Funny how Jesus never asked that ANYTHING be enshrined to Him🤔 Nowhere, anywhere in the NT, does He ask this and in fact says quite the opposite to this; “And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:” - Revelation 9:20 (KJV) So I would venture a guess that maybe, just maybe, these enshriners didn't quite follow His comandments and did these things. But, no worries, He's got some news for them; Matthew 7 (KJV) ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ²¹ Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. ²² Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? ²³ And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. ²⁴ Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: Sorted. I saw on a program at least 10 years ago, archeologists did find a wrist bone with a nail in it that the archeologist said was of a person who had been crucified by the Romans. The archeologists said that the Romans knew enough about the body to know that the bones of the wrist were strong enough to support the person, while the bones in the hand weren't. That is why the Romans actually nailed the person through the wrist not the hand.
The Bible is based on a fictional 6,000 year-old Earth where Neanderthals never existed. In the real world, most people have some Neanderthal DNA because our human ancestors mated with Neanderthals and Africans whose ancestors have never left Africa have no Neanderthal DNA.
The ancient Greek language did not have separate words for 'wrist' and 'hand' which is something that caused a lot of confusion on this topic. Yeah, its believed that the nail went between the bones of the wrist but the Bible says 'hand' because that's the closest translation English had to the Greek word used there.
I haven’t heard of the discovery of a hand, but there was a Discovery of a long, iron nail in a heel bone found. I remember growing up and this was atheists argument that people could not have been crucified. Are you kidding me!!?? It was there MO for major crimes. @@kathleenmann7311 The earliest definitive mention of the Shroud of Turin in any written document is a letter written in 1389 by Pierre d’Arcis, the bishop of the city of Troyes to the Avignon Antipope Clement VII. In the letter, Pierre states that the shroud was being used as part of an elaborate faith-healing scam. Pierre describes how his predecessor, Bishop Henri de Poitiers, set out on a mission to find out where the shroud had come from. After much inquiry, Henri managed to track down the original forger who had made the shroud, who confessed to him that he had created the shroud as a deliberate hoax and even showed Henri exactly how he had done it. Henri, having obtained this confession, ordered that the shroud be put away and that no one be permitted to venerate it. "...Eventually, after diligent inquiry and examination, he discovered the fraud and how the said cloth had been cunningly painted, the truth being attested by the artist who had painted it, to wit, that it was a work of human skill and not miraculously wrought or bestowed.”
If you guys are going to go down the bible path, I would love for you to do some series on what the bible says in Hebrew and compare it to what the English version is. And/or include what it was like to live in the time the individual books of the bible were written.
Ooh. Can we add some of the Apocryphal books as well? The ones that were removed along the way or were taught concurrently but didn't make the cut during the councils, or were deliberately excluded.
for a man who isn't a Christian believer I admire your courage. All the time people claim that the Bible is just a fairy tale and the facts presented are just fiction. When archeology proves that the Bible was right they just move to the next claim, without admitting they were wrong. You just give credit where credit is due. I admire that.
There are a lot more claims in the Bible that are simply objectively untrue. The Exodus, for example. It is claimed variously that either two million or thirty thousand Jews escaped Egypt and fled to Israel. The average human being produces right at 320 pounds of feces in a year. Multiplied by 30,000 people, that's 9,600,000 lbs.(4,800 tons) of feces per year, or 192,000 tons for the entire Exodus of 40 years given the lowball figure of 30,000 Jews. That's a lot of feces in the hot, dry and comparatively tiny Sinai desert, and we would expect much of it to have fossilized - but it hasn't. There has been no fossilized human feces (or anything else - camps, bits of firewood etc.) found in the Sinai. Using the high ball number of two million we get 640,000,000 pounds (320,000 tons) of feces per year, or 25,600,000,000 pounds (12,800,000 tons) of human excrement for the entire Exodus era. If the former number, you would expect the desert to have pretty consistent piles of human excrement found at regular intervals. If the latter it should be almost covered in it. Nowhere to be found
Who does that? The books of the Bible were written in antiquity and touch on events of the day. Some they got right, some they got wrong, and some they made up. I don't know why anyone, believer or agnostic, would deny that.
The Bible would not exist had it not been for the belief systems that preceded it, from sumerian to babylonian to assyrian to akkadian to hellenic to egypt to roman to paganism etc etc. There are historical observations within the works, yes obviously, but even that is erroneously presented even when there is historical backing. Where are all the hebrew slaves of egypt... I never understood how a person can believe in a fixed system built on such flimsy pillars as that of the abrahamic theologies. One must seriously suspend ones reason and logic to even consider the ridiculous. And with all its errors and mistakes and historical fallacies how can a person in the age of information and remotely believe this nonsense. There were no hebrew slaves in egypt. The flood story is based on much much older myths and legends which the Bible retells to the tooth but changes names and date and regions to fit its own narrative. How many christians speak the old tongues? Barely anyone, how many christians can attested to the bible, none for none of them know the previous works, they merely go on blind assumptions. Honestly I find the whole thing incredibly pathetic given the blood thirsty history of the christians and their murderous nature, no religion in history has been as sacrificial as that of the judiac religions none have also been nearly as destructive as the judiac religions. And after all that bloodshed and destruction, entire people groups eradicated, languages lost histories rewritten in the light of the new themes religions instill upon the population, and after all that, people still have the nerve to say, "I need not to think for myself and I feel you should join me for else you will go to hell and be damned" well I usually tend to reply with "fuck off ya imbecile" and it usually works.

