Thanks for a fire reaction to a fire tune! 🔥
Yes, these guys and girls all are insanely talented (and hard working, I’m sure) people.
Henrik (Bass) once mentioned in an interview that he practices for ‘ease’, staying relaxed in the face of killer riffs :)
This video though isn’t from a live performance, it was produced after they’d done the recording.
In fact, it was shot on two different continents. Cory and his horns (some of them members of Prince’s Hornheads) were recording and filming in the US, Dirty Loops in Sweden.
Aron, their drummer, then later on edited all the footage together, to make it look as though they’re playing on the same stage.
He does all of Dirty Looks’ visual editing.
The whole thing was an initiative of Cory Wong, who approached Dirty Loops and suggested to do an album together. This one, Turbo, is the result. It took place during the COVID years, so none of these folks could travel, meet, rehearse or record together in the same place. Cory and the Loops had in fact never met in person at the time of this collab.
All the music writing, arranging etc. was done via FaceTime, emails and such.
For the filming both bands bought identical props, agreed on the same camera and lighting angles, etc. and the rest is history ☺️
The three other tracks from this album which feature a video, are equally amazing: “Thriller” (MJ cover), “Turbo” and “Ring of Saturn”. So are the rest of the tunes from this album.
“Thriller” would be a great one though for you to check out next :)
    Jonah’s singing 🔥
    Henrik’s bass playing 🔥
    Aron’s drumming 🔥
And then Cory and his horns 🔥🔥🔥

I have to flex a little here 😀A week ago Dirty Loops were playing live in our country (Prague, Czech Republic) and they were amazing. It was a small venue - a music bar, so you could really be in the middle of everything. But after the show the guys came out to meet us and we could chat, take photos and get autographs. They were super approachable, very down to earth, and fun. Great experience.

Cue the standard joke that Dirty Loops is what you get when each musician is the best one.

add the horn players to that statement too. These are absolute top tier players too. Some was Prince's horn players and/or are headlining big international jazz festivals.

Follow this up with the same crew doing Turbo. It's basically a horn section taking no prisoners.

That crazy off-beat syncopation gives it a bounce… it’s awesome.

@@ellenstergaardgravesen1011 although dirty loops adds a second keyboard/background singer to the live performances to cover Johna's self-harmonies in recordings and allow for a second keyboard layer and/or Johna to move around stage. Sometimes they also add a horn section like Cory Wong does. All configurations are great though.

Hey, great reaction! Just an FYI, the guitarist Cory Wong is also featured in the ending theme of Spy X Family S2 by Vaundy called "Todome no Ichigeki" (lit. "Finishing Strike")! He's very prolific and has released dozens of studio album already, 13 as a solo, 4 with The Fearless Flyers and 4 others with various artists incl. one with Dirty Loops here. He's also one of the long time collaborator for the retro/funk band Vulfpeck, the viral band who made the scene for literally booking the entire Madison Square Garden for a concert as an independent group, w/out any sponsor or assistance from a manager or a third party promoter😆

      Great info, thanks 👍
And yeah, Cory is a whole universe unto himself.
      He’s also the nicest guy.
On his ‘Wong Notes’ podcast there’s an interview with Henrik, the bassist from Dirty Loops. Amongst other things they also talk about this crazy collab of theirs ☺️

To me, the hoodie or vest (hoodie here for Henrik) is the dead giveaway. You're so relaxed playing your ass off in front of hot lights, you can be chill in a hoodie! I'd need a SHOWER if I even played on solo in a hoodie under the fan in my living room!

You mean the MJ "Hee-hee"s are the only coincidental style choice in an arrangement where every other note is clearly charted out?
No, this is clearly a tip of the hat.
