I found this song during a very dark time in my life. this song encourages moving forward, not lingering on the past. please, please, please, share this one. its an absolute banger too. people need to hear this sometimes, and I took this song to heart.
This song was an inspiration to me for during the Vietnam era I was discharged from the Army and everything in my life was about to move on up. The drum solos were great in this song.
timeless song. i love the fact that he's saying "just" move on up. just implies something simple yet in difficult times most of us give up...we mustn't do that ...we gotta get up and keep on going!
Heard this while playing Watch Dogs for the first time. Fell in love with it immediately. More often then not I would set a waypoint waaaaaaaaay across the map just so I could roar down the freeway on a motorcycle with this song playing. It never got old. I love this song and whenever I hear it I think back to playing Watch Dogs. Such an amazing song ❤
I volunteered to take on the hardest account, the one everyone said was hell, I worked hard to make a good first impression, but they gave me nothing, for days, I thought I had failed, I almost quit, and just as I was about to retreat to save my career, my boss told me they loved me. This song popped into my head after the realization. Have faith in yourselves brothers, if you know it, go be it.
This is a song that unites all, Curtis Mayfield always presents a dark reality, but also a hope that any individual could rise above and be a powerful citizen to change the World for the better.
If this comes on the radio and you change the channel you are going to hell. This.....this is such good stuff, the messages, the rhythm, the vocals and the clothes. Smooth as all get out.
MAD props not only to Mr. Gibson on bongos, but to whoever was on bass, and who helped Curtis with the string and horn arrangements...Hell, let's give it up for ALL the musicians!

Can't get enough of this song right now. Can't believe this is on the list of artists and songs that my pops never shared with me. Would have been fresh in the USAF in 1970 so maybe he had other things going on.... Here I am 50 years later though, never finding enough funk....

David Hurt You're hurt, I get it, but why post this here? Putting your grievances and those of the Palestinian people squarely on the shoulders of Israel is inane. If you don't know the history, I suggest you learn quickly before cutting in the middle. You act as if Israel is living in some, quite, peaceful suburb of happy town U.S.A. As far as the children are concerned - again, you offend me. I am a praying man and it's peace in the middle east that I do so. There's been long suffering and displacement for both peoples going back thousands of years - or have you conveniently, from your high horse, decided to ignore that fact? If you want to continue this, we can, but pick a different page as this one is for music lovers of a historic and classic genre.
More great words from a black man who cared about his community during the 70's. What a blessed time to be apart of this kind of creative greatness. Curtis Mayfield did more to help the entire black community than most politians.
This is timeless music . It fills my soul to listen to this song. I feel like a whole new genre of incredible music has opened up to me, a genre of soul and funk that just grabs me like no other
Curtis Mayfield had his own signature Style right along side Al Green ,Marvin ,The OJs , Ohio Players .. plus many more but he was Special and touched that feel good nerve and Was an important Artist that made up the Sound track of the 70's . Leaving us with some of the best music ever recorded .. Curtis was an Iconic Artist never to be forgotten and Loved ❤
“If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.
My mother used to play this song to me a lot when I was young. I never understood the meaning back then. Until I found out why my own upbringing had been so rough. She was physically and mentally abused by her parents in the most brutal of ways, as were her siblings. Now here I am 2 years after she died and the lyrics finally make sense. I didn't have it that bad....she tried to move me up..in her way.
Only a genius could have made this track. Still sounds as fresh as it did in 1970. Rest in Peace Mr Mayfield.

This song was an inspiration to me for during the Vietnam era I was discharged from the Army and everything in my life was about to move on up. The drum solos were great in this song.

This takes me back to my youth...I was 11 years old when this came out.
I wish I lived back then! I know that I was born way too late, because this type of music is my jam, Carl! 💃🌟💃🌟
Repeated this song from Michigan all the way Alabama, was hype the whole time. Curtis Mayfield is the truth.
A great pick me up during the 2020 covid-19 outbreak. Remember your dream is your only scheme so keep on pushing!
Exactly, try Jackson 5 too.