Thank you for presenting this! I am Christian so I have a bias of course but I think it is important to understand that the Bible is not only a religious text but also the written history of a people. Of course with a religious outlook on life but nontheless a description of their time. I think the Babylonian invasion describes it well. The history is fact, the outlook on why it happened is religious. That doesn't mean that the bible will be 109% accurate in describing history but it is also not a book describing only the supernatural aspects of life. Another comparison might be the story of Troy which was long believed to be myth, however it appears the historical part of the story actually took place. That is to say the ancients were much better at keeping their history alive than we give them credit for.
The irony of worshippers declaring a book to be a history of a people, and using that book to condemn, torture, and murder the people whose history the book speaks of.
You know, I just happened to be researching war, torture and what not. It may seem crazy, but no religion is needed for war, torture, whatever. I get your point, but I think you should use a little balance in your thinking. I can almost hear you saying something about not having to make comments if Christianity didn't exist. Would you find something different to make negative remarks about though?
The bible is so true that it doesn't preach victory and heroic acts. It tells all the bad and wrong things the "protagonists" did. A false story tends to make its main characters be heroes. The bible does not do that. Even Jesus's disciples are painted as cowardly, weak, flawed but they repent. That doesn't happen in writings of other cultures.
I just want to point out that the "prophetic books" aren't all about future events (in reference to your comment about the book of Amos). The function of a prophet (biblically) isn't primarily about telling people about future events. Just some context for people who are unaware.

Studies in relation to the Big Bang and the formation of the universe has shown that the order of events are pretty much identical to the biblical creation story. Mind, only the _order_ of events. I don't get whats so crazy about nails through heel bones. The purpose of a cross was literally to make your dying moments as painful as possible as torture.
It seems likely to me that anybody tied to a cross is highly likely to be untied by their friends. A nail through the heal would be a dead give away of anyone that had been crucified, even if they escaped and survived.
Crucifixion is still considered one of the most brutal forms of execution. It was invented by the Parthians and perfected by the Romans 500 year later. Rome used teams of professional soldiers/executioners to do the job. They made no mistakes and nobody lived once it started. Dr. Mark Eastman, a physician and emergency room doctor did a speech on Jesus death on the cross from a medical perspective, describing how the body reacts and breaks down. It’s a good listen to a horrifying way to die.
Thanks Simon and Co. for another really interesting episode. Keep up the good work :) Just a heads up; there's a scammer posing as your channel replying to comments, asking people to contact them.
I don’t think anyone doubts some of the historical facts of the Bible (and other religious books). The problem comes when supernatural elements are taken as fact.
The problem with science and religion isn't what they are, but when we misapply their answers. Generally speaking, the underlying purpose of science is to answer "how" questions, whereas the underlying purpose of religion is to answer "why"questions. This is always how I understood it. So, if I were to ask you "How did you get to the store?", the answers would be like "in my car" or "down Main Street". If I were to ask "Why did you go to the store?", the answer would be something like "to pick up milk and bread". The age of enlightenment split the previously intertwined concepts of knowledge and wisdom. Throw the fact that even though the Bible and other ancient documents were written by people like you or I, and you have potential wrinkles of confusion everywhere due to the separation of time, language, and culture. This is why I like Simon's stuff. He tries to get as close to the truth when he shares his nuggets with us.
Judaism and Christianity - the only religions I have any real knowledge of - certainly do have historical facts, but also stories where doctrine was more important than historical accuracy.

