I know a lot of kids were disappointed that Quasimodo didn't end up with Esmeralda, but I think it's kind of vital to theme of the movie "What makes a monster and what makes a man?" The actions of Quasimodo (the man) are juxtaposed with that of his master Frollo (the monster) throughout the entire movie to illustrate the point that a person's humanity is not determined by their appearance or social status. The most significant contrast between the two men is how they handle rejection from Esmeralda. Obviously most people in real life don't try to burn their crushes at the stake when they get turned down (like Frollo), but they do often become bitter and resentful. However, even though Quasimodo knows Esmeralda will never love him the way he wants her to, at the end of the movie he still risks his life and defies his master in order to save her - knowing he will receive no benefits out of the situation. That is a true hero and that selflessness is what makes a man. Most Disney movies sort of teach that doing the heroic or right thing will lead to a perfect ending, but The Hunchback of Notre Dame taught you to still do the right thing even if you don't get the perfect ending you desired.
The fact that instead of becoming bitter from Esmeralda's rejection, Quasimodo befriended both her and Phoebus, and was happy to see their mutual love and joy, is greatly heartwarming.

+JJdaPK I'm thinking Phoebus and Esmerelda had a wedding AND their honeymoon in the church. But there still should've been hardened lava or whatever. At least around the steps.
+Emm Green I think that maybe it all died down afterwards.:|
Damn, Clopin has PIPES.
Clopin's riddle is really quite simple when you think about it. What make man is not his face, but his heart and the same can be said about a monster, as Quasimodo was deformed, but was selfless and had a pure heart, whereas Frollo looked normal , but was vile selfish person with evil in his heart. So in the end both got what they deserved, Frollo got an agonizing death, while Quasimodo was accepted in to society and was celebrated as a hero. Quasimodo has always been one of my favorite Disney Heroes and always will be and I loved that he got such a happy ending so I will end this comment with Clopin's line from this scene "Three cheers for Quasimodo!!!!!"
Preach.
A true hero, more than Hercules ever will be.
@@mimic_themenace
LOL he was made to look really harsh and "evil". But yeah he looked normal as in not being deformed. He just had an arrogant/contemptuous expression on ALL the time.
I had forgotten how absolutely epic this movie was.
I always love happy endings.
Especially when LaVerne scared off the birds saying “Don’t you ever migrate?”
Never gets old.
I don't see this as a happy ending, Quasimodo didn't get with Esmeralda, I care more about that then anything else.
@@travisboutilier2220 That seems quite sad for you, was it tiring to post the same comment 87 times?
@@nobrainporcupine No it is not sad, i am not posting the same comment.
I never noticed this before, but at the 2:00 mark, the townspeople below the stairs are 3D-animated. They look like video game characters from a PS1 game. Wow! This is just one of the wonders of watching an 90's movie in 1080p.
I never noticed that until I watched it for like the 26th time
The way the little girl hugs him as the instrumental of "Out There" swells in the background always brings tears to my eyes. 😢☺️
Clopin is the coolest character in the entire film.
And he has the most amazing singing voice.
He’s got amazing lung capacity too; I wish I could hold a note for even half as long as he did at the end there
(cries happy tears)
It's all so wonderful...! The Hunchback of Notre Dame is/always will be one of my favorite Disney films of all time and now you all see why! :'D

I always loved the part of Quasimodo because his heart was as good as gold
I love how they corrected the riddle from the beginning.
It isn't who is the monster or man. It's what makes them.

And Victor and me are crying

"This is the best animated, the best written, the best thought through, and the best sung, Disney picture since Beauty and the Beast." - Roger Ebert
Roger was right
And the same people who directed Beauty and the Beast also directed this masterpiece.
The Lion King and Hunchback of Notre Darme will never be beaten
Oh, my God, I could imagine Quasi giving Esmeralda away and her and Phoebus's wedding, and of course he's the best man. It'd be really sweet.
I'm literally in tears rn
That could've been the plot to the sequel
2:14 it warms my heart by seeing Clopin picking up the little girl right into his arms while he was singing “The Bells Of Notre Dame (Reprise)” concluding the first movie
I just turned 20. I haven't watched this film in over 13 yrs! I wish disney would return to making movies like this again! The movies they produce nowadays are just dull with no meaning at all. This film is a classic material but overlooked
Not fully what about big hero 6.
Big hero 6 was a mess 🤦🏽♀️

