Not every Black Belt (in Martial Arts in general) is on the level of a say... a Gracie or Gordon Ryan. Sometimes a Black Belt is someone who is not a great athlete, but has pushed themselves (and their teammates) for years and make the gym/dojo a better place to be. So many people focus on getting in a class and getting a belt. When it should be about the journey.
Rogan got his blue and purple belts when he wasn’t even a celebrity at all. He got his brown belt when he was in show-business but wasn’t like this big time celebrity. He sat at brown belt for an insanely long time compared to most. He’s legit. As far as saying JJM doesn’t give “celebrity” belts? Well, I can tell you for sure Rigan Machado does indeed have separate classes for celebrities, and I think Jean Jacques does as well. I do understand to a point why that is though. Case in point: I train at a gym in Florida, and it’s a legitimate MMA/BJJ gym. We have many amateur fighters and have had a few pros, and we have UFC fighters and other martial artists come in to train. We recently had Mason Fowler and Gillian Roberts. Helio “Soneca” Moreira is our lineage. So, we had a celebrity come in a few times to train, and I don’t recall who it was, but he was well known enough that when a few of us went to town with him to pick up a few things, people kept stopping him for photos. It was fine, he was cool with it. But I do recall that some of our people (we many almost 300 members) wanted to roll with this guy. It was all ok, except for a few people actually seemed to want to HURT him. It was weird. Normally nice people rolling with this guy going way too hard for no reason. He held his own and handled it well but I see why some celebrities might want private lesions or to train with a select group.
Those people who wanted to hurt the celeb have massive egos. They just want a story to tell "Oh I broke XYZ celebrity's arm" hoping they end up with some sort of notoriety. Pathetic pussies
And same point goes for now that Zuck has started training. When new video or article of him training comes up, those cool "leave your ego at the door" and "all are equal in the mats despite where you come for" bjj people are circle jerking in the comment sections and visualising how they would hurt and fuck up Zuck if they get the opportunity to roll with him where they just could appreciate the fact how good it is for the sport in the grand scheme of things.
Calling Rogan not a celebrity when he started training is stretching the truth. He was one of the main characters on a sitcom called NewsRadio from ‘95 to ‘00. He wasn’t a big deal, but he was fairly well known.
@@mulkosilma Zuck might be different. Dude was selling peoples’ information for money and political influence and hiding it and lying about it.
