UPDATE: I finally got around to making my fakellites and damn did it come out super nice! My process wasnt exactly the same as the one in the video but it the foundation of my methods and much of the materials used were based off of it. I wish i could post pics here to show the results. I e posted them in various gun groups i follow and many people were impressed. Some even going as far as wanting to buy some from me. Overall i couldnt have done it without you sir. Thanks again!
This tutorial is seriously helpful and undoubtedly saved my wallet. I will definitely have to buy one or two real bakellites just to have a solid reference when i do this but i already own about a dozen brown Bulgarian AK74 mags. Looks very fun to do as well. I love your results! You cant even tell which one is real and which ones the fake. Thank you so much!
I spend 80 bucks half years ago for a real 762 39 Bakelite in a local FFL. Thank u so much for posting this video. Now I Can turn tons of my polymer mag to fakelite.
Real Russian Bakelites at gun shows in Florida are getting hard if not impossible to find 2023. Prices like you said are $ 125-150. Your Fakelite's are really nice .
Today paid $140 for legit bakelites at the local gun show in VA. Near pristine and were kept oiled/ with preservative. I bought two. Expensive, but at least now I have them. I’m very happy today!!
@@GalacticForceMedia I went to the gun show again yesterday. In the Wash Dc area. Most vendors now selling the original Russian bakelites for $150. Prices continuing to rise.
Twenty or so years ago I ordered a dozen surplus Bakelites I believe from Kvar for about ten dollars a piece and threw them in the safe. It still blows my mind what they are selling for now, I believe the Russians were using surplus for road base at one time.
Great tutorial. I’d like to try to do this with a Yugo polymer furniture set. Unfortunately Yugo AK owners are very limited in our parts compatibility. Even though the M70 is well made, I wish I got a WASR10 instead.
The m70 is a better rifle in every single way, but you should pick up a wasr if you want one as the future of imports both price and availability is always up in the air. Be advised that wasrs do not have mag dimples if you care about that, but the draco does (only buy the Romanian one). I like both for what they are but if you care about finish and quality there really is no beating the Serb.
Went to Home Depot today couldn’t find the crimson one I did find the red oak one though so bought the caramel and red oak along with a Bombay mahogany one idk if that’ll work as a substitute?
Is the red oak stain what makes the mag more brown in appearance? I want to try and make a couple but I’m looking for something more like the second one at 11:48
Great video !! Verry detailed and informative ! I was wondering would you consider making a few that I can purchase ! I'm all in , I really like how origional looking your fakelite looks just like the bakelite magazines ... Please let me know
I have received many requests for this service, however, will not be doing that at that this time. I appreciate the comment and implore you to give it a try!
It really pains me to see Russian AK parts become so expensive. I think most of the stuff was coming from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Ukraine, and Belarus. Now the supply lines from all of those countries have been cut. You use to be able to get Russian bakelite mags and funiture sets for a fraction of what they go for now. Thank god I bought all of that stuff while it was cheap.
cinnamon might be even better than warm caramel, i wish there was a color between the 2 though because cinnamon is pretty orange. I saw a rustolem rust paint the other day at home depot i might go back and get.
Hey brother, how much would you charge me if I wanted to cashapp you the money for 2 of your custom made fakelites for 7.62 x 39? Yours are literally the best on the market besides the original. I've looked EVERYWHERE 😂
If you look at a Izzy Black Plastic 30 Round Mag and look at a Kalashnikov USA 30 round black Plastic mag They are identical The Only Difference is the Markings 313 Until I D-I-E 💯
@@GalacticForceMedia that’s good deal if your patient and watch you’ll always find deals but if u have to purchase one at a particular time you’ll pay up. I personally wouldn’t wanna pay more than 20-25 for one but I like em otherwise I’d want Croatia ? Or Maby Serbia ? The bho steel one that has a loose floor plate. For the $ it’s best and I just bend the mag well bottom out with a hammer handle and the floor plate is tight. I like the bho to tell me it’s empty. My cheap mags like Korea I mod em to bho. Korea is good for the $ Aslong as their the newer one that has the follower stamped properly and will hold the 1st round properly
@@GalacticForceMedia the Chinese mags u mentioned… their knock offs those “chinese “ chicom mags are euro knockoffs the flat back is wrong their not as perfectly smooth as the Chinese their wrong and are selling for 50$ the follower looks sorta right but their obviously fake. Their not transitional as ppl say either their a knockoff
You can get the real ones for 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ at the gun shows, but it’s more of a collectors item, since they dried up with the “war” in Ukraine. Figure the fakies are great for the range.
@@whereisthebalance5732 not a ak! Probably a mossberg clip fed .22 with 1 “magazine” I sold a guy a .22 bolt gun from the 50s last week for 100$ that was a deal. Was single feed pull to cock but super accurate
PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT WE USE MINWAX BURNT SIENNA FOR THIS VIDEO - NOT CRIMSON.
have you tried this same mix on steel mags? would it work or would the paint need to be different?
Adrian Moreno I try to keep it as true to the original, so we haven’t done steel. Some have and there are similar tutorials.
Honestly this is the best fakelite tutorial I've seen on RUclips. Most of the others have the mag being too bright orange with bad brush strokes.
Much appreciated!!!!
Love those bakelites but nothing beats that beat up steel magazine look!
1:23 "It just...it just looks fantastic." 😂 Love your enthusiasm, man. Great vid.
After I did some ak mags, I did an aluminum ar mag. It gets some funny looks and questions at the range
+1👍
Did the finish set just as fine on the metal mag?
Very impressive job making those mags look like the Russian bakelites. Thanks for sharing your know- how.👍