@@mayyamonett are kidding me big hero 6 was such a good movie
Such a gentle and triumphant ending with very little dialogue.
i appreciate this scene on such a deep level. quasi realizing that esmeralda loves phoebus + blessing them, quasi finally being accepted by society...all with little to no dialogue.
this! is! why! the! medium! of! animation! is! so! awesome!
This movie is awesome and beautiful with such great deep message. Hero doesn't always gets the girl. What makes a monster and what makes a man. Awesome wording. Animation is beautiful and the songs are amazing.I wish one day it will re-release or something so the newer younger society sees this film and how hard those people worked on it.
The hero should always get the girl, it's outrageous and unfair when they don't. i wish it's changed to Quasimodo ending up with Esmeralda instead of Mr perfection.
@@travisboutilier2220a hero shouldn’t need a girl, he shouldn’t need a reward
Because heroism is about acting whether you’re rewarded or not
And even if I were to agree with you, guess what? A HERO DID get the girl in this movie!
Phoebus was righteous, just, kind, noble, brave, loyal, and true!
You only hate him because he’s not the main character, and he’s good looking, and so he reminds you of every good looking guy who took the girl from you
As if you ever had a shot with those girls to begin with
Maybe if you got away from the keyboard, took a shower, put on some nice clothes, went to the gym from time to time, you’d get girls to like you
Lemme break down why being physically attractive is more important than everyone tells you
Good Looks = Good Hygiene, acne can be prevented by washing your face, and a white smile can only be achieved by taking care of your teeth, a good smell and luscious locks are only obtainable if you clean yourself often
Fit Body = Takes Care of Physical Health, someone can only get a fit body if they go to the gym and have a healthy diet, meaning they take good care of their body
Big Muscles and Athletic Skill = Discipline and Determination! Without discipline and determination, one can never obtain a strong physique, nor the skill required to keep pace with talented and skilled athletes
Learn the deeper meaning behind those surface level traits before you think to judge them, a man like Phoebus may seem near perfection, but there was genuine work behind that perfection
@@logeyperogi1805 A hero should need a girl and should need a reward or it's not worth it being a hero. heroism isn't worth the effort if you're not going to get anything for it. not the hero i wanted to get the girl. I don't care what Phoebus was, he got the girl very easily. Yes i do hate him for all those reasons and i really wanted Quasimodo to get the girl so badly. I did have a chance with them, they just didn't think i was not good enough for them and like handsome jocks more. I can't do those things, I'm disabled.

Very powerful ending! Impressive singing and a sweeping score. Love it. Big choir too
Quasimodo
Disney's best wingman
Meanwhile the actual guys with wings in this movie are ironically the worst at it.
I love this movie so much! The music is just so amazing and I just love the dramatic vibe to it. I watched a lot growing up because my sister was obsessed with Esmeralda

I love how when Quasimodo emerges from the Cathedral to when the Bells of Notre Dame plays, you can hear “Out There” playing because now Quasimodo got what he wanted, to be accepted and apart of the people
I miss this from Disney. The love and care that would go into the classics was astounding. I love this movie the most because of the dark and gothic themes through it. You could never make a movie like this nowadays.
MY CHILDHOOD. I always cry at the ending, its just so beautiful and pure. hunchback of Notre Dame is so underrated, pls talk about it more world
One child making a difference to how people see someone who they see as/think is a monster but is really just as human (even more than) as they are.
Parents should be as understanding and open-minded to learn from their children and what they know.
1:50 this scene really touched me. 🥲
Why? Quasimodo didn't get the girl.
This ending was just beautiful... Alan Menken is a musical genius.
Not to me it doesn't, Quasimodo didn't get the girl, the perfect handsome guy does.
@@travisboutilier2220would you date a hunchback? probably not. attraction is important in relationships truth hurts. and thats the whole point of the story, is what makes a monster and what makes a man, because how frollo handled his rejection compared to qausi was what made him the monster

This movie hits a lot harder as an adult. Anyone else crying at the part where Quasi finally gains acceptance? ;-;
Quasi had the most pure soul!! I'm crying everytime i see the end...It doesn't matter that Esmeralda loved Phoebus..Quasi won her love with his actions..and that counts in the end..❤

two things:
1. I like the movie a LOT more than the book
2. Does anyone else love Clopin's voice?
Yessss Clopin is amazing!
I love Clopin in general lmao he b👌👌
Geezzz that little kid made me cry. 😭
i love this au where they all live happily ever after instead of the actual version. i like the actual version more but seeing all of them happy means the world.
i love that last scene where clopin was playing with the child. it shows how caring he really is now that he knows his people will never have to be wary of frollo ever again. he’s worked so hard for presumably decades in keeping the court safe. he did it all on his lonesome to make sure frollo wouldnt hurt them. and when frollo finally exits, clopin could finally rest easy knowing no one could harm his family he worked so hard to protect : ‘ )
people might see him as sinister from what he displayed in the court of miracles but who wouldnt be. clopin has probably witnessed atleast a dozen of his friends murdered by frollo. keeping his family safe means taking the lives of anyone knows even the slightest clue where the court of miracles was hidden.
I loved it it is really heartwarming
The bit where Esmeralda holds out her hand to quasi ♡ also how quasi joins esmeralda and phoebus' hand :)
WOOWW the detail at 1:20

1:52 BEST part ever !! Of this WONDERFUL film :')
As a young child in an non-English speaking country, I thought the reason Quasi didn't end up with Esmeralda was because their ages were far apart. I thought Quasi was like 15 and Esmeralda was 27 or something. They kept calling Quasi a kid(I was too young and took the word literally) and I was as big as an adult when I was 13... I now see things differently but still love this ending.
Quasi probably has developmental differences.
We'll never know, since his home environment wasn't the best for mental growth.
K I know this is late but I don’t frickin care lmao.
Actually Quasimodo is around 20-21 years old. I say this because earlier in the film (like five minutes before), Frollo says something along the lines of, “I should have killed you 20 years ago,” referencing to when Quasimodo was a baby and Frollo was going to toss him in the well.
So yeah...
I love how through out the movie, you can here the theme of Hellfire and it is dark and foreboding, but in the end it is light and happy.
💕😭the feels + that last musical note is everything
I happen to believe that Pheobus' son became an ice-harvester in Aerendelle…cause Kristoff looks JUST LIKE HIM (just without the beard)
