This review was originally posted in August 2012, and was the second installment of Snipes Month, following One Night Stand. This recut version loses 1m 12s from it's original running time, mostly from tightening the pacing and cutting down film clips; the closing credits song has also been replaced. I'm sure people will ask about two things: no, I don't hate Ryan Reynolds, I just found him obnoxious and out-of-place in this movie. And Abigail wearing earphones during a fight scene is far stupider than doing it in a car chase (like in Baby Driver). Anyway, hope you enjoy!
Abigail wearing earphones during a fight scene is pretty daft, but I honestly think it could've worked if there was maybe a reason for it (like in Baby Driver or Preacher, which used this idea to much better effect) or we actually heard a good song playing while she was fighting. Maybe.
I'm curious about your assessment of Dominic Purcell. As regards this movie, I totally agree with it. But, have you seen him as Mick "Heatwave" Rory in the Legends of Tomorrow? He is actually one of the most popular characters on the show, if not in the whole DCW. Ironically, because of his charisma and acting skills.
I've not seen any of Heroes of Tomorrow, mostly because it's paywalled on Sky. I mostly only know him from Prison Break, and his small role at the start of Equilibrium.
Hey buddy. Your videos entertained me and kept me positive in very dark days. My health issues don't even sound real. 4 open heart surgeries. Defibrillator implanted. Colon cancer. A stroke and brain bleed that left to the top of my skull being removed. A month long induced coma and a need to relearn to walk and use my left hand. Anyway, you helped me in some small way with these humorous, not serious, entertaining reviews. Thank you my friend. I wish health, happiness and a long life to you!!
Sorry to hear about your health woes, and I'm glad to hear my videos provided some comfort in what sound like very trying times. Thank you for your support, and I admire your strength, it can't have been easy. Wishing you health and happiness in return. :)
I do wonder how long that will last though. Reynold's has shown that Deadpool is pretty much the only character he can do well. So either he'll be screwed once Deadpool they stop making Deadpool movies. Or he'll be like Jackman and play the one character until he's to old to do it anymore.
This movie is so bad that I consider it to be non-canon. Killing of Whistler was pointless, and kinda invalidates his storyline from Blade 1 and 2. And that whole vampire genocide virus comes off as wrong to me when they spent Blade 2 showing that not all vampires are evil.
Oh, it exists. However, I could see a very reasonable argument for it being non-canon and an alternate universe from the first two movies given its extreme departure from Blade's personality, motivations, and perceptions. Blad in this movie is exceedingly different from the last two, thus could be construed as a different iteration of the character.
I hated the fact that after he survives getting the shit beaten out of him by vampires in Blade 1 Whistler sacrifices himself to save Blade from human FBI agents who catch him 2 seconds later anyway. And wasn't Blade supposed to be able to tell the difference between familiars and vampires so the vampires plan to make Blade look like a serial killer shouldn't have worked.
Exactly. At least half of the movie's conflict, which is lazily resolved............was built on a CHARACTER ERROR! Who WRITES like that(*cough*Goyer)?!
If I remember right, in the comics, didn’t the Nightstalkers consist of Blade, Ghost Rider and Dr. Strange? What a movie that would have been in 2004...
A LOT of this movie's problems could be solved by making things good for Blade at the beginning. Have it that Blade is killing vampires left and right so the vampires are cornered and fewer in number. Now it makes seance to bring back Dracula, and explains Snipes being a jackass. Introduce the Nightstalkers as wanting to join Blade but he's to high on his ego to give them the time of day. Then have Balde's ego bite him when Dracula kicks his ass and Whistler dies trying to save him. Whistler gets to go out like a bad ass and Blade's ego takes a huge hit. With Whistler dead Blade goes to the Nightstalkers for help. Here you can then explain Snipes still being an ass as a result of his shattered ego and guilt over Whistler's death. The Nightstalkers work with Blade to make a serum to take out Dracula, with a noted potential side effect being it taking out all other vampires, but obviously need Dracula's DNA to make it work. Cue Dracula coming in and the Nightstalkers show off their skill and help Blade fend Dracula off. Hannibal gets catapulted in the raid, Abigail gets some of Dracula's blood, they finish the formula and then go to rescue Hannibal and kill Dracula.
