Still relevant 6 years later. Thanks for the great video. Your guidance on audyssey set up/calibration. Has really helped me dial my speakers and subs in. My system never sounded so good! Thank you man ❤😊
@sawolaja65 yes, I just got a denon and was not sure if I got all of the oomph out of it after a couple of calibrations, setting up manually. This video is incredibly helpful to the point I was able to have a spectacular sound field after all.
Good, foundational review. I especially liked the explanation of why you want to set the crossover at 80Hz for the main speakers and overlap the LFE at 120Hz. Makes sense.
Not sure about that... wouldn't the bass content between 80-120Hz be sent to the Mains if you put a Low Pass Filter of 80 on the Sub? I don't think the Denon would just discard the Audio...
Youthman was able to dial in his favorite settings using similar Klipsch speakers but to me the real strength of Audyssey is getting different speakers to play nice together. I have a mix of horn loaded Klipsch speakers and some dome tweeter speakers and they have different efficiencies. After I screw up the setup and things sound bad all I have to do is run Audyssey and they sound great again.
Great video. It's nice to hear someone who knows what they're talking about. I've been using Audyssey on my AV Receivers and processors for years now, and there's tons of misinformation about it, so it's nice to see someone spread the truth. (LPF for LFE, I'm lookin' at you!) Though I always go in and "fix" the issues I've had with Audyssey setting speaker size and crossover, I've never thought to level match with an SPL meter too. That's a great idea and I think I'll be doing that double-check in the near future. I suspect that, in my room, it will be pretty accurate. I've found that my measured distances are dead on. My room is symmetrical and acoustically treated, so that no doubt helps.
Thank you for the kind words Christopher. I certainly do not know it all when it comes to Audyssey but gladly share what I have learned over the years with others. Have you ever tried the Audyssey app? Once I get some free time (what’s that) I want to purchase it and see what it has to offer.
A word of advice on level-matching post-Audyssey: The in-AVR tones are almost never the best way to do this, because even after you do a calibration, those tones don't tend to have the equalization applied. Audyssey sets its levels based on the post-EQ expectation. So ideally, you would want to use a disc with test tones so that the tones themselves have had equalization applied when you're reading them with your meter. Also, IMPORTANT: When you do this, disable DynamicEQ. DEQ slightly boosts surround presence at lower volumes than reference (0). So unless you're running the test tones with volume at 0, the surrounds will read slightly higher if you have DEQ engaged. DEQ also boosts the sub to increasing degrees as you get lower away from reference, so level-checking with DEQ engaged will give skewed results. You can re-engage DEQ after checking the levels. Also: If you're running Atmos, consider that DEQ was designed before Atmos and therefore does NOT do any boosting of the overhead/upfiring speakers. The problem here is that running DEQ with an Atmos system with perfectly matched levels will collapse overhead sounds downward a bit as DEQ is boosting the side/rear surrounds only. A fair compromise is to set your AVR to your typical listening level and then run surround test tones from a disc to see how much boost DEQ is applying... then manually boost the levels of your overhead speakers to match. A big problem with DEQ and Atmos is that you can't use the bass/loudness boost function of DEQ without the surround boost function, so if you like the former, you're stuck with the latter. You may consider ditching DEQ altogether and just raising your subwoofer levels a bit to compensate so that the cross-channel placement for Atmos will be more accurate.
@Youthman Great video and presentation! I think you should edit your video to correct the crossover issue. You shouldn't lower the crossovers from what Audyssey set. You can go up but not down as per Audyssey.
Thank you for the video. I have a Denon receiver and I am running a 9.1 setup. After running Audyssey when I changed speaker position of a couple of speakers, everything was fine with the exception of now I don't get Dolby Atmos any longer when playing a 4k DVD or anything that has DA. All my receiver shows now is Multi-Surround 7.1. I am not sure what changed or how to get this corrected. When I go through the speaker assignment, it clearly shows 9.1 in the speaker list. Any help getting DA back would be appreciated. Thank you.