Thank you so much for this, i tried this on some airsoft magazines and it worked great. One of the best fake lite videos on RUclips.

These are fantastic ak mags. I can't believe how underknown these mags are.... I guess that's a good thing though it keeps the price down lol
Wow Amazing results. I might give this a try!
Magpul just needs to start making a retro line.
You would think.
Just purchased 2 Bakelite magazines, $211.85 delivered. I'm gonna' try the staining your process next.
Gun mag warehouse has them plus a 10% off coupon I think.
Having a few bakelites myself, the price is getting ridiculous for sure!

Nice man!! Thatll be a fun project for me and my son.
I made perfect ones that are even better than real ones indistinguishable from real ones and look just gorgeous
Would love to see
That darker first attempt you did is dead on for 601 furniture! Did you use a different color for those?
Sick vid man, you should try and develop a green border guard fakelite recipe with the bulgy mags too. Be really cool
It’s on the radar! Just have to figure out shades
Interesting ima have to try that out nice video :)
Do you think sanding the surface would help with the look and texture of the fakelite?
Never thought about it honestly. May try in the future.
I’m digging that ak Mat
You're a legend. I did mine yesterday and they turned out great.

Fakelite isn’t an exact science. Maybe you’ll have good results!
Is the red oak stain what makes the mag more brown in appearance? I want to try and make a couple but I’m looking for something more like the second one at 11:48
Burnt sienna will give you more red, whereas red oak is more brown.
Hey Brother,Since you have the minwax already, why dont You sell me a couple for 50each?
Is it any Bakelite mags for the ZPAP85 ?
I never saw a 5.56 Bakelite mag, however, you can take a 5.45 Bakelite and swap the follower.

What is the dry time for the stain?
The longer the better. In this case I let it dry overnight and didn’t touch it.

What products do you use?
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
All products are in description
Ok👌👍
Did you refinish the reciever on this Romanian?
Nope, how I purchased it
Question: Is the water based minwax that you put on actually called crimson when you get it mixed?
It’s an actual color you have to have them mix in with the water based tint
You can also try a sample of BURNT SIENNA, as this also could work

Unfortunately, no. I have, however, seen some folks use this method and sell them on the AK47 Facebook page, so see if they are still doing it

30 rd chinese cost about 130-150$ each now so Maby u don’t realize what your saying or have em already. I have a 30 40 100 rd