I hate this film with a passion. It ruined the Blade character, it rehashes previous storylines, the fight choreography is garbage and badly edited, and most of all: the villains absolutely suck. With the sequels, you want the villains to be bigger and better than the previous films with goals that make sense. Trinity was a giant step back with that. In the first movie you had Deacon Frost. An ambitious, machiavellian young vampire who wanted to update the dated policies of the vampire nation and lead them into the modern era. In the second movie you had Jared Nomak. The black sheep of the Damaskinos family, the overlord of the vampire nation. He was the prototype of the Reaper strain, which turned people into vampire predators. Nomak was an exceptional warrior and was Blade’s equal in strength as well as goals as like Blade, he wanted to eliminate vampires but in the process created a strain worse than the vampire race. The villains in Trinity were a bunch of bush league, incompetent, nonthreatening, disorganize scrubs. Danica was so over the top, she was pretty much a SNL character in a action horror movie. Her brother was forgettable and was pretty much a glorified extra, triple H was an oaf, and Dracula was a boring, non threatening, pussy who wasn’t even a match for Blade. Hell, and the sword fight between the two, blade was toying with him. Even the legendary Dracula was getting dicked around by a half breed.
The monster King Man he has terrible luck with superhero movies prior to that. Although mind you that stupid opening narration honestly does kind of sound like something Deadpool would come up with should he fight vampires

Oh man, Blade Trinity was bad. I hated so much about this. Especially Abigail and how she listens to music while hunting vampires. Girlfriend, the vampires will be able to sneak up on you! You need to leave the iPod at home! I'm hoping now that Marvel has the film rights back, Disney will ease up on not making R-rated movies, and we can get a reboot. One that keeps to the fact that Eric was born in 1929 Soho, London. Because in the comics it's canon that Captain America fought vampires working for Hitler. And Blade would've been a teen during part of WWII. So we could totally have things like Blade fighting Nazi vampires alongside the Howling Commandos. Yes it's hilarious! The DVD cover sucks, why not just use the theatrical poster? It looked a lot cooler(and way more deceptive) and actually made it look like a good movie......which it ain't lol!
You know. I think a more open ended ending where that happens and Blade secretly heads off into the sunset with his new friends to try & find a cure for it would've been better in my book.
I remember seeing somewhere the writer of this film saying his original plot was meant to revolve around the blood farm and how the vampires were kidnapping people for the farm. The studio supposedly told the writer they wanted a bigger foe like Dracula and they wanted to attempt to grow the franchise by adding the Darkstalkers for a hopeful spin-off franchise. Wesley Snipes supposedly specifically hated the addition of the Darkstalkers to the franchise.
I've noticed that since the Deadpool movies came out, some people tend to lose their sh*t if you criticize Ryan Reynolds' performance and/or character in this movie. Reynolds worked in Deadpool and its sequel because he was delivering witty metatextual gags in a storyline designed around that kind of humour. Reynolds didn't work in this film, because he was playing a character who was blurting out sex and fart jokes in what was previously a grim and gritty vampire franchise.
Killing off Whistler for a second time completely took me out of the movie and proved that this was going to be a terrible installment. While Dracula is an interesting choice to be the main antagonist, especially with the idea of old vs new, the way they went about the character was just bad. The only part that I did like was the sequence of the FBI raiding the suite after Blade and Dracula's battle. Something about the music and lack of noise created a different tone and atmosphere.
The Ponderer That scene with him getting tortured is totally Deadpool. It's funny how he hates him in this movie. I'm gonna go watch his Deadpool review after this.
shadowspider9 saying he plays pretty much the same character in all his work, I think you've probably only seen a few of his movies. He's had plenty of great serious roles in films like; The Captive, Smokin' Aces, Safehouse, Buried, Selfless... I recommend checking those out.
You really need to be careful what you wish for. Not only was her master plan in Josie and the Pussycats beyond lame, but she was reduced to basically being Miss Teschmacher 2.0 in Superman Returns. And when Blade: Trinity of all things respects and utilizes her talents much better than either of those two movies... well, that's just sad.
Yeah, but that's not her fault! Poor Parker...I guess she just has a bad agent. :/ I just saw on imdb that she plays Dr. Smith in an upcoming remake of the Lost in Space series. Hope it's gonna be good!
