We did all win since you uploaded this AWESOME episode. Even though they're certainly not as polished as the later episodes there's a certain amount of charm that goes with the 1st seasons episodes. They're hard to find to, so thanks for uploading this, and all of the other episodes you've shared. You are the fucking MAN!
@@catnewskawai9367 Yes! Josh was really young. Mike Nelson is also a few years younger that the MST3K core. & Joel always looks like he just rolled outta bed!
TWO AND A HALF HOURS TO SUPERBOWL AN HOUR AND FOURTEEN MINUTES TO SUPERBOWL THIRTY-SEVEN MINUTES TO SUPERBOWL EIGHT MINUTES, TWENTY-TWO SECONDS TO SUPERBOWL
It just struck me... Even moreseo than the Comedy Central and Sci-Fi years, this version of MST3k reminds of the old Star Wars spoof, "Hardware Wars." Very much the same found object, almost kitchen-utensil/appliance shtick. Funny how I watched this show for years but didn't make that connection... I'm not saying Joel misappropriated anything. At worst, it's an unconscious homage but frankly I think it's coincidental. This really IS his baby -- NOBODY, and I repeat NOBODY, really did a show like this prior to 1988. The closet thing would probably be Red Dwarf but that was done completely differently and isn't the same thing...
"Family Porn"...LOL! It certainly didn't seem like the most appropriate scene in a made-for-tv flick which most likely had a few younger football fans watching-and apt comment, and hilarious to boot.
@diogeneslaertius666 great point. also, why can't he control when the movie begins or ends? Sounds like he only used "extra" parts to make his robot friends.
In Servo's fantasy when Joel is intentionally trying to be a jerk, he just doesn't seem like a jerk. Maybe it's his laidback voice or his overall kind demeanor that ruins his ability to play a 'villain'.
It is supposed to be a Mystery or Science Fiction movie. Or perhaps a Science Fiction Mystery. Occasionally the mystery is why they made the movie in the first place.
At 49:23 there's a Chumlee fat joke. But this episode aired 10 years before Pawn Stars debuted. How the hell did that happen? Was Chumlee famous for something else in 1989?
The riffs are very good in this episode escpecially for such an early one. Love the David Janssen riffs! I think it's Crow making them, very funny. The riff's are actually racier then later on until Mike took over, IMO. Looked up Janssen's bio and he was around 45 when this was made looking like he was going on 65. He died 3 years later with high levels of alcohol, morphine, and cocaine in him. Youch. This episode was made just 11 year after this turkey aired, the 70's style of things came and died a really fast death when 1980 came along. The whole Disco sucked movement kind of killed most 70's styles. Except for Tom Selleck's that is.
The riffs about him are a lot better than in the SPACE TRAVELERS episode, because those are about his drinking and just about nothing else EXCEPT his drinking, so it really wears thin. (Otherwise I LIKE that episode.)
pretty much par for every sports movie i've ever seen. altho to be fair, this wasn't really about sports was it? well kinda. believe it or not but abc used this nightmare to promote superbowl XII. anyone else notice they used lsu jerseys for one of the teams?
sad had only sligtly better acting then this. By the way does anybody now why the darn gamera episode which I think covered the like first 6 films were reshown again as part of season 3 when it aired with the current doctor forrest and tvs frank there to replace doctor air heart because he dissapeared. I think they had legal problems at one point I think the volume that gila monster on it.
That's not nice! As far as I know Dick Buttkiss never did those things. I heard he's even looking for the real killers, Hertz rent-a-car. Hopefully they'll pay for what they did! Cheers
I agree with you but I beleive the first season was mostly adlibbed, during the riffing at least! Now, that's a challenge that even the best riffer would sweat over. As far as show hosts, I prefer to ask, who is the worst host? Less arguments that way. ;)
^ yeah, that's right. a few days ago I was watching the bonus material from the 20th anniversary DVD pack. the cast mentions that the show wasn't scripted during the KTMA days.
I know the people who complained about hobo goblins for the early season when pearl took over after thety got sucked through that like black hole went to the future. Should watch this before they complained about this even the sequel to hob goblins even thought it was basically the first movie made over again similiar to return of the living dead 2. Man aren';t there sussposed to be terrorist in this film. Dam beverly hills cop 3
You go out and have sex with a guy and I'm playing in the Super Bowl, guess what I'm doing after the Super Bowl. Win or lose, guess what ya' boy is gonna being doing with probably about 3 or 4 women.
I honestly don't like the early shows. Not much dialogue was done towards the films, and Tom Servo talks too low. Very hard to make out what he's saying.
At 34:00 you can tell it's an early episode, because when a character in the movie says "switch," no one says "Jimmy Smits."
Oh man OJ references before 1994....if only Joel knew the comedic gold he was too early for here

Seconded (twenty-seconded?)
Joel looks like a high school kid! Love these episodes. Thank you!
Josh actually was a high school kid!

