  • In this tutorial we take a look at the Motion Tracker in Cinema 4d, we cover the steps we need to take to track the footage, clean up tracks and remove errors, solve the 3d camera, and align our scene. After this we put 3d objects in our scene and correctly light them and composite them with our footage.

    For all those new to c4d like me who came here to find out why their tracking points aren't visible like i did...later i got a solution by simply switching on 2D tracks (i used 2D tracking option in R20 along with this tutorial and search for answers on web but didn't get solution and trainer seems not to "tip" us on that) ...2D tracks button appears similar to full solve button, after pressing "< auto track >" and then you find out you can't see any point, go ahead and press that button, usually in R20 (under motion tracker work-space) it sits below "tracker view"
    Thanks for your tutorial!

What is the problem? Another question: when I try to put an object onto a flat place I can't get proper amount of tracking point. How can I increase them? Or what am I supposed to do? Thank you for response.

    Does the framrate really matter if you have an image sequence? Because I think if you have a sequence you can give it the fps you want, say 25 or 30. Also, I am not sure but in Mocha it is better to have uncompressed files like PNG. JPG is compressed so PNG-Sequence might be a better alternative. Anyway, thanks a lot for your many contributions. I really enjoy and appreciate your style! I learned a lot from you!

    Great tutorial man! Do you know how to composite the GI pass on After effects? Been trying to figure that out

    • @DIGITALMEAT
      @DIGITALMEAT  8 лет назад +8

      +Sociedad Alternativa - yes, you can render out of cinema 4d as a Multi-pass, so you can render out your GI, Reflection, colour, etc . . . . as separate passes. If you don't know how to mix these passes in After Effects (ie, Multiply, add, overlay) don't worry, in your render settings under Save, there is a section called Compositing Project File, click the save check box, and under target application choose after effects, then click Save Project File.
      Cinema 4d will create an After Effects file that will already be set up with your multi-passes in the correct order and the correct blending modes :D

    • @DIGITALMEAT
      @DIGITALMEAT  8 лет назад

      yup, you just choose tracks points on an object and define the axis, it doesn't need to be a floor.

    • @DIGITALMEAT
      @DIGITALMEAT  8 лет назад

      +TomBenBel - maybe your track points are not good enough to solve the camera, did you you get rid of bad track point's using the error threshold? another thing, do you have any moving objects in the footage or a turned on television? if so you're gonna need to mask them out.

    Hi DIGITAL MEAT!
    Did you ever had the Problem that you don't have all the Keyframes in the timeline when you click on the solved Camera??
    I have this big issue that some shots from me work flawless, but some are just problematic when it comes to 3D Solve the camera. It looks like it just stops solving at some Parts in the Video. After the Tracking is done i click on the solved camera and the timeline is not full of "keyframes", what means that the camera is not moving?
    Any Ideas on this Lads? So frustrating!

    • @DIGITALMEAT
      @DIGITALMEAT  3 года назад +1

      If you have segments of your timeline that do not have the keyframes for your solved camera, this means that were not enough good quality tracks in this segment to solve the camera, try adding manual tracks.

      My Axis seems to be in front of the camera. How to get them in the middle of the scene ?

    • @DIGITALMEAT
      @DIGITALMEAT  5 лет назад

      you need to add your constraints to the tracker points first, these constraints determine where world zero is, and what XYZ are. As for the Axis, the axis on screen is just the axis of the motion tracker object when it is selected

    • @miph00

  • @natevplas
    @natevplas 6 лет назад

    At 15:00 you show how to do the Planar Constraint. I'm following along in R18 and when I add the tag, all the tracking points disappear. I can't get them to show up when I'm editing the triangle's points, so it won't make a selection. Have you tried this?

    • @DIGITALMEAT
      @DIGITALMEAT  6 лет назад

      make sure the tag is on the correct object and you have the motion tracker selected

    • @natevplas
      @natevplas 6 лет назад +1

      Ok, of course I solve it just after I post. But for others running into this, you have to figure out which nulls (created with the 3D solve process) you want to use for the triangle. Then drag those nulls into the Selection field in the Planar Constraint tag. Not sure why they made this feature clunkier in R18, but there you have it.

    Hi, Thanks for the tut. Im having a nightmare with the motion tracker camera not moving once solved. To begin with its already created with a protection tag, in all the tuts Ive seen as soon as the motion tracking is solved the camera moves around in the perspective view when you scrub. Is it something to do with mettings? Ive tried multiple shots with different lighting etc, but the camera is just frozen.

    • @DIGITALMEAT
      @DIGITALMEAT  6 лет назад

      If your Camera is not moving after a solve that means you didn't have enough tracking points or the quality of those points were not good enough.

    • @smyrkphace
      @smyrkphace 6 лет назад

      Appreciate the quick reply, It still seems weird to me though because Ive tried 6 different clips now with varied amounts of trackers, tried lowering the error threshhold etc. Manual tracking doesnt want to stick to marks on surfaces at all. Is there a clip that you know that works somewhere that we could troubleshoot with? The last solve I ran had 2000 trackers and theyre mostly green in the perspective. I can align the axis to the floor but when I do that the camera just stays where it started... what am I missing... anything related to render settings?

      @DIGITALMEAT  8 лет назад

      +kuunami - Ok, I chose points that were being tracked on the floor but in 3D space these points were not flat like a ground plane so i chose the Y direction because Y is up in cinema 4D, this makes all the point that exist on the floor in the footage also exist on a flat plane in 3D space. does that help at all?

    • @kuunami
      @kuunami 8 лет назад

      DIGITAL MEAT I think I understand. The ground is the Y plane in 3D space because In 3d space, a plane is named after which axis passes through it.

      You probably need to filter out more inaccurate trackers, then use the Planar Constraint tag

    I love the tutorial but I seem to have one problem.
    Whenever I create the background object, it creates the background. In the tutorial it shows that the background changes depending on what frame you are in so the background is correct.
    Whenever I create the background object, the background just seems to be 1 frame. So whenever I scrub through and hit render at a random frame, there will be a rendered picture but it won't be the matching background with the frame that I am in.
    I hope you can understand my problem and help me out!

    • @DIGITALMEAT
      @DIGITALMEAT  8 лет назад

      did you create the background manually or did you do it by pressing the "create background Object" button in the motion tracker?

    • @DIGITALMEAT
      @DIGITALMEAT  8 лет назад

      it's ok, all you have to do is open the material that was created when you pressed the "create background object" button, then under all the channels ie color etc, click editor, inside that there is a check box called animate preview, make sure it's checked and let me know if that works.

    • @DIGITALMEAT
      @DIGITALMEAT  8 лет назад

      This is easily solved, if you go to 18:10 in the video you will see i'm using the Vector Constraint Tag, underneath axis there is a drop down length, so if you choose two points either end of an object you know the length of you can input that value here, that will set the scene scale :D

      If you mean for tracking, i'd stick with one of them. If you mean for render quality, you can always improve the look in post.