Sir, Audyssey room correction is enough. Not needed SPL/Radioshack . I did several times experiment with Audyssey 8 positions and after I used SPL (for adjusting Each speaker @75 db at C weight slow loop.). After few days I just ran only audyssey 8 positions. I did not trim with SPL. I just kept all settings what audyssey did in the calibration and correction(I mean after completed Audyssey I did not change any settings). Then I found something special in my sound system. I listened lossless data in my musics. If you need to change crossover settings then put them 10 or 20 hz above after calibration (80 hz not necessary). Your experience is true. Once try it. Note1: Before the calibration you need to choose following details: 1.Don't use lfe+main. 2.Use lfe only . 3. Keep Bass management 120hz. Note2: After calibration you must set that all speakers are small.
Dear Youthman. I am from the Netherlands and recently bought a Denon AVR-X4500H including crown xls 1502 pre amp and bought svs atm speakers together 11.1. In addition, I have a yamaha ystw 800watt and some wharfedale speakers center, front and rear. Have also calibrated well this is similar to your video advice. But with certain settings that you have adjusted such as large to small and 80 hz settings crossover and with bass on lfe. With this I also adjusted well. I have the feeling that it is similar to your marantz that the sound benefits TV movies and PS4.
Great Video ! On 16:05 time an explanation of LPF for LFE adjustment. On my Subwoofer there is knob for crossover settings. From 80hz to 120hz and in addition an LFE position. What to adjust if the processor is on 120hz with LFE enabled ? Thanks.
@@Youthman The Marantz sr6012 definitely clarifies dialogue much more than the Pioneer 1019 did. It has more clarity overall. The streaming music feature through Heos is fantastic. Now, I've started to hear some of the lower quality of some recorded music. Just a suggestion: sometime could you do a video on quality of digital audio recordings?
LFE +main at 120 hrtz with the speakers set to small and crossovers at 60-80 range will there be a difference ?!Please share any feed back on that if you may!Thank you!
Thank you very much. Very informative and easy to understand. You've got a new subscriber. Thumbs UP from Russia! Keep on your very good an helpful job.
Regarding speaker distances: It's badly labelled by Audyssey. It's actually showing you post-Audyssey calculated time delay offsets based on the measurement of your room. You shouldn't manually adjust the distances to match the actual distances from your primary listening position to your speakers. Audyssey uses (tiny) time delays as part of the process of ensuring you perceive all sound as arriving at exactly the same moment. I don't know why they've never corrected the labelling or provided a better basic description in the UI.
Audyssey MultEQ TX32 sounds just like the YPAO RSC Multipoint I have on my Yamaha RX-A880. I found the best setup for my room was to take a test on the C,L,R, and standing Center - I place the mic on both my ears, laying it directly on the top of my ear where my eardrum is right behind the mic just like where I sit. So if my Right ear is facing the back wall, that's where I let the EQ measure. That worked brilliantly for me. My Klipsch sound dam near perfect to me.
This is great simple to understand I just bought a Denon AVC-X3700 it’s got the same menu same company. I just wanted to know you set the crossover on the speakers what about the crossover on the sub thx.
Doesn't Audessey recommend to increase but not to lower crossovers? If crossovers are set at 110 or 150, we do not need it lower them to 80hz as per audyssey? Also there is an option to select the curve. Would you prefer a FLAT curve?
@Youthman, when frequency response range for center channel is 82Hz -21KHz, does that mean setting the crossover for it at 80Htz is pointless, because it can’t go lower than 82Htz (ma be wrong in how I’m understanding this)? Does that, then mean you have to set the crossover above 82Htz (what about rule of thumb THX recommendation of 80Htz) for a speaker like that? In short, is crossover frequency different from frequency response range for speakers?
I could not to get the analog CD, dvd input, it always come out from HDMI cable that connect to TV. How do you get the analog audio input to work? can you help? thanks in advance.
Incredible video! I was having such problems setting up Audyssey that I almost threw my new Denon receiver in the garbage, Very helpful, thank you. Next step is get a real tripod. That cardboard thing is a joke.
