I like to hide fluorescents in my scenery and then give the spellcasters a UV flashlight whenever they cast Detect Magic.
Omg! That’s a genius idea. Love it!
Cool idea
dont change the "a" for a "e"
You sure do have some stellar videos and minis. That insane little rabbit got you a sub. It looked so rad even before you painted it. Keep up the great work!
Aw thank you! 😊
Wow your dreamy style is really awesome looking. I remember those posters as a kid.
Thank you! Same, been thinking about getting one as an adult haha
I've been painting my chaos daemons with fluorescent paints for about a year now, and I've learned an interesting tidbit of knowledge. Chromatic grey shows up as a near white under blacklight.
to make it, take your secondary colors in fluorescent (orange, green, purple) and mix them equally.
Also, fluorescent paints mixed with black still shines through the black, albeit with a darker effect.
I like the pretty color mushrooms and also the mad hatted rabbit 🙂
Thanks Goobs! 😄
Very cool. Im really trying to find more ways to have my models pop on the table top, helps keep track of and find everything easier
This is better than the actual monument hobby video on these paints.
Seriously, though the first example, Mini was some rocketeer guy and they put red O. S, l, but they never finished the base. So what the fuck was the red glow for!?!?!?!?!
Fluroescent paints are such a wonderful, quick way to pretend like I have some kind of talent.
I'm constantly amazed when another plasma coil or exhaust port comes to life and 'glows'.
A lot of things that look like crazy techniques are actually less scary than you think. :) you got this!
The difference the fluorescents made on the base is insane 🤯
right! i love using them to boost vibrancy
GSW's Flour pigments and a medium of your choice is my go-to for fluorescent paint. Takes a bit more work, but worth it - they're vibrant af, and you get the choice of medium to make the paint do what you want.
The color pop from using them as a glaze was pretty great, thanks for the tip!
No problem! It’s my favorite way to punch up a color.
"Not that you'd ever be playing games under UV light" - so what I learned today is that we need to force Zambies to play in a Kill Team After Dark event 😎
YES. wait wait YES. I volunteer! haha
Thank you for this explanation! I've been struggling how to use fluorescents (esp without an airbrush)
Glad I could help!
This was a cool video idea! Now I’ve got some additional uses for my fluorescent paints other than cyberpunk minis.
yes! play around and find new ways to use them.
actually such an insightful video, great show cases on the uses of florescence
Thank you 😊
5:15 "Not that you'd ever really be playing games in UV light..."
Challenge accepted. Time to make two armies, a battlefield, and dice all look like a psychedelic 90s fever dream.
Yessssss. I would love to play a game like that!
Was gifted a box set for Xmas, perfect timing on this video thank you!
Sweet! That is great to hear.
This is so timely. I was just discussing fluorescent paints. Zambies coming through clutch with the videos
Haha awesome to hear that!
I enjoy combining fluro paints with musou black. Actually I like adding musou black into a lot of things. It is such an effective way of adding contrast without pushing highlights.
I've not used musou black yet but have been wanting to try it. I bet they look great that way!
neat, I like that the paints are transparent because I'm actually thinking of painting a solar cell with fluorescent paint as the flourescence converts unusable wavelengths of light into useable wavelengths and increases the output of the solar cell
Fluo colors have been in my toolbox for years now, the pop you can get with the parts you want to be glowy is so worth it
Totally agree!
Great video, Zambies! I’ve been playing around with fluorescents here and there, but I didn’t realize they were all like glazes. Thank you!
The best overview of flourescent paints I've seen. I'd been wondering about using flourescents to paint hi viz clothing and this was extremely helpful.
😄 Oh they would be perfect for hi viz clothing.
I just bought some! very informative :)
I’m glad to hear!
Monument hobbies makes great stuff!
agreed!
Wow! Not only are you a great painter but I can tell you just have fun with the hobby and enjoy experimenting!
😄 thank you! I do
Right when I thought I had all the paints I needed.. great video!
Haha. but wait there is more paint to get!
