    With the worldwide success of the THROTTLE BOX overdrive, we saw potential for an even more powerful version that included our classic Five-Band Graphic Equalizer. With the added shaping power the on-board Five Band EQ creates the THROTTLE BOX EQ can go anywhere you want to take it stylistically. The middle range of the GAIN control delivers tight, stinging overdrive that-depending on whether you choose LO or HI GAIN Modes-can cover everything from Blues to Modern Metal with plenty of attitude and an urgent percussive nature. Cranking things up into the upper one-third of the GAIN control in HI unleashes a hot-rod that’s blistering with searing top-end harmonics. For Hard Rock and Metal our Graphic EQ set to the popular mid-scooped “V-Curve” has a 40-year track record of creating the heaviest sounds around. Yet with limitless curve possibilities, the Graphic expands the potential for sonic diversity across all styles as well as being able to unleash Mayhem.
    Like the original, this expanded THROTTLE BOX includes two Modes but here they are controlled by a HI/LO footswitch that enables you to have two gain regions to choose from during live performance. There are also dedicated HI LEVEL and LO LEVEL Output controls, allowing you to set the desired volume level for each Gain Mode individually. The EQ can be assigned to either or both of these Gain Mode choices so that it becomes active with the desired Gain Mode selection. In addition, we’ve fitted a MID CUT control that allows global scooping of the mids in addition to whatever you might do with the Graphic sliders. And finally, the internally selectable BOOST switch hidden under the Bottom Plate on the original THROTTLE BOX appears on this EQ version as an easily accessible Top Panel BOOST switch for extra girth and a bit of gain enhancement. We’re confident this pedal will exceed your expectations and provide an inspiring tool for expression.

    Unlike most comments here, I appreciate the use of a Fender amp in this demo. I know what it's gonna sound like plugged into a Mesa-Boogie!!! Now I've got an idea of what to expect if I plug it into my Fender. Then I can start guessing what happens if I plug it into my Jazz Chorus. Thanks for the info...!!!

      agree. if you have a mesa mark or recto, you shouldnt need this pedal in the first place. lot of these metal guys need to learn more about gear than ‘gain’

      I’m curious as to how it would sound in the FX loop of a Fender amp myself. 🤔

    For anyone interested:
    I picked this pedal up recently. Tried it thru my Mark IV, both in the front (clean channel) and also Effects Return (power amp stage).
    It was ok thru the front, but thru the Effects Return it was 90%+ the same as the 3rd channel (hi gain) of the amp. Totally acceptable as either a back up pedal should the preamp stage go down or an alternate Mark style lead tone

    The pedal is pretty good for a tight distortion sound if you can get it at the right price. I appreciate you using a Fender Amp, as it's about as "clean" of a signal as you can get that still responds like a proper amp. I despise gear reviews for gain pedals where their "clean sound" has tube breakup from cranked input gain. At that point, you could even use a clean boost in the front and have it sound like a drive pedal. Gear reviews require a baseline example, not the presenter trying to audition for a band; I need to know the bare minimum these things can do to know what I can build off of.

    I’ve been wanting to see this pedal used in the FX Return of an amp, but nobody seems to be making any videos using it as a preamp pedal, unfortunately. It’s a shame because I figured this pedal would be a perfect piece of gear to make a budget variation of a Mesa Mark series amp.

    It's not a surprise. A simple pedal will never sound like a 10x more expensive amplifier. Above all if it's the same brand, they would be mad to do this...

      @NStuffMusic  6 лет назад +7

      Fair enough, but it is a great option if you have a completely clean amp and need another dimension to it.

      It might do them good to make it a valve pedal for at least a little more of an authentic sound

      +Erik Ceman its the recording signal. Their mic and pre combo while micing the amp. Does not do this pedal justice

    • @NStuffMusic
      @NStuffMusic  8 лет назад +4

      +M Kiefer Every video we have done since December 2013 has been the same mic and pre; An Audio -Technica AT4081 Ribbon Mic and a Focusrite Sapphire Pro 40 Pre. The amp is mic'd in the same place every time as well, where the dustcap meet the cone. No EQ, no Compression. Just a bit of mastering to bring volume up to a respectable level..

    Sounds very thin and flat. Lacks the warmth of a Mesa amp or any tube amp. The sustain is very nice however

      i reckon it's because he has the mids right down on the EQ section of the pedal. This thing does sound good when EQ'd correctly

    This is hands-down one of the worst "distortion" pedals I've ever had the misfortune of trying to work with. Might as well roll your town knob all the way down and plug into a metalzone.
