  • This is a walking tour and 4k visit of the Louvre Museum. The Louvre is the world's largest art museum and a historic monument in Paris, France, and is best known for being the home of the Mona Lisa painted by Leonardo Da Vinci as well as Napoleon III's apartments.
The Napoleon III apartments are unique in that they have retained all the splendor of their original décor and furnishings.
Napoleon III, the nephew of Napoleon I, was the emperor of France from 1852 to 1870. Born in 1808 in Paris, France, he grew up in exile. He began his quest for to gain back the throne in 1832, writing to let his ideas be known to the people. He became the Emperor of the Second French Empire. He was the first President of France elected by a popular election.
Almost every king of France put hands in the Louvre. Adding and demolishing wings or changing the intended use of the building. Starting from Philipp August II that built a little fort on the Seine river in 1223. To Catherine ‘de Medici, that built Le Tuilerie Palace and used it as a royal residence for the first time. To Luis XIV that lived here while Versailles Castle was under construction. Until Napoleon III that lead the palace to the maximum extent, calling the whole ‘Cité Impériale’.
And the current aspect of the Louvre is due to Napoleon III himself. During his reign, in the second half of XIX century, great architect such as Louis Visconti and Hector-Martin Lefuel re-designed the palace. Until that time the Louvre complex was formed by unattached building and the half of them were in ruin because of abandonment and riots.
After Sedan defeat, in 1871, the wrath of the crowd came across Tuileries Palace that was burned and later destroyed. So, nowadays, the Sate Rooms in the wing that used to connect the old Louvre to Tuileries Palace, called Napoleon III Apartments, are the only survivors of the Napoleon III style within Louvre building.
These state rooms, even if called Napoleon III Apartments, have never been personally used by the monarch, but by his State Minister Achille Fould, that personally took care of their decoration. Napoleon III apartments open in the enormous state drawing room that encloses all the opulence of that time: gilded decorations, red damasks, and bronzes are the main decorative leitmotif. The ceiling has been frescoed by Charles-Raphael Marechal with a Napoleon III commemorative scene.

This was interesting and glad you uploaded it; however, your video would be better if you slowed down on panning and less jerky. It is blurry a lot. Doesn't seem like 4k. It's better to go slower because when you see it replayed, it looks faster. Give people time to absorb what they're seeing; otherwise, it looks like you darting your eyes running through the place. 🙂

You have a great camera and this has been a very nice walking tour. I agree with the comment about quick panning and movement. I had to slow the playback down to enjoy some of the rooms. Normal speed was giving me a little bit of vertigo but I have to keep watching because the rooms are so beautiful. Thank you

Wow, I did not think that those baroque apartments were so close to the museum....I thought they might have been in an entirely separate wing.

There used to be another vast and opulent palace next to the Louvre that was used by Napoleon the Third and that was the Tuileries Palace (So named because the site used to be a tile factory)Unfortunately it was burn't down by the mob during the Commune period after France's defeat in the Franco-Prussian War and never rebuilt. There are gardens there now but some people have proposed rebuilding it like the Germans who have now rebuilt their imperial palace in Berlin.

Those apparemment are called "Duc de Morny", who was Napoléon III Nephew, and finances minister.
They are the best French exemple for Napoléon III style.
Before all Le Louvres became a museum, those area were used by the ministry of finances up to Mitterrand.

the Duke de Morny was not Napoleon III's nephew. It was his half brother.