When I first saw this I couldnt believe how god-awful and cringeworthy it was compared to the first two. I like Ryan Reynolds and I don't mind Jessica Biel but they were both pretty terrible in it. I was surprised to see Paul "Triple H" Levesque the retired pro wrestler in it, he only had a minor role but he wasn't the worst part of this by far. Wesley Snipes' ego and piss-poor attitude contributed to it's overall badness in a major way. Blade one and two were really cool and entertaining, this was just shit!
I just watched Blade Trinity for like the 100th time and while it does have many problem, for me mostly Ryan Reynalds, I dont see why people outright hate it. I am a HUGE blade fan and I have been watching the movies ever since I was a kid and I just cant understand the extreme hate for this movie. Well I'm here to find out... Edit: Ok 10 minutes into the video and I can see why people don't like this movie but my opinion still isn't changed... 2nd Edit: Ok 20 minutes in and I realize that I must have been brainwashed by all the badass shit in the movie to make me think that it's a good movie when it isn't. I still like it though so I'll call it a guilty pleasure...
In the comics Drake wasn't actually Dracula or a villain of the Nightstalkers. In fact, Drake in the comics was actually a MEMBER of the nightstalkers!
never ever have i said to myself..... i wish to watch a blade movie, and reached for Blade Trinity. in fact last time i saw Blade Trinity, was me dropping the disk on the floor and kicking it under the entertainment system shelving. i should retrieve it,.,, and go leave it at a bus stop.
I watched this movie for the first time only a few years ago after binging the all three. I loved the first two but by the time they revealed "Dracula" hidden in the pyramid I was already groaning. The only part I remember being good was the part where drake murders goths in the store. Everything else was garbage. Even more so since hanibal king was pretty cool in the comics as well as a good vampire plus Dracula! The king/god of the vampires is little more than a buff lackey in a stupid outfit to a bunch of dud villains.
This film was a complete mess and it shows in the crappy final product. Can anybody tell me if this dumpster fire is canon? I don't believe so and hope not.
If you watch Spider-Man The Animated Series episode 48 - The Vampire Queen you know what you going said that why didn't they use this plot for this episode and use it for Blade Trinity it could have been great so watch episode 48 - The Vampire Queen because I consider to be the real Blade Trinity..
FilmBrain: "And quit picking on Patton Oswalt anyway. He's funnier than you (Ryan Reynolds) are." (When the Deadpool films come out.) Me: You were saying?
This movie is one of my biggest guilty pleasures. It's bad... Oh, it's bad. But for some reason, I still get a kick out of it, and I always end up watching it whenever I re-watch the first two. Maybe it's because I was a dumb teenager when I first saw it, so I kinda have nostalgia for it? Who knows. But knowing about all the drama that went on behind the scenes does explain why it always seemed a bit "off" whenever I've watched it.
I was a teen myself when I saw this and I have some nostalgia for it but man.....it is a pile of SHIT! WTF were they thinking? Wesley and Kris were so wooden a woodpecker could give a better performance from it.
The weird thing is, most of the people I know who are fans of the series actually got into it because they saw this movie first. Usually on cable or renting it on a whim back in the day. So I'll give the movie some credit- I know several people who became fans of the first two (you know, the actual good ones) because of it.
Great review. You are funny. The movie was bad. It was so bad I had to look up a review to see things I probably missed. The one thing I hate the most is the ending of the boss scene. Time flies when I see you in 2012 to now.
With Deadpool and Wolverine and Ryan and is Superhero royalty and snipes reclames his honor and thinks hmthat there's going to only be one blade. Deadpool didn't want to let him down.
GOD, those first two movies really are phenomenal. And in completely different ways. I'll always remember this as being the first huge disappointment for me for a theatrical film. I'd seen bad movies before, I'd even seen movies that I liked at the time and disliked upon reflection, but this was the first time I can vividly remember going to a theater with friends, sitting through movies, and saying almost nothing to one another until we sat down for post-theater burgers and I just broke the silence saying, "So...that kinda sucked, right?" Fun fact! In Blade II, David S. Goyer and Snipes got along incredibly well, so much so that Guillermo Del Toro recorded a separate commentary track in which he basically dunks on and shits on Goyer non-stop. And Goyer and Snipes record one together as well! So they went from buddy-buddy to death threats and accusations of racism within the space of 1 movie.