These "cameo roles" (movies) are fun to watch, too
Bubba Smith RIP- Crow- "He's never made a bad film" Thanks MST for your comments on one of my childhood heroes.
36:39 "He's got a voice like a body being thrown through a bus window." One of their best-ever lines.
Wow. This is great to see early episodes like this. Thanks, analogkid01!
Thank you so much for uploading this rare episode!!!
I can't wait to be beyond "Superdome".
What a nice little chestnut. Enjoyed this immensely. I must add that the commercial editing is excellent. Ty analogkid01.
I like this! And I have to say one thing: Are you ready for some FOOTBALL?!!!
ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?!?
In "Superdome", apparently not.
"sit down have some catfish".
"will that help?"
Crow is the only robot that never changed.
Trace Beaulieu left the show at the end of season 7 and Bill Corbett took over in season 8.
His eyes became less static.
I had $10 million, riding on this game, and I still don't know who won.
A young Tom "Magnum, NYPD Blue Blood Commisoner" Selleck.
Can't we get beyond Superdome?
Not until we tinaturn the page.
;)
Dick Buttkus, perfect name for a football player; along with Scott Studwell, a fine athlete!
I wonder what his porn name would be?
I ❤️ the welcoming vibe of the KTMA eps (& classic eps/Comedy Central)
If your wondering why this isn't a sci-fi movie you should really just relax
Ah, Donna Mills's face, before her "General Hospital" Botoxed misadventure...
Ooh who did she play? I use to watch GH all the time, the last 5 yes not so much
It's the "elusive" Michael Denby!
TWO AND A HALF HOURS TO SUPERBOWL
AN HOUR AND FOURTEEN MINUTES TO SUPERBOWL
THIRTY-SEVEN MINUTES TO SUPERBOWL
EIGHT MINUTES, TWENTY-TWO SECONDS TO SUPERBOWL
Damn, I was hoping they'd do it like my microwave...
5 minutes and 83 seconds to superbowl...
3 seconds, 2,924 milliseconds to superbowl...
At a little after 29:10…really can’t pound a bunch of piano keys ANY harder. Yiiiikes.
Holy crap! I've never seen this kind of episode before!
Monomythhero85 yeah well we all have to start somewhere right?
*Guy takes case out of locker* "Hey, Gary Coleman!"
I can never help thinking that Dick Butkus looks like Rip Taylor in this movie!
its weird seeing Dr Forester before his getup.
It just struck me... Even moreseo than the Comedy Central and Sci-Fi years, this version of MST3k reminds of the old Star Wars spoof, "Hardware Wars."

I just got some mediocre dome, it wasn't super at all.
At the SUPER BOWL, there’s a MARCHING BAND for entertainment...uh, suuure. Lol. Thx for the post. I’m NEVER ready for some football.
"I'm not normally this way; it's just Servo's perception of me." Joel's infamous last words?!?
Did the detective ever find the one arm man?
Wow, seeing this proto-MST3K is HORRIFYING. Dear goodness they improved this so much.
"Family Porn"...LOL! It certainly didn't seem like the most appropriate scene in a made-for-tv flick which most likely had a few younger football fans watching-and apt comment, and hilarious to boot.
Crow (Trace) does a great David Janssen in "Space Travelers"/"Marooned"!
@diogeneslaertius666 great point. also, why can't he control when the movie begins or ends? Sounds like he only used "extra" parts to make his robot friends.
"It's heavy bread!" "Whole wheat!"
I know its heavy bread!
@@mulletboater i still knead it!
GREAT LINE! "Women weaken the knees. It's a known fact." (no wonder she saw a shrink "to get smaller")
In Servo's fantasy when Joel is intentionally trying to be a jerk, he just doesn't seem like a jerk. Maybe it's his laidback voice or his overall kind demeanor that ruins his ability to play a 'villain'.
Ever see Joel's interview on Space Ghost ("$20.01" ep)? SG tells Joel that he "has a reputation that he's difficult to work with."
It is supposed to be a Mystery or Science Fiction movie. Or perhaps a Science Fiction Mystery. Occasionally the mystery is why they made the movie in the first place.
@ChaoticYak - We all won, ChaoticYak. We all won.
Man, The Cougars. Dam I was expecting a bunch of middle aged women to get off that bus, boy was I disappointed!
Funny!
Where's the final host segment? Servo's letter isn't finished yet!!!!
"Take me to the nearest daiquiri stand" (they're all over New Orleans)
Stock footage "pouring out from all over the world"
The riffs were really silly back in these early episodes. Like really dumb but funny stoner jokes.
Joel smoking is great.
Am perfecting my Joel just rolled outta bed hairdo
Has anyone even seen a football? Still laughing....
So is this one of those movies that are several episodes of a show put together? Like San Fransisco International and Times of the Apes to name a few
Thank you!!!!!
Where is the ending that was found in 2004?
yes, that is correct. good.
@StukInBuf Where is it regarded as Sci-Fi?
The Cougars vs the Rangers. Are these NFL or AFL teams?
At 49:23 there's a Chumlee fat joke. But this episode aired 10 years before Pawn Stars debuted. How the hell did that happen? Was Chumlee famous for something else in 1989?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tennessee_Tuxedo_and_His_Tales
Set designer "Don Sullivan"? "He sings whenever he sings whenever he sings"?
@44.44 - 45.02: You'll probably never hear dialog like that in a movie these days....
Oh, when Joel exclaims "Oh, WOW" . . . SIGH
Was this sposta be a ripoff of BLACK SUNDAY or TWO-MINUTE WARNING?
Was that supposed to be a troll attempt?
No. It's a totally different movie.
And then a hurricane hits...ooops, nope, too soon for that, eh?
Is this from the first year?
Yes.
If I'm not mistaken, this is mst3k

