People say Choi wasn't the same after this - I'm not sure that's too fair. I think it was the fact he had to do mandatory military duty, and then the UFC throwing him in there with Jeremy Stephens, who unironically is the hardest hitter at 145, as his first fight back. TKZ got Bermudez as his first fight back - tough guy who can land a punch but not someone who can hit as hard as Stephens. Stephens absolutely cracked Choi's chin and he was never the same.
This kind of reminds me of Hagler vs Hearns but in MMA form, over 30 years later. Two young prospects going up against each other in an instant classic, forever engraving their name in their legacy within the sport of MMA. Class act move from the UFC adding this to the hall of fame.
Amazing fight, but you can tell Cub is definitely on performance enhancing substances, almost 40 y/o moving like that is not possible without 'help' (big Swanson fan btw)
Cub is my nephew, and I can say with 100% certainty Cub uses no drugs whatsoever!! He’s a natural warrior - has been extremely strong and determined since he was a young kid!!
Even though I was rooting for Choi as a Korean born, I was very impressed by Cub Swanson's ability to adjust and improvise. That's 50% instinct, 50% culture.

변칙적인 공격에는 너무 속수 무책으로 당하는듯 너무 정석적인 스파링만하며 연습한것 같음. UFC에는 강하면서 실력도 있으면서 변칙적인 선수들이 즐비하기에 저런 변칙적인 공격에 대해 따라 준비 하지 않으면 체력이 떨어지거나 그로기 상태가 되었을때 무의식적으로 반응해 방어할수 없으니 저렇게 되는듯함. 거기에 달려드는 기세가 여태 최두호와 만났던 선수중 역대급이였던듯. 솔직히 둘다 중간에 끝낼수 있을정도의 데미지도 많았는데 정신력들이 대단하긴함.
처음엔 그저 부딪혀보다 컵이 급 작전을 바꿔서 달려 들었다하죠... 그게 적중... 최두호는 상대가 들어오면 빼지않고 같이 카운터 걸고 싸우는 스탈이라... 노련한 컵한테 말렸다고 봐야. 이제 나이도 먹고 경험도 해서 무조건 치고박지는 않는다고 하기도 했고, 요즘은 침착하죠. 최두호는 항상 1라는 잘함.. 2라부터 페이스가 말리기 시작.... 스티븐스한테도 1라는 잘했는데..
최두호 선수 기량의 반도 안 나온 경기네요 0:44 스완슨 돌진에 킥 이라는 옵션을 생각 자체를 안 한건지 무방비 상태로 안쪽 허벅지 맞고 케이지쪽에 발 헛디뎌서 발목 접질리고 덜덜덜 떠네요. 다리가 불안정하니 최두호 선수의 장점인 타이밍 카운터를 쓸 겨를이 없네요. 예전부터 느낀건데 최두호 선수가 킥을 전혀 생각을 안하고 있는거 같습니다. 이런 모습이면 UFC가 아니라 WBA, WBC, IBF등 세계무대 프로복서가 되는게 나았을거 같네요.
복서는 모르겠고, 코좀이든 최두호든 다른 한국 선수들 대게 킥 쪽은 좀 약한게 맞음. 한국 역대급 선수들 중에 킥 죽이는 파이터는 잘 없었음... 김동현, 코좀, 최두호 등등 ufc 진출했던 선수들 중에 킥이 좋은 선수는 드물고.. 가끔 니킥 좋았던 임현규 등이 있긴 했지만.. 일반적인 로우 미들 하이 잘 차는 사람이 생각보다 없음. 카프도 물론이고.