not proof of crucifixion at all, it's just evidence of a foot that has a nail in it. making baseless claims is what religion does to fool its followers, it's not the process of the scientific method at all.
And how exactly do you know that its specifically the foot of the messiah? Its not like Jesus was the only person to ever be crucified by the romans. Even during Jesus' crufixion in the Bible other people were being crucified alongside him.
Hey Simon, look in to the Greek word that many bibles translate to cross. It's Stavros. Upright pole, tree, stake. No cross member mentioned. Also, logically, a cross shape doesn't really cause asphyxiation, having your arms vertical does though, as you eventually cannot support your weight with your legs and slump, causing your asphyxiation by compressing your airway. Arms to the sides do not have this effect.
Stavros means literally Cross, i am greek myself, that was very popular symbol too, due to the crucifixions, theres no point in making conspiracies here
The word that is somewhat questioned is the nail through the hand. Ancient greek used the same word for hand/wrist, so it being through the wrist would have no conflict with the Bible.

Note for 4:10: prophecy in Christianity does not mean "telling the future", it means "speaking the heart of God". This does often mean predictions of the future, but the focus is not the event, but the consequences. Prophecy can mean giving instruction, giving information, interpreting a dream, providing wisdom, or conveying God's love. Predictions of the future are a small part of it.

He said they were used for important people, someone some people might want to risk death to save them and cuts the cords. Nails could not be taken out so easily and rapidly as cutting cords. And their feet were rendered useless, so they couldn’t just run away. Like Jesus or this person in this hidden tomb. He said we would know if we ever found Jesus’s body because he would also have the hands nailed, suffocating his healing powers. Because as Simon said, no nailed hands were ever found.

Amen! Well stated! The archaeological paper on Tall El Hammam is intriguing, for example, because it demonstrates a likely location and historic truth to the destruction of Sodom and the cities of the plain. While there are some problems with the paper's conclusions, it does raise some interesting prospects-not the least of which being the accuracy of the biblical account as filtered through the minds of Bronze Age authors. We moderns need to realize that just because oral traditions lacked the exacting accuracy we expect does not necessarily make them wrong.
The Bible clearly says that the power and principalities of the world willingly suppress the truth. Everything I see and experience in this world indeed proves this correct.
There are tons of findings. For instance: Joshua’s alter at Mount Ebal with lead tablet curses from the Laws written on them dating to the 1400’s bc. Atheist scholars would have you believe that the Israelites couldn’t read or write until the 400’s bc, after their return from Babylon. They just keep trying, and keep getting shot down. Also sulfur balls that do not appear naturally really anywhere, but especially in the Jordan plans(the Jordan planes and the Dead Sea are not volcanically active) have been found along with a burnt city that reached amazing temperatures. Or how about Jabal Al Lawz that has all the tellings of Mount Sinai including the top of the the mountain, where the the top of the rocks are black but not the bottom; like the mountain was on fire. The amazing things you can find when you actually listen to the people that have been there, the archeologists without an agenda and not CNN are amazing.
Wow, it appears you are seeking confirmation bias. Perhaps you should scrutinize your beliefs and learn about what archeology has shown to contradict in various biblical narratives. Also, there is literary and archeological evidence to demonstrate the origins and antecedents of Christianity and Judaism.
The thing about the Bible is that even if Jesus himself is conclusively proven to have existed it doesn't "prove" the Bible. Christianity hinges not simply on the existence and teachings of Jesus, but specifically on him being the divine son of God.
Gotta love the amount of smooth brains that keep saying "it still doesn't prove the bible is real".... THAT WASN'T THE INTENTION OF THE VIDEO.... nowhere in it does it talk about the ideals or teachings being real, just that we have found things to confirm SOME of what was written.

