Since I have a greenhouse I helped my two teenaged granddaughters with a successful tomato start business. We bought most of the seeds at Dollar Tree (75-85 seeds per 25 cent package). They learned to plant seeds, pot up seedlings, and explain all the different varieties to customers. They earned over $800 apiece! Then they got tired of selling and I gave away a considerable amount.

That's so awesome Carolyn...that's exactly the way to do it too! Although I can't imagine a world where two teenagers are going to get tired of $800 in their pockets from just a little side gig! LOL. :-)

I love when hobbies turn into a business, I was able to do that in my own life (Not garden related) and it is one of the most fulfilling things you can do. I would LOVE to offset some of the garden costs by doing one or two things mentioned in the video. I guess it depends on how big you want to go, but even selling 10 or 15 tomato plants could buy me all the seed for a season. (I'd probably spend it on dirt though lol)
Actually, before I started watching your videos, I never thought about selling starter plants or plugs, and after you mentioned it in one of your other videos, it really got the gears turning.

I agree Tekedi....its the perfect intersection of passion and productivity....its when we work our best! Starter plants is EASILY the most lucrative. At $2 each on a roadside stand, you'll send hundreds in the first 3-5 weeks of the season. Pot up the ones that don't sell and charge $10 each for them a couple months later for the patio growers!

I’m not producing at a consistent level yet. It’s my 2nd year so I’m still learning the ins and outs

Jeff, I remember my dad always had a big garden plot. Growing lots of veggies. After giving away excess harvest to friends and neighbors, nothing left to sell. I’m the same way. Great info for others. Keep it going!

Thank you Jeff. Your the 3rd one to discuss local line. It looks like an amazing platform for the farm community. I harvest and store, but seedlings sale may try out the tool. Great idea about selling seeds too. Appreciate the coupon code!

Thanks Kittie...I say try the free option first. Grow from there. Could be lucrative if done right, best of luck! 🙂

That's a very interesting vid. I only grow a few fruit and veg, enough for my myself and my wife, but I do grow a few semi tropical and exotic plants suitable for growing in the UK which I'd like to sell, so this has been very helpful.👍🙂

I agree Tassie...it was fun to explore the other side of gardening...the business end and local food supply. Fun to look at even if we don't all go that route with our gardens. 🙂

That's a cool tool, and some great ideas. I'm hoping to start selling things in the next year or so. I'd like to sell starts, cloned fruit trees/bushes, and some lumber. Now I'm thinking about seeds...

Your cross pollinated tomato seeds freaked me out! How can you be sure what seeds you (anyone) are even selling? What if you sell the wrong seeds?

What product do you find sells easily? i am thinking of growing 40 dwarf sunflowers in 1 gallon fabric pots, suitable for containers and selling them for $15 each? Also, wondering if there is a market for garlic scapes? I will be using your code, thanks. Feedback is much appreciated.

Tomato and pepper starters easily sell the best.....then when things go in the big pots, cucumbers and zucchinis take over.

So ripe tomato farms only has this one video? All to push this product, and not actually a success story? With a guy in a beanie who's every inflection is upwards?