Ehhh a lot of third movies are bad. Alien 3 was garbage, Matrix Revolutions was bad, Godfather 3 was ughhhhhh yikes....Jurassic Park 3, Jaws 3 and so on and so on. For every legendary third part like Lord of the Rings: Return of the King you'll find multiple garbage third movies in other franchises.
tons of fans seem to love Blade II, as much if not more than the first one. I personally didn't care for it. I started to tune out around the time of the first exposition scene after that action scene with the reveal of the elite vampire squad or whatever. maybe it was the cg. maybe it was because I was being asked to buy a homeless guy with a cgi "alien vs predator" face as the main threat (not that steven dorf was some ultimate evil, he was just a devious young punk who tried to take over a gang basically, and blade kicked his butt, which he would have done anyway, the only reason he had any trouble was because the bad guy cheated with magic). blade isn't a perfect movie, but it's still way more enjoyable than the sequels. "Trinity" just feels like a fan film. honestly though this is coming from a non-marvel fanboy who never read the blade comics, so ignore my opinion, if you want! ;)
6:40 lol... Did you forget what happens in the OG Blade? I'm pretty sure he never damn a damn about anything. 1. attack on the hospital 2. beating the fuck out of a cop in broad daylight on the busy city streets 3. Getting into a shootout with frost in broad daylight, in the middle of the city, almost getting a young girl killed. He will kill vampires anywhere.
They could have easily made this a stand alone Nightstalkers film, and gave Blade a proper send off. Fuck everyone for blaming Snipes for not being a company man on this. Blade vs Morbius should have been the ending.
Not nearly as hilarious as the one about Dwayne Johnson prior to his comeback in the Doom video. Technically speaking, with this, Wolverine, and Green Lantern (all released before this video was made in 2012), he's still 3 to 1 on that track record.
Soon to be 3 to 2 considering Deadpool 2. Plus the depiction of Deadpool in origins I doubt was Ryan's fault considering that the movie's tone was just not made for Deadpool at the very most and at the very least Ryan was given a poorly written version of the character
What pisses me off most about this movie is they make out like Dracula.. sorry..Drake, is this absolute beast, the original, the first of his kind, an actual threat for Blade but in comparison to Deacon Frost & Jared Nomak from the first two movies he's comes across a complete pussy. Looks like a catalogue model and in his first confrontation with Blade he fucking runs away! What! The only part he looks slightly menacing is the end sword fight when he switches to his demonic looking true form. Also hes dispatched of rather easy, the reapers in Blade 2 was a lot harder to kill than he was. Imo I think Reynolds is probably the best thing about the movie, at least he looks like he's having fun with the character.
Honestly I don't hate on this movie as much as most, it's not a good movie exactly, but if there's nothing on I can mindlessly watch. that being said I'm glad Marvel Studios has the Blade rights back and hope they integrate him into the MCU, preferably in the form of a Netflix series (since they tend to get away with more then the movies) however I prey that whatever form the Blade reboot takes that Snipes is not involved in any way. he had his chance now he's done. I don't want this series being reconned into the MCU (which is what Snipes is apparently trying to convince Marvel to do)
The studio from wht I read IMDb also interfered with prdouction and I think ofred reshoots to get a a pg 13 rating to get the series to compete with other marvel franchises like x men or spider man
That and the star and director hated each other because the star thought the director was racist and the director thought the star was lazy. And David Goyer has written two good scripts, the original Blade and Batman Begins, notice what movie isn't on that list.
Its honestly so jarring when you compare this film to the previous installments and see the quality drop. Maybe they should of went with a different director instead of making david s goyer direct it.
Apparently Goyer wasn't keen on directing it either but he inherited it after others turned it down [allegedly due to Snipes being difficult to work with] and Blade 2 director Del Toro was doing the first Hellboy film.
Dear fucking christ, this man's voice makes me want to take a belt sander to my ears. That said, your humor is pretty successful, and I can tolerate it whilst high. 80/10 - IGN

Speaking of Ryan Reynolds, what are your thoughts on the 2011 Green Lantern movie and do you plan on covering it at some point?
Abigail wearing earphones during a fight scene is pretty daft, but I honestly think it could've worked if there was maybe a reason for it (like in Baby Driver or Preacher, which used this idea to much better effect) or we actually heard a good song playing while she was fighting. Maybe.