Even from a purely secular point of view, the authors and compilers of biblical writings would have at a minimum needed some kind of kernel of truth to be believable in their day. Some parts of the Bible were initially written for the sole purpose of record keeping. Instances such as the Israelite conquest of Canaan actually match the Amana letters found in Egypt, even detailing the same regions that sympathized with the invaders.

Funny how Jesus never asked that ANYTHING be enshrined to Him🤔 Nowhere, anywhere in the NT, does He ask this and in fact says quite the opposite to this;
“And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:”
- Revelation 9:20 (KJV)
So I would venture a guess that maybe, just maybe, these enshriners didn't quite follow His comandments and did these things. But, no worries, He's got some news for them;
Matthew 7 (KJV)

See Shroud of Turin . It shows bloodstains on the wrist and feet
I haven’t heard of the discovery of a hand, but there was a Discovery of a long, iron nail in a heel bone found. I remember growing up and this was atheists argument that people could not have been crucified. Are you kidding me!!?? It was there MO for major crimes. Atheists have since quietly backed away from that argument-like they always do-and moved on to others that have been proven wrong as well. The claim is always on page one of the news paper; the retraction is always on page 6. Jesus is out Lord and a Savior, come out of His heavenly abode to portray the ultimate price for His love for us, and even today people spit on Him.
"...Eventually, after diligent inquiry and examination, he discovered the fraud and how the said cloth had been cunningly painted, the truth being attested by the artist who had painted it, to wit, that it was a work of human skill and not miraculously wrought or bestowed.”

for a man who isn't a Christian believer I admire your courage.

I don’t think anyone doubts some of the historical facts of the Bible (and other religious books). The problem comes when supernatural elements are taken as fact.
so how exactly did the universe start
@@yvonetubla7682we don't know, but scientists are at least trying to answer that, rather than saying God did it
@@lukedeakin7124 or saying god did not do it automatically like you do
The problem with science and religion isn't what they are, but when we misapply their answers.
That's super interesting you say that, but it's not been my experience.
Makes sense. All religions have some historical facts. They are just concerned with the shades of their respective faith.
All?
Judaism and Christianity - the only religions I have any real knowledge of - certainly do have historical facts, but also stories where doctrine was more important than historical accuracy.

To be fair, fundementalists can be blamed for how hostile some of the US is towards christian. When all you see is a very bad extremist side of a religion, said religion will grow really sour to you.
Why wouldn't it have real places and happenings. It was written in those times. The fact that these places exist is no stretch.
It's great that they can still be found today.
There are many who contend the Bible is pure fiction with no historical basis as opposed to a dramatization of events that actually occurred.
@@tornicade Hard to dismiss events that are in other people's written history.
@@johnadams7402 yeah. I've been told for forty years that there's was no such thing as a great flood.. yet the Carolinas have tear drops and the Sahara desert terrain was scraped like a giant tsunami...
Much admiration for this man for speaking respectfully about this when I suspect that he's far too skeptical to be religious.
Maybe he’ll find 173880 or the electric resistivity scans of Noah’s Ark?
Or the chariot wheels under the gulf of Aqaba?
My sincerest prayer that Simon comes to know Christ through his research
My sincerest prayer that you come to know the truth. :)
My sincerest condolence for the lost of the remaining brain cells you lost by this fallacies.
My university teacher had the theory that the nails were rarely used as they were expensive to make just to punish some thief or petty criminal.