Hi I have a Denon X4500H do you please have any advice on how to set up Audyssey for two older Yamaha YST-SW305 subwoofers - I note in the video you used 1 subwoofer
I just added a 2nd subwoofer to my denon x2300w but I'm not 100% sure how to activate the second sub. There is 2 sub pre outs so I assumed everything was simple🤷♂️
Have you tried doing this only to your front speakers? You will loose a lot of bass, and it is irreversible without turning it off or completely resetting the the Marantz. That multi eq xt32 function is the one that needs to be adjusted cause it is killing all the bass. and the marantz does not give any manual adjustment functino within the xt32 filters.
When using Windows. Should I also put the fronts and rears in the configuration to small? Or should I put those to "Full range" in order to send full signal to the receiver?
so when I ran the audyssesy setup .. then go into the manual setup ,, its all different then what then what is in the audyssey settings ,, meaning that if i go in the audyssey and look at what it set under the audyssey , where you cant change anything , but just look .. it does not match what is in the manual setup.. , could this be that i setup a manual setup before i ran audyssey ?? ,, i am really confused cause i have run the audyssey and it set stuff up but when i go into the manual setup it is still what i had set up previously .. , do i need to reset and start from scratch?
Audyssey works, but very few people calibrate properly. For the best results it's all about detail, mathematics and precision, and trust me I know, that turns 85% of people off. Most people think they just put the calibration mic in each seat and run the setup, nope. I'll try to make this brief, in every speaker layout guide it states (if possible) to have each speaker equidistant from each other. When I achieved this I had a true center listening position (confirmed and measured by Audyssey, L/R same distance, LS/ RS same distance, LSB/ RSB same distance, TMHL/TMHR all the same distance from the center listening positio), thats step 1. Next I built a (Level) mic stand with the Audyssey recommended measuring positions which are, 1. center listening position (all at ear "level" btw) 2. 2 ft. to the right from center 3. 2 ft. to the left from center 4. 2 ft. forward from position #3 5. 2 ft. forward from position #1, the center position 6. 2 ft. forward from position #2 7. Audyssey recommends 6 inches behind the center position and 1 foot to the left (3 1/2 inches behind worked for me) 8. Audyssey recommends 6 inches behind the center position and 1 foot to the right (3 1/2 inches behind worked for me)
I went to home depot and bought 2 boards / planks and built something that looks like a crucifix with holes drilled in it using 2 screws and bolts to stabilize it at 90 degree angles. Level it (with a level) on a stool or something flat using a counter weight. On the bottom of the calibration mic there is a threaded hole where you can screw the mic on to a bolt, get the matching size bolt to screw in through the bottom of the holes you drill. With the horizontal board drill a hole at the center and the one approx. 2 ft to the right then another 2 ft from center to the left. On the vertical board, drill holes 2 ft forward from the center for listening positions 4, 5, & 6, now the crucifix is a big T, counter weight the back end when measuring. And finally drill the holes for the last 2 positions 6 inches (or 3 1/2 in my case) and 1 foot to either size from the center on the horizontal board. My results were simply amazing, for me it's all about sound sweeps, having sound transfer seamlessly from speaker to speaker, so much so it fools your mind. Now Audyssey is not perfect, switch the measurement from feet to meters, it measures in .03m increments and some times (if you have a trained ear) you have to make .01m adjustments like I did on my surround backs (+.01m each). Pick up the old THX demo disc, put on the dts-ES Matrix 6.1 Jungle Sound sample or the Star Wars: Episode 1 Pod Race scene to test the sound communication between your fronts and surrounds to surround backs, mix it with Dolby Surround for surround back channel separation. Finally set LFE+Main and 60 hz crossovers for fronts and center channels and 80 hz for all surrounds, I left the Atmos heights at Audyssey recommended settings and you are set.
I agree with you 100%. I also read that you shouldn't mess with distance and level after calibration as this would mess your delay. I also went into the rabbit hole of having everything equidistant and buying an spl meter. I found the audyssey app not very user friendly with very little explanation. Do you have the midrange compensation on or off? Do you use roll off 1 or 2? I use the filter at 500 hz on all speakers and leave it alone for the sub, what do you do? My sub and right front speaker are set at the wrong distance, for the sub 1 meters difference when i checked with the tape measure, for the right front speaker about 10cm, should i rerun the calibration?