I miss these reviews
Killing off Whistler for a second time completely took me out of the movie and proved that this was going to be a terrible installment. While Dracula is an interesting choice to be the main antagonist, especially with the idea of old vs new, the way they went about the character was just bad. The only part that I did like was the sequence of the FBI raiding the suite after Blade and Dracula's battle. Something about the music and lack of noise created a different tone and atmosphere.
Honestly, kinda feels like Reynolds is just kinda playing Deadpool in this movie...
The Ponderer That scene with him getting tortured is totally Deadpool. It's funny how he hates him in this movie. I'm gonna go watch his Deadpool review after this.
That's pretty much ALL he ever plays. I like Reynolds as Deadpool. But as an actor Deadpool is the ONLY role he's ever been able to do well.
shadowspider9 saying he plays pretty much the same character in all his work, I think you've probably only seen a few of his movies. He's had plenty of great serious roles in films like; The Captive, Smokin' Aces, Safehouse, Buried, Selfless... I recommend checking those out.
shadowspider9 He does a good job as Van Wilder
Reynolds has always been playing deadpool his whole career
At least Dominic Purcell has Legends of Tomorrow now.
Wild to see Paton Oswald in this flick. I've seen him twice live in my town and he was hilarious.
I always loved BMB, even if you never bring it back, I would love to see you reviewing Asylum films again.
I *really* liked Parker Posey in this movie. She was so over the top, but she pulled it off somehow. I wish she was a villain in more movies... :(
You really need to be careful what you wish for.
I just saw on imdb that she plays Dr. Smith in an upcoming remake of the Lost in Space series. Hope it's gonna be good!
She's always been this crazy since Scream 3.
1:02-1:34 That is one of the most '90s things I've ever heard.
26:18 clearly CGI eyes LUL he couldn't even be bothered to open his eyes!
good thing Ryan Reynolds has redeemed himself and Dominic Purcell is one of the best parts of Legends of Tomorrow
And thus, Ryan Reynolds and Patton Oswalt were banished from Marvel Comics adaptations forever.
Where have you been?
@@majorfanboy2005 I was joking lol
9 years before Purcell starred in the masterpiece Vikingdom. I had no idea he was also in a Blade movie.
Turns out, The Nightstalkers hunt a Werewolf next. I'm not joking.
Damn
God this movie sucks.
Hey in all fairness Ryan Reynolds is the best part of Blade Trinity and in all fairness Deadpool is the spin off his character needed
Patton no! Now who's gonna help linguini cook?
In the comics Drake wasn't actually Dracula or a villain of the Nightstalkers. In fact, Drake in the comics was actually a MEMBER of the nightstalkers!
This flick got it's ass kicked by The Punisher.
never ever have i said to myself..... i wish to watch a blade movie,
and reached for Blade Trinity.
in fact last time i saw Blade Trinity, was me dropping the disk on the floor and kicking it under the entertainment system shelving. i should retrieve it,.,, and go leave it at a bus stop.
He's funnier than you (Ryan Reynolds) are."
(When the Deadpool films come out.)
Me: You were saying?
Funny thing is it wasn't for this film Ronald Reynolds would have never been Deadpool
I'm starting to think any 3rd installment of any past marvel film is cursed.
@Naquin Green I like Spider-Man 3.
Great review. You are funny. The movie was bad. It was so bad I had to look up a review to see things I probably missed. The one thing I hate the most is the ending of the boss scene. Time flies when I see you in 2012 to now.
16:47 NATASHA LYONNE IS IN THIS?! This was a whole decade before she was Gaz Digby and Smoky Quartz!
Cute pfp, character and anime?
Also, Patton. Honey. WHY!?
There was also ANOTHER ending where the Nightstalkers go and hunt werewolves now
With Deadpool and Wolverine and Ryan and is Superhero royalty and snipes reclames his honor and thinks hmthat there's going to only be one blade. Deadpool didn't want to let him down.
GOD, those first two movies really are phenomenal. And in completely different ways.
I'll always remember this as being the first huge disappointment for me for a theatrical film. I'd seen bad movies before, I'd even seen movies that I liked at the time and disliked upon reflection, but this was the first time I can vividly remember going to a theater with friends, sitting through movies, and saying almost nothing to one another until we sat down for post-theater burgers and I just broke the silence saying, "So...that kinda sucked, right?"