I mean a book which spans thousands of years and is a collection of multiple authors all writing a canonical story, so it’s bound to get something’s right.
It seems to be based on real events.. maybe a bit exaggerated but idk

What do any of these prove?
That the bible got some things accurate.
No proof for an invisible almighty but indifferent man in the sky
it proves that even a stopped clock is right twice a day... lol
Make a multitude of claims and predictions and sooner or later some will be right, that only means that "some" statistically lined up with events you interpret a specific way... It proves nothing. Come back when its "ALL" or at least a significant portion is proven
Isn't there a saying about correlation and causations... It must equally be true that a correlation to an insignificant amount of a substantial text is not proof of anything other than chance and probability...

Great video.
There's tens of thousands of archeological "discoveries" that prove the Bible is true. People just dismiss it because if the Bible is true, then they don't want to deal with the eternal consequences of their actions.
Genesis also claims that the universe had a beginning, an idea which scientists did not believe for the longest time.
It also claims a whole lot of really stupid things
Can someone link the first video on bible evidence? I searched through the channel but couldn't find it. Thanks!
I love finding biblically accurate historical facts... does make one really take the book seriously.
I've seen lots of smooth brains arguing the opposite, actually. Lots of "ah ha! Take that Atheist (& pro-Secularist)!" Types.
@Gerald H wait…
I am pretty new to this channel and I thought, as your average german atheist, that it will be a US christian rant of "Why we should all pray to the christian god " rant.
Lucky me a good a nice surprise.
The bible was written in the late 300s, at least that what I learned in history classes.
Some of it was real, like certain persons, happenings and places. Much was just the writers versions of other faiths and cultures like the Gilgamesh Epos.
But a lot of is is esoteric nonsense.
Like an almighty omnipresent god that hates everybody so much that he drowns the whole world.
And asks people to sacrifice their children.
Jesus wasn't gods son.
He was a political activist against the romans and a rebel against the jew religion.
As an atheist I think it's good to differ between intention, message, real happenings and esoteric fiction.
And this channel delivers.
@@CordeliaWagneras a US Christian I wasn’t expecting a German Atheist to rant about things he doesn’t know about.
Unlucky for me.
I disagree with everything you said, especially Jesus not being the Son of God. But I just want to point you to this from the Bible: “You shall not worship the Lord your God in that way, for every abominable thing that the Lord hates they have done for their gods, for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods.”
Deuteronomy 12:31 ESV
“There shall not be found among you anyone who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, anyone who practices divination or tells fortunes or interprets omens, or a sorcerer”
Deuteronomy 18:10 ESV
If you’re talking about Abraham going to sacrifice Issac, if God wanted Abraham to sacrifice Issac, then why did God provide a Ram to be sacrificed in Issac’s stead? Abraham believed that Issac would be resurrected when he went to sacrifice him (Hebrews 11:19). Is it wrong to sacrifice your child if God promises that your child will come back? A deep and interesting question that Kierkegaard wrote a book on.
I hope that clarifies one of your misconceptions, if you want to hear what the Bible says about your other points I would be happy to explain it to you.
you're just bumhurt that ZERO of your stupid religions supernatural assertions are even remotely demonstrable to be true or real.
zero.

John Walton’s Lost World books are excellent for understanding the early chapters of Genesis in their literary and cultural context.
Hallelujah I was able to visit Capernaum, Galilee, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Golgotha, Cana, Bethany, Bethesda, Mount Carmel, Mount Zion, Mount of Olives, Mount Mariah, Mount Sinai, Mount Nebo, Jordan River, Dead Sea, Sea of Galilee, Red Sea. To visit Jerusalem, Israel, Egypt, Jordan Holy Land is best investment to walk the footsteps of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
God, I love listening to you talk...
Stop with these kinds of videos. Magic isn't real, Genesis is a story ripped off from other cultures, the flood never happened, and neither did the Exodus. Making videos like this is like making one that says, "more discoveries prove that Santa Clause is real."
Bro the Dead Sea scrolls back the Bible and genesis there’s even a bunch of historical evidence for Jesus
With this, I would love a list of proven bs from the bible :P
Problem is, all the bible humpers would report that video until taken down.
“The Bible the word of god? Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence” it’s still standing on YT here even after all these years and I think it’s the best video
Thank you for being respectful, Simon.