I love what you did with the rat character!
Thank you 😊
Quite the comprehensive review, Im definitely considering picking up the Monument hobbies fluorescents after seeing them in action on different models, great work on the minis as well
This video is wonderful, Zambies! Everything you need to know, nothing you don't, and so interesting and informative. Perfect.
Thank you so much!
What a wonderful video! I don’t think I’ve ever seen the potential of fluorescent paints put on display quite the way you did. Especially the before and after on your base. Amazing 🤩
Thank you so much! :)
Wow! I may have to purchase some now to try! I'm a beginner so I'm not comfortable yet doing alot of this stuff but I'm working my way there.
Welcome to the hobby! Don't worry about feeling like you need to be at a certain level to use paints or techniques. Have fun with it and try new things as you go. :) You got this!
that rabbit is nightmare fuel and I love it
Haha thanks! Glad I could help
I like to apply fluorescent colors to build back highlights after an oil wash. It makes for killer contrast. This was a great review and intro to fluorescents, too! Short and sweet.
Thanks! I haven't played with them and oil washes. I'll have to try this!
thank you for making this video. It's awesome and informative.
I was actually curious on how these paints would do as a Comic Style high note color and this helped a LOT.
Thanks for this vid, your timing is perfect. I've got a mushroom folk "army" I with a very Underdark feel I want to put together. I decided to try putting fluorescents over Black 3.0, and that blacklight rabbit you showed here is the perfect example of what I'm going for. Big thanks and **hugs**!!!
Fluor for vibrant skin tones is cool to play around with.
I haven't done that yet but now I want to! Bet it would be cool for some tattoo designs.
@@Zambies I haven’t used it for tattoos, but that’s a great idea. I’ll have to try it out now.
I'll be getting these. I want to paint my HeroQuest models up in a Masters of the Universe toy, bright, gaudy style. Every painting tutorial has been Warhammerish and Nuln Oil and grimdark. But this is what I want for HQ. Thanks for the examples.
That sounds awesome!!!
Fantastic breakdown, I loved that process for the evil Easter bunny
Your use of the fluros is great Zams! Can't wait to eventually dive into these myself! 🤘🤘
heck ya! thanks Wad :)
great video Zambies I just got my pro acryl fluro set and im stoked to try them out!
woo! heck ya
Yes! Zambs this was awesome.
you are awesome!
This video was really really well done!
Quick to the point, super informative, and showcased great examples. Thanks so much! 😊
Thank you! Glad you liked it 😄
lol that rabbit was so creepy I loved. I like the informative style of this video. Subbed
Haha thanks so much!
I love those old black light posters. Great work, this is definitely a handy resource!
Thanks! Now I wanna go pick some of those posters up
This was super helpful and interesting. Thanks for doing it!
Just picked these up planning on putting these on my space marines and nids
🤘🤘
Nice and informative video.
Enjoyed every second :)
Thanks for sharing and keep on the good work.
Greetings
Ozzy
Working some side glow fiber optics through the model terminating to a uv led does some wonderful things with these paints as well.
Thanks! Going to try that on alien plants I’m working on terrain I’m making.
Ooooh. I bet that is going to look awesome!
@@Zambies On my channel I have a preview of the alien flora that I have designed. Doing a collab with another creator. Although he is doing the painting and I the designs. I want to paint as well, just won’t do a video for it.
They look great! Thanks for the review. I need to make a monument order soon
welcome! haha, get some to play with
Most excellent video! Quick, but informative without feeling rushed. Also, very well presented. I've had some florescent paints on my self for a while, but never had the time to figure out how to properly use them. Truly appreciate the information.
Thank you so much! I hope you play with those fluorescents :)
Yay! Great vid, Zams!!
I've been playing around with neon paints ( even cheap craft ones trying to thin them down enough while keeping the vibrancy) to get UV aspects on minis mainly because I can't find UV paints in stores as i want to try getting certain events without an over the top florescent look akin to the look from httyd hidden world or the night time look from avatar i was even considering inks if they can take a flat coat while keeping the glowy effect 🤔
Great video!
thank you!
