Hudson Hornets were painted with lacquer paint, not enamel. I can't believe the owner did not know how to open the hood. Hudson Hornets are incredible cars. My dad had a 52 Hudson Hollywood Hornet with the Twin H, fast car for the time. Won Nascar for 3-4 years straight.

"Barn Find" apparently means something altogether different now, than it did in the Eighties... When we were actually finding halfways decent old cars in actual, abandoned barns...
My brother and I found a rotting barn about three miles away from our folks house in Texas... We lived North of Houston in the Eighties, when it was still rural... Now it might as well be Houston Proper.
Anyhow, the barn was about 1/4 mile off of the road and in a thicket.
The house had long since fallen into itself.
Inside the barn, among all kinds of cool stuff like farm equipment and horse equipment... There was a 1927 Packard touring car... Long wheelbase.
We found out who owned the property, he was an OLD dude... In his early nineties.
He told us that if we could get the car out of the barn without killing ourselves, we could have it.
We ended up having to find a guy with a boom crane to put straps underneath it and lift it out and over to the solid ground...
The barn was built into the side of a hill and was so rotten, if we pushed the car across what was left of the floor, it'd probably have gone right through.
It's front and rear axles were directly over two floor joists... And those were iffy, too.
Long story longer, we got a free touring car to play with... It was REALLY ROUGH and we made parts for the body ourselves in some cases... But it made a fun, BIG hotrod.😁

It’s the 1st car hat I can remember.
I was born in Oct of 1952. I remember climbing up & lying dwn in the loft of the rear window. It was one hell of a wide & sturdy shelf like platform. I wld lie dwn on my left side & look out the back window as my dad wld be driving this BIG sob of a vehicle.
It was VERY heavy,. so heavy if on who was driving ever was to hit a

The 1953 Hudson is my least favorite of the post-war step-down Hudsons as I don't like the faux scope that is positioned much too far upfront, nor the elimination of the chrome triangle on the grille. They should have introduced the '54 model in '53 instead of going a third year with the same basic design as the '51 model. It was also a very poor seller with only 66,000 Hudsons sold that year but with 21,000 of them being the new Jets; so only 45,000 larger models went off the dealers' lots which was a big drop from 131,000 two years previously. There were probably even fewer than that actually sold as the company was forced to introduce its new model early that year due to abysmal sales. Hudson lost $10 million in 1953 after making $8 million the year before and as a result of the economic bleeding was forced to merge with the much more healthy Nash/Kelvinator Company to form American Motors. 😕