Where did you get the info about Janssen on morphine and cocaine? As far as I was aware, there were no drugs found in his system at all.
@unknownodin Yes :)
How can "Superdome" be classified as a sci-fi movie?
In some far-off future dystopian hellscape, this movie is what counts as entertainment.
Davie's Dad from San Francisco International,I never noticed that before!
is this really mst3k
Yes, it is.
"Oh, Wow." Oh, Joel! (Why I drove around Cuyahoga County w/a bumper sticker: I'd rather be naked in bed w/Joel Hodgson)
So s'how "weak knees" affect sexual prowess? (hasn't affected my libido)
Guys had "day" (often "night") jobs during KTMA years.
So who won?
+Amber Gruszeczka We all did, Amber...we all did.
The team with most points...duh!
;)
So, New Orleans is like getting hit in the back of the head w/a football?
So what we're saying is people who struggled w/high school math can understand "point spread."
It's insulting to me, that other person was on their own with all that.
My parents watch "Blue Bloods", and seriously, I don't know what they'd think of this movie...
Whoa, Peter Haskell wasn't the bad guy?!
pretty much par for every sports movie i've ever seen. altho to be fair, this wasn't really about sports was it? well kinda. believe it or not but abc used this nightmare to promote superbowl XII. anyone else notice they used lsu jerseys for one of the teams?

This movie is so depressing and they had long gaps of silence from Joel and the Bots. Couldn't watch it all the way through, lol.

Tomorrow is 2020 Superbowl so had to watch this 😉
Go Chiefs!
If the MST3K guys did this episode now, at precisely 10:46 they woulda said "hes a murdering drunk?"
That's not nice!
As far as I know Dick Buttkiss never did those things.
I heard he's even looking for the real killers, Hertz rent-a-car.
Hopefully they'll pay for what they did!
Cheers
I guess as an African American it's insulting...but I know some people did talk like that back then.
This is not as good as their polished episodes later on, but it’s certainly appreciated; I enjoyed this one, but Mike is funnier than Joel 💯
Watch your mouth, son, you're in Joel country here.
I agree with you but I beleive the first season was mostly adlibbed, during the riffing at least!
Now, that's a challenge that even the best riffer would sweat over.

Wow, the police captain from Bladerunner is the nerdy guy at 43:00?
worst sports thriller since the fan......
based on actual events of the 1980 superbowl as predicted by Nostradamus

Good Christ that was a bad movie.
Cutting out any segments makes you lose me as a viewer. Granted, I'm worth less than 1, but still.
Sorry Karen, I'll go get the manager.
You go out and have sex with a guy and I'm playing in the Super Bowl, guess what I'm doing after the Super Bowl. Win or lose, guess what ya' boy is gonna being doing with probably about 3 or 4 women.
I saw the title and was hoping for a Beyond Thunderdome rip-off. Disappointed. 😉
Wow! LSD flashback!
...
Long stupid dialog
Mike > Joel
My channel is Joel Country, boy, watch your mouth.
I honestly don't like the early shows. Not much dialogue was done towards the films, and Tom Servo talks too low. Very hard to make out what he's saying.
@ 0:47:39 Talking like a stereotype. LOL
This movie is so insulting to black people... :/
Worst movie yet. Teenage caveman way better.
This shuked
Ah, the year before Mike Nelson fucked it up.
The whata what now?
Whata what?
