As someone who enjoyed the Alphafly 2 (just fits my feet better than v1 and still had enough bounce for me 🤷♂️), I’m happy that the third iteration got your approval.
@@2011hwalker I’m a competitive age-grouper and my last marathon (Boston last April) wouldn’t technically fit your requirements, but age-graded it’s sub-3 by a good 15+ minutes. Would you find that embarrassing? I’m always looking for a shoe that not only allows me to maximize my potential on race day (only, other than testing) but gets me to the finish line with my muscles and joints in better condition.
I cannot fault my Alphafly 2’s. They are absolutely incredible. Have propelled me to multiple PB’s and much less effort and fatigue. Never owned the 1’s. Looking forward to buying the 3’s.
My wife is going to kill me because I've spent so much money on running shoes over the last few years, but I am morally obligated to pick up a pair of these.
Nice Review I think the only shoe that is as good as the Alphafly v1 is the Saucony Elite. However, the wider fit fits me much better in the Elite. However, the Alphafly 3 will be interesting again for me when the "Arch" is no longer there. How do you find the Elite in comparison? I love the aggressiveness of these shoes but I can understand if that's too much for some.
Hey Megan and Thomas thanks to your reviews on the AF 1 and AF 2 for the last 3 yrs , I have 13 boxes of the AF 1thanks again . Been running since 1984 and paid $62 for Nike Air Max , love my AF 1 daily running shoe for sprint triathlons and 5ks . No need for the AF3 , AF1 serves my needs , daily . UPDATE9/19/24 Doing Duathlons and AF3 coming in , again , will only use AF3 for my races, AF1 training . I always tell people to check your site before u buy a shoe .
I'm liking the way the new one is looking so far. Unfortunately I couldn't run in the last one because way to narrow and the arch pinched the life out of my foot. And plus I've seen so much how those shoes tear apart so quickly. But I did come across the Saucony endorphin elite and omg they felt way faster and better to me
Love the AF2’s have three pairs m, wear them for everything. Lots of PB’s, road 50k, marathons, hills, everything. I never owned the 1’s though so I have no comparison. Looking forward to buying these next month.
Thanks for the review. Nike recommends this shoe for running ultras. Specifically for road 100 mile races, what's your take on how these shoes would perform at slower paces, 11 to 12min/mi and walking breaks?
Thomas I also had a poorly glued insole that caused a nasty blister on my right 🦶 in the AF3. At $300 that was disappointing and not the first time I’ve had this with a Nike.
I never had AF1. I am running 5K mostly. AF2 is ungodly uncomfortable, i have to use k-tape in few spots. It takes me 5 minutes to get my feet prep and in. It is a very stable shoe and it is a very fast shoes, very good for street but I also like it for wide trails (some gravel). AF3 is WAY more comfortable, no doubt but it feels less bouncy, feels very flat. For me under the same environment, 5k is 25 seconds slower and it takes more effort about 5bpm higher. It almost feels like it AF3 might be better at faster pace I am running at 7-7.5 miles per hour. Just my two cents.
That step in outsole was a problem especially when one got tired and started to heel strike more. I like it that they changed it. The version 3 is the first Alphafly ever also because of the weight that I like. How is the sizing? I have had to go up half size in all Vaporflys.
@@Lalo_Runs yeah I get it, I guess I have used my pair for 300 of my 2000 mile year, if I bought it before it was discounted and didnt also run trails I might be on my third or fourth pair.
I love your videos and before I buy any shoe I look at you guys videos for your opinion and I want these I’m hoping they put out different colors by the spring I’m buying a pair. Happy Holidays to your whole crew.
I currently use the Vaporfly 2 and was going to pick up the VF3 soon. What would be the reasoning someone would use the AF3 as their race day shoe over the Vaporfly?
So your description of comfort at every pace + the pods reminds me of what I think of the (now sadly defunct) Nike Tempo Next Percent - my all-time favorite shoe. Do you happen to have any knowledge if they will be bringing that shoe back to couple with this one as a trainer? I saw they briefly brought the men’s version back with the pink colorway but I have not seen anything else - neither women’s nor any restocking of the men’s Tempo.
50k steps in a marathon seems too high. That equates to a stride length of 0.84 meters. I suspect a better average is 1 meter, which equates to roughly 42k strides for a full marathon. Another way to think about it is by time and cadence. Assume average marathon is about 4 hours and person has cadence of 170. That’s 41k strides in a marathon. Sorry for the nerdiness 😂
Loved the AF1 until I ran a full marathon in them and that is when the arch caused major problems. Had done 20 mile runs in them with no issue, not sure why it popped up in my full marathon, but every run in them after was a pain. Skipped the 2, now excited that they addressed the arch! Can't wait!
Regards, I really love the af1 I have to say that I was desperate looking for a running shoe that provide the confort that my foot demands, before the af1 I had a plantar fasciitis fo approximately a year, and I have to say that the af1 helped to leave that chapter of my life behind , another impressive review about af1 is the incredible confort in every step , one thing that impressed me was that a difference of other running shoes is the fact that I don’t have to change the original insoles , thing that with always happened with other brands, another attribute is cero blisters, problem solved, I’m a triathlete and in the transition from the bike to pedestrian I feel more stronger than any other shoe in all my history as triathlete I’m asking me if the alpha fly 3 overcome the alpha fly 1 ? Some commenters have eluded to this, but do you think those big cutouts will have an effect on durability or anything else? I mean, if it saves you weight, might as well shave off all the cush, right? (That's a somewhat rhetorical question)
Short question. I normally only run in low drop shoes. I hated the af2 becauae they increased the drop. This is still 8mm. ..does it feel like ot though?
I’ve watched every review of this possible since this is the first Nike marathon shoe I’ve actually purchase and may keep (I had to return the Next% years ago bc it hurt my foot). Every review is pretty much in agreement that the VF is more suited to HM. It’s somewhat lighter and more nimble, but not as cushioned or comfortable for most people when considering a full marathon. So the consensus seems to be AF for full, VF for HM! That’s assuming they work for you and are comfortable.
Absolutely TTS. I wear a W9 in general and sized up for my Endorphin Pro3 to 9.5 to get a little better toe space. However, I got to try the AF3 for 30 days thanks to my favorite running store and they fit me absolutely perfectly/comfortably. I have an average (medium) width foot, for reference. Plenty of room everywhere but secure and a good lockdown at the same time.
The horse noise is still present? I love Endo Elite and only the Alpha can be better but Elite is silent and smoother. I don't think that Alpha is now more better than Elite, or perhaps is the best now?