Really cool. 👍
😄 thanks!
This was really cool and I will probably try it out for som OSL!
heck ya! its totally worth it
0:55 Rumor has it, if you say "Goobertown Hobbies" 3 times in a row at your painting desk, it summons Brent the Chemist, and he makes a video explaining all of that stuff.
Haha. That is definitely a job for Goobs! I would love to hear him explain how it works.
@Zambies you should reach out to him and do a collaboration video. It would start out with you at a computer watching the florescent painting video and you see my comment and think, hmm, let's try it. So you go to your painting desk say it 3 times and then it cuts to brent at home with his cats, and a light bulb pops up above his head n and he says, "I have a great I idea for a video" then he starts making the video, and during his video it randomly cuts to you watching Brent's video.
beautiful
It would be really cool to see you paint some Kingdom Death Monster models I love your work its amazing.
So happy I've found your channel. I've been a fan of fluo paints for a long time. The bad coverage always bothered me, though. Emma from the channel Dice 'n Demons loves using the fluorescent paints from Huge Miniatures. According to her, their coverage is very good. I'd be happy if you could do a video on those colors.
Thank you 😊. I love dice’n demons work! I haven’t used Huge Minis paints before. But I have been meaning to try them out. I’ll have to pick some up to see!
@@Zambies I've subscribed to your channel, so if you do try them out, I will see the video. I'm especially curious if those paints are indeed as good as Emma claims, and if they are worth the shipping costs to Europe.
the fluorescent paints are cool. Id add that you can mix them to your acrylic paint but beware, the fluorescent paints tend to be like latex when they dry up and you can tear them easily (atleast the Vallejo brand).
Interesting. I've never noticed that issue, but I haven't used the Vallejo brand ones. I'll keep an eye out for this.
Right now at the Moment I'm using the Fluo-Colours from Scale 75 here and there. But I'm waiting for a new Paint Line, "Ultracryl", to come out next year. Their Colors seams to have a few new, intereisting takes on them. Even the Fluo-Colours, when I understand the Reviews correctly.
I've honestly never used Scale 75. I'll have to look up the new line.
Cool
Groovy!
Rad video.
As a psychedelic therapist, I love fluorescent but hate taking thousands of layers by brush. What I've been doing is adding Culture Hustles or Stewart Semple's neon pigments to aid in needing less layers when brushing. Ive also found, and this could be an error, but inks tend to be always orange under UV light. Also, Lit by culture hustle can be added to paint to give it glow without affecting color.
You can also achieve awesome results over black, especially black 3.0 or mousso black with fluorescents. It take a lot of work to be fair. Anyway 🍻
I’ve always wanted to try the 3.0 or mousso black and pigments to play around with. haven’t got my hands on it yet. Good to hear positive things about it.
It may be a bit boring compared to stoner mushroom rabbits but I use them for hi vis markings on SF minis.
I really love what you did with the OSL rogue with torch.
HAHA stoner mushroom rabbit is now what I'm calling it. Not boring to use them anyway you like!
I love to paint with fluo paints, it's crucial for my OSL effects during the commission painting, as you said, those paints hits our eyes with magic effect.
I have to agree about a blue fluo paint, it's completely worthless, this colour is too dark, but my hack for "fluo blue" is to use, as the halo effect a blue contrast paint, and then use fluo purple, but verry diluted and putting with an airbrush.
I've usually used like neon blues to create the illusion of fluorescent, but I'll have to try out the blue contrast with purple!
i have some vallejo fluro blue and its also really dull
Most are. I’m on the hunt to find a good one.
Great overview! I am, in fact, inspired.
mission accomplished! wooo
Hi Zambies! Just found your channel looking for a vid on fluorescents. Excellent vid! Question, you mentioned "LSL" a few times, what does that mean? You just got a new subscriber =D
Hey, thanks for the sub! I was talking about OSL. Which is object source lighting. It means you create a lighting effect from something like a lamp, torch, glowing object, etc casted on the model. Hope this helps!
