You did not mention: if you are a SOLE PROPRIETOR of your business, meaning only YOU run it, you are not required to get a tax ID, EIN, or business license, and can use your social security number for tax instead. And this is also from the IRS.

Most cities will require a business license, DBA if operating under a different name for your business, and home business permit/zoning clearance depending on the areas. You need to research your local laws - I do not have information on Italy's business laws. You can register your business to a US address and obtain the US required permits and operate it remotely, but Italyay likely have its own requirements of you to sell to customers there and hold inventory.

Selling a product means you will be required to register for a sellers permit, file and pay sales tax returns, obtain a business license, and register a business name known as a DBA. You will be obligated to claim your income in your end of year tax return, and pay income tax on that income. Plan to set aside about 30% of your income for taxes, in addition to sales tax which differs in each city.

New Sub! Ok i am SUPPER confused. I am trying to set up my shopify as we speak, BUT it is very confusing because i did register my business with a fictitious business name and even got my EIN registered with the IRS. So now the only option that shopify gives under business category is Sole proprietor and LLC, Corp ect.. So when i put in sole proprietor it defaults to only being able to put in my SSN and i do not want to mix my personal with business, that is the whole point on why i got my EIN, to open a business bank account and also have an EIN to separate from my personal taxes. So what should i do? Shopify will not accept my EIN unless i have an LLC.
That's unfortunate, and is a flaw and limitation on Shopify's part. Perhaps consider another e-commerce platform in that case - there's no way to change how Shopify operates

Another qt i have is, if i already registered my Fictitious business name and EIN do i have to contact anyone if i'll be getting an LLC? Do i just let my Fictitious business expire? i feel now like i got it for nothing, the only reason i got it was so that i can show that to my bank with an EIN and get a business bank account opened. @@ginnysilver
It's ok! I actually just had to summit my EIN letter to shopify and request that they use my EIN as an individual instead of my SSN for tax purposes. And it worked! @@ginnysilver
To collect sales tax , YES. Do you need to collect sales tax and have a sellers permit on each state, NO - each state has very different laws and you will need to hold one for some but not others. The best way to monitor this is by using a software such as tax jar

So it sounds like if I anticipate reaching a level of sales based on economic nexus for a given state and they require it I'll need to get a sellers permit in that state first, or can I wait until I do reach that economic nexus level in that state and then get the sellers permit afterwards? I thought you can only use EIN for tax purposes if you have employees otherwise you have to use your SSN? Thats what I read on Reddit.