Fun fact!
0:46, Which anime related movie did he review?
It wasn't an anime film, it was Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch that Bennett the Sage forced them to review.
At least Eureka and Stargate Atlantis got some props out of this with the giant dressed up shotguns.
Maven is a perfect assistant for Vampire lore.
tons of fans seem to love Blade II, as much if not more than the first one. "Trinity" just feels like a fan film.
honestly though this is coming from a non-marvel fanboy who never read the blade comics, so ignore my opinion, if you want! ;)
You’re a clown
One of your best reviews, Matthew. This and your Die Another Day are your best when ripping apart a shit sequel like this.
My best guess is that Ryan Reynolds is in this movie is in reality just Deadpool trolling the whole thing
6:40 lol... Did you forget what happens in the OG Blade? I'm pretty sure he never damn a damn about anything.
1. attack on the hospital
2. beating the fuck out of a cop in broad daylight on the busy city streets
3. Getting into a shootout with frost in broad daylight, in the middle of the city, almost getting a young girl killed.
He will kill vampires anywhere.
A Maven crossover, awesome!
Why did the 2nd reviewer show up at the halfway point?
It was a little cameo, because she had recently reviewed the original Blade when this first came out.

So…Doctor Strange vs Dracula: The Montesi Formula?
I don't know if anyone mentioned this but I don't think viruses work that way
Ryan Reynolds said he never met wesly snipes he only met blade lol
They could have easily made this a stand alone Nightstalkers film, and gave Blade a proper send off. Fuck everyone for blaming Snipes for not being a company man on this. Blade vs Morbius should have been the ending.
Wasn't Morbius in a deleted scene from the 1st film. I think Blade sees Morbius watching him from a roof.
I think you managed to piss off my chemical romance fans everywhere. Worth it! 😂
Stop goofing around Blade!
Bonus if you get this reference
What?
The comment about Ryan is outdated, considering Deadpool
...And I just recognised Dracula as Heatwave
Not nearly as hilarious as the one about Dwayne Johnson prior to his comeback in the Doom video.
Technically speaking, with this, Wolverine, and Green Lantern (all released before this video was made in 2012), he's still 3 to 1 on that track record.
Don't forget R.I.P.D. That's also based on a comic book, from what I've heard.
Soon to be 3 to 2 considering Deadpool 2. Plus the depiction of Deadpool in origins I doubt was Ryan's fault considering that the movie's tone was just not made for Deadpool at the very most and at the very least Ryan was given a poorly written version of the character
You assume people care about RIPD
Oh, yes, of course, R.I.P.D.! I'm surprised I forgot that I've been considering reviewing it.
So 4 to 1, then.
is there a link to the 1st review?
It is in the video end card. First review was One Night Stand.

I'm surprised they didn't have a scene where he Pedigreed Ryan Reynolds.

12:07 That's kind of weird, Film Brain is looking at his fingers, I think he made a little mistake of something, I don't it looks weird to me.
Biel chopped off Leatherface's arm. I think a feat like that gives her a Break.
Blade 3. Narrated by Deadpool
Ryan is wrong... van Helsing was Dutch, not British
My unpopular opinion I love this trilogy and will always see Wesley snipes as blade
I don't want this series being reconned into the MCU (which is what Snipes is apparently trying to convince Marvel to do)
Already, this long ago, an utter ignorance of what “begs the question” means.
But nowadays NOBODY uses it for its original meaning,
My favorite part was Triple H beat the heck out of Ryan cause at the time he was still wrestling
Down goes the game!
@@scottylewis8124 yeah even in the ring he still kicked butt

That's so funny I call him Van Wilder also. I personally do not like Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool is essentially Ryan Reynolds in every other movie.
13:10 he is right
The studio from wht I read IMDb also interfered with prdouction and I think ofred reshoots to get a a pg 13 rating to get the series to compete with other marvel franchises like x men or spider man
That and the star and director hated each other because the star thought the director was racist and the director thought the star was lazy.
And David Goyer has written two good scripts, the original Blade and Batman Begins, notice what movie isn't on that list.

I liked it in parts. My review is linked on this video.
The night stalkers? They're ripping off Darkstalkers!