I like your use of fluorescents to enhance normal paints. Regarding the paints, I'm shocked that you say at the end that some colours do not react to UV light. It is the very definition of fluorescence. As good as they might be, they shouldn't label them as fluorescent if they do not absorb UV and emit visible light.
This was useful, thank you. Would you use these to create ghostly effects like LOTR army of the dead?👍👍
You totally could! You can add a little white to the green as well to make it more minty. Or a tiny bit of blue to shift it to teal. Play around with it! I bet it would look great.
@@Zambies Watched 4 of your videos tonight (UK). Really enjoyed them and thanks for replying and teh tip. Subbed.👍👍
I'm looking to try and get a similar color scheme on some models of mine, what base paints are you using for the stump itself?
For the tree stump I primed it in black. Then I used pro acryl Jade over top. A very thing coat through the airbrush. The green areas are building up Jade and Green with a brush.
Oh cool! I happened to pick some up earlier this month, but I haven't played with them yet. Do you have any opinions on Scale 75 Fluorescent paints?
I have honestly never used any Scale 75. Just haven't got my hands on it.
@@Zambies Fair enough! Time for experimentation then! o7
I just bought green stuff worlds Florescent set and the blue doesn't seem that bright in the bottle under UV light but I did a helmet on the backpack of one of my chaos marines in it and it was actually pretty bright in a few coats
Nicely done demos! Just out of curiosity, have you ever found a good fluorescent blue, or all they all bad?
No but I haven’t tried all the brands. I’m sure there is a good one out there.
@@Zambies You kind of hinted that in the video, but I thought I'd ask just in case. Thanks for responding! :)
Can you help me with my whites?. Ive got roscoe, and that french vinyl and guash and tri art........ They all react kinda bright blue even the roscoes the dullest( ive used their color gels in the theatre) I hate titanium dioxide. Even the handy art violet is pink
How do you find the pro acryl vs the high flow, im a huge fan of their paints but i was skeptical cause oter hobby brands flourescents left a lot to be desired on the brush feel side. Vallejo in paticular being a favorite paint brand for me but their flourescents are like painting with toothpaste
I haven't tried the Vallejo ones. Pro Acryl and High Flow are pretty comparable. Both have a nice flow.
@@Zambies Thank you for the reply, I bought the PA one after your comment and to compare it has the flow and brush feel I love about the rest of the PA range without the extreme "gummy" quality i've noticed other hobby brands have. Got the pink to try a nice OSL on a goblin ^^
Question about Monuments Sky blue, Is it also UV Reactive? I'm trynna make Jehuty from Z.O.E and Id love for all the light trails to be a lovely Blue glow
The sky blue is not a fluorescent uv paint. It will not glow sadly. That sounds like a fun project though!
@@Zambies I'll hafta try the Golden ones then! Hopefully also maybe get the Yellow For anubis, and the pink for Dolaris! it'll make a nice display!
Wad and I only play under UV light. It we ain't ravin', we ain't gamin'.
🤣🤣
People say they will eventually lose colour and show what's under.
What is that pumpkin mini? :O
That is the Overgourd from Reaper Miniatures and Art of Mike Disney. It was in their bones 6 set I believe.
Have you noticed any issues with lightfastness?
I haven’t tested this on these paints yet. But this question did come up on another post of mine and Monument Answered: “All fluoro colors will have a bit less lightfastness due to their inherent reactive nature to UV. We did formulate these to worry less about the UV reaction and more about vibrancy and lifespan in normal lighting though.”
@@Zambies They definitely look better than Vallejo ones, less pigment separation
OK I really need to get my eye check up because I read "fluorescent pants, How to use them"
😂😂😂😂😂
For a spilt second I genuinely tired to think of a scenario in which you could use fluorescent pants. 😂
first? also love your face zambies
Try there magenta
Bbeg whos true colours only show under UV light would be sick.
that would be pretty cool!
those escher 🤌
Thank you!
