new learners better understand the process of the second language acquisition at the same time. I personally know non native speakers who teach English in Language schools in the UK. Like Marek said, they are highly appreciated for their knowledge and experience. Thank you for the video.

the irony is when some *non native English speaking* countries don't allow a *non native English teacher* LMAO as if a person from another background and who doesn't know their own language well can understand and tach them better 😆 Talk about killing opportunity for your own people It's always better if the teacher knows *your language as well*
Sure! I understand when they expect a native speaker... But for advanced level students! Doesn't makes sense not allowing a non native with high level of proficiency, or even fluency. It sucks
why do they only talk about countries like the US, the UK, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Australia, and South Africa? i am from Trinidad which is a native English-speaking country.
Isn't it interesting how they label South Africa as native speaker, when in reality South Africa is a non native speaker, because like Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana, Botswana, Liberia and Gambia, South Africa is a country with its own language but uses English as both its educational and official languages. The people making this distinction between native and non native speakers are doing it based not being well informed
Right. As long as have a good command of the English Language and you're willing to learn and understand how to teach, then anybody should be able to teach, regardless of country of origin
As a non-native speaker of English whose mother tongue is Chinese, I was turned down by International schools in China but accepted by several schools in the U.S. How funny life is!
I think there are some possibilities for getting a visa in China, but the rules vary greatly from province to province, and they can unexpectedly change too. So probably some of them might teach illegally or be employed on other visas, while a small proportion will be employed on the correct visa. I'll actually post an interview with a teacher from Marroco who teaches English in China. So stay tuned and subscribe so you don't miss it 😊

But China is a huge country with plenty of opportunities so you can always try out your luck. :)
@@dilyana100 hmmm... I also have a minor studied in English language from East Asian studies but studied it in Asia though not in a English speaking country. Maybe that won't help either 😅
@@luru1544 I can't say for sure. As I said give it a try.
Very helpful info...how can i reach you? got some questions
1st time here
Thanks for the information
What would you guys say
About teaching online
But being a South African 😕
Hello sir
Thanks for this video sir. It's really valuable for me as a teacher. I really want to get Primary teacher job in foreign.
You got it???
Thank you
Very informative.. thank you
the most annoying thing to me is those damn native speaker (especially American) on Facebook pages, every time some non-native speaker asks a question, they appeared from nowhere, "you made a typo, you miss spell that or this, how do you expect to teach English?" they nitpick every word so they can look down on you
I teach in school in the UK and work with UK born English native teachers.
Amazing video

I want to take the CELTA and teach English abroad.
Do you think I can do it without having a bachelors degree?
Hello carol if you interested to learn hindi language and add some other langauge then contact me or reply me

There are plenty of non-native teachers in China
They are really racist sadly usually I don't met it burger me but they way they are soo in your face and don't care is concerning for me and I'd rather not, wish I could go to Korea ( no not coz of k pop or dramas)
So I'd rather stick to online, have your taught in China
Thanks for sharing. I’m running into the difficulty finding employment having a German passport, although having spent 24 years in the United States on a greencard visa, speaking English on a native level. I could use input and help. Kind regards….
How do you think I need master degree of one year TEFL is enough to find a job in Germany? I have teacher bachelor degree and 5 years of teaching experience
Same question
the irony is when some *non native English speaking* countries don't allow a *non native English teacher* LMAO as if a person from another background and who doesn't know their own language well can understand and tach them better 😆
Talk about killing opportunity for your own people
It's always better if the teacher knows *your language as well*
Sure! I understand when they expect a native speaker... But for advanced level students! Doesn't makes sense not allowing a non native with high level of proficiency, or even fluency. It sucks
Never thought of this in this way!
why do they only talk about countries like the US, the UK, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Australia, and South Africa? i am from Trinidad which is a native English-speaking country.
Sir,
Can I know about the CEPA agreement of India with S.Korea.
Are you also willing to teach in sk?
I want to work in kindergarten, elementary or preschool. But I don't have any certificates and also I'm just a b.com graduate in india.
Does Germany accept non native teachers of English?
How much money do I need to pay in your school to get the TEFL certificate and how long is the course?
You can get online course under 400 USD
What about non-white non-native speakers?
why not?
And remember guys, being a native speaker in any language isn't a guarantee you can teach the language properly...
Right. As long as have a good command of the English Language and you're willing to learn and understand how to teach, then anybody should be able to teach, regardless of country of origin
What is your site
Please send some links of jobs
As a non-native speaker of English whose mother tongue is Chinese, I was turned down by International schools in China but accepted by several schools in the U.S. How funny life is!
Where can non native speaker apply for online tutor as almost asked for native speaker
Good day. I am a teacher for ten years from India.TELF certified. How to apply abroad. Pls do help
Thank u
Thanks
I know a lot of non native speakers teaching in China, is that illegal ? if yes, what do they do?
I think there are some possibilities for getting a visa in China, but the rules vary greatly from province to province, and they can unexpectedly change too. So probably some of them might teach illegally or be employed on other visas, while a small proportion will be employed on the correct visa. I'll actually post an interview with a teacher from Marroco who teaches English in China. So stay tuned and subscribe so you don't miss it 😊