There’s nothing quite like listening to this song specifically during the current pandemic. Great pick up and rather comforting I find.
All dreams are on hold...
Jersey Jack you know any great songs like thus
timeless song. i love the fact that he's saying "just" move on up. just implies something simple yet in difficult times most of us give up...we mustn't do that ...we gotta get up and keep on going!
❤first heard this when I was 21 now 71 and right now I'm dancing just like I did 50 years ago thank you Curtis for helping 🙏 to keep me young
This song is pure joy and what we need for 2021!
Absolutey

Move on up!
I totally agree.
The musicianship, arrangement, vocals, and pure funky groove makes this the best COVD-19 anti-depression song ever, awesome song ! ! ! !
Music 🎶 my good folks
Ahhh, groovin', soulful, and that voice! The horns are pure joy. Love this song!!
Now when your song is used on a commercial for all to see hear and it’s already a classic I say this: CURTIS MAYFIELD JOB WELL DONE 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Showing 'em how it's done! 😎
@@SheilaR.08 got that right!! 🌟
Me too
+1 :)
Same thing
Same
I can't tell you if it was ahead of it's time because it was ahead of my time
But I can tell you
It is timeless!
One of the greatest songs ever made still vibing to it 2021
You naiked it man...truely timeless
I volunteered to take on the hardest account, the one everyone said was hell, I worked hard to make a good first impression, but they gave me nothing, for days, I thought I had failed, I almost quit, and just as I was about to retreat to save my career, my boss told me they loved me.
This song popped into my head after the realization. Have faith in yourselves brothers, if you know it, go be it.
Underrated Artist!!! A musical genius!!! A writer and singer! ✊🏾
CURTIS MAYFIELD WAS CALLED THE POET, FROM CHICAGO.
I cry every time I hear this song! It just touch my soul! Real Soul Music!
those horns just give me life!!!!!! thank you Mr. Mayfield
I used to listen to him and Marvin in the 70 and still injoy it today they both left us to soon RIP ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I was there. The best.
Samuel Glass Jr. Yes sir. Yes sir.
Samuel Glass Jr. Joseph "Lucky" Scott was on bass
Curtis did all arrangements himself.
Yes sir! Just computer bs nowadays.
Curtis Mayfield is a legend. I can't believe it's taken me 41 years to hear the extended version. And boy was it ever worth the wait. That 5:00 is some of the best get Down I've ever heard.
King Karm 75 this is not the extended version, this is the actual album version, the first track on his 1970 solo debut.
41 years?? and I thought MY internet was slow!
King Karm 75 same here mate just heard it today,f. Ing amazing
King Karm 75 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 exactly...me too.
This song makes me want to touch the sky
I actually fly through the skies. Only in my mind of course. I've flown so far that I didn't care where I was. But after the song's over, my natural high wears off and it's back down to Earth. Back to reality
@@benjamincarter1884 just loop it
@@ammonite5093I have done this. I get on a natural high, and honestly after the song's over, I come down like a crash landing. But thanks anyway 😊
@williamdunn5914 this song is me..
no, i'm wrong. this song is all of us.

I love this song along with all Curtis’s songs . It was like he could see the future .
Prophetic and in that moment. Ancient to the future.
Pound for pound the greatest song of all-time IMO. I’m not a soul fan particularly - but you just have to recognise the sheer greatness of this record
I can't agree more man.
Agreed, mega mega serious vibe that transcends everything else 👌👌👌
This song gives me a little bit of sunshine during the winter. Gotta move on up in 2021! Best wishes to everyone out there. We can get thru these times together
2021 we moved in the right direction sort of, 2022 it so has to happen. #powerofpositive. HNY!
Funny you say that i just came from playing chilites coldest days of our life to take me back to winter vibes (currently summer)
Can't get enough of this song right now. Can't believe this is on the list of artists and songs that my pops never shared with me. Would have been fresh in the USAF in 1970 so maybe he had other things going on.... Here I am 50 years later though, never finding enough funk....
I grew up on funk and soul.... James Brown in particular. Plus Tamla Motown obviously!
This song is just soo nostalgic to me bcs my dad always played this song in the car in Serbia and i moved to Sweden now.And i also downloaded it on my phone and listened to it when i went back from Smederevo a city in Serbia where i spent most of my summers.I get chills from it

It's Friday and I'm feeling like a little old school. Real music by real musicians.

Get out of here!!!

This song never fails to cheer me up and put in a good mood
Wish I could listen to it for the first time again
I'm jealous of people who get to listen to this for the first time!💃🕺
Even a 60-year-old former sailor, me, is in tears listening to this great song right now. Move on up folks.
Never never ages this great song by the great Curtis Mayfield.
More great words from a black man who cared about his community during the 70's. What a blessed time to be apart of this kind of creative greatness. Curtis Mayfield did more to help the entire black community than most politians.
babe girl i agree
What's the colour of his skin got to do with anything. Look beyond the superficial.

Wat prachtig, wat een klasse! Mocht hem live meemaken in Eindhoven. Vele herinneringen met mijn broer René komen boven!
Anytime I feel down or discouraged, this is my go-to tune. Never fails to help me to "move on up."
My mom loved Curtis Mayfield. Any music of his will always remind me of her. I love his music too.

I remember my high school teacher out Baltimore you to listen to while we was in class good times