Hello, 3 years late, my receiver doesn't support the Audyssey app so I can't answer. But everything I said about the calibration process still holds true. I recently added 7 channel amplification (170 watts per @ 6 ohms) and let the AVR handle the Atmos channels and O...M...G!!!! The one thing I did different that COMPLETELY changed the game was distance match AND Level match both subs (physically moving and adjusting volume knob until the calibration results were equal), I don't think I could get my system to sound any better! With 100% of the delays working together, I even get lost in listening to music now, its crazy good. I have the old mirage OMD 15 & 5s omni directional speaker 7 channel bed layer and it lives up to its name.
Outstanding. I have a Denon receiver on its way - same Audyssey set up. This was very helpful. I’ve always set speaker crossovers to 80Hz since getting into THX.
what are the advantages of running "Audyssey MultEQ XT32" instead of just going into manual setup and putting in the distances and changing the level using an SPL meter?
I just bought the Denon 3700H and some observations. While the setup guide is very user friendly it does have some flaws. Before that though let me suggest running the setup per Denon defaults. And if the Denon setup is new to you, as it was to me, (I used to use Pioneer Elite receivers and Pioneer uses their own setup software), let the Denon run automatically. Remember to run the speaker placement before the actual calibration though. So some thoughts; All consumer calibration programs are software based. As such the programs make certain assumptions, and while they do offer user options nothing is perfect. The first time I ran the program it was obvious that I did something 'wrong.' That is when I decided that I would re-run the program, but it was still screwed up. I then decided to forget the calibration, as such, and to familiarize myself with the actual software design. Then it all made more sense to me. After success I then left it like that for about a week. I did not change anything with it other than making some notes to explore, and what the pros/cons were of changing anything. I then began to change settings because I no longer feared 'undoing' them. I got really good at it and really putzed around 'at will, ' so to speak. And that brings me to yesterday when I thought I blew one of my 2 SVS subs, or worse yet, my receiver. I then remembered that last week when I was fooling around with the receiver, and suddenly, it seemed like the bottom of the bass simply fell out. Fortunately, one of the posts from Youthman had mentioned something about crossovers, and this fixed the problem. The problem was that the Denon software identified the wrong crossover frequency for my speakers. Once corrected it was like night and day. The nice thing about the Denon, and most likely all manufacturers, is that you can change the settings to off. Another option on the remote is a setting that offers a Pure mode (yellow button). I'm just not what the Pure mode specifically changes though . In conclusion it all boils down to what we, as consumers, want to hear - regardless of what the manual says and what the pundits say is 'best.' Thanks Youthman. PS - I am now experimenting with turning off Audyssey altogether and how that sounds to me. Another option is simply using an old friend of mine, Radio Shack spl meter, to see if I like those settings. I've been an audiophile for over 60 years so I have about 10 old setup discs laying around. Back then the only thing offered on these discs in terms of sound was distance and speaker level. To be continued....
I forgot to mention one serious flaw with the Denon and that is it runs HOT. I'm not talking warm I'm talking hot, even though my receiver is not enclosed in a cabinet. Fortunately my $30.00 Targus cooling mat does work well enough to mitigate this problem. But the cooling fan that Youthman recently reviewed has caught my attention.
@@Youthman i been told that changing distance and level after calibration are messing the delay with audyssey and that is not recommended. Apparently the microphone from audyssey is more accurate than a basic SPL meter.
Nah, that's mostly audessay Fandom speaking. I mean, even if you used the best auto - calibration system in the world there's really no guarantee that you would actually liked it. Just tweek the heck out of it to your personal taste!
Good Demo. On the Denons , people have discovered that if you want Auro 3D to work correctly Front and Rear, you have to use the Front Height & Rear Height setting . Also the VOG channel is Sub 2 Out.
That is correct. I mentioned that in one of my previous videos and mentioned Channa (Techno Dad) Video. I have switched back and forth between Dolby Atmos and Auro-3D and the Atmos usually sounded better in my setup but I do not have a VOG speaker installed.
@junexdaman6671 after 4 years how's the 7013 running, had any problems? I bought a new one in 2023 for 900.00 love it so far, 7.1(looking forward to 7.1.4 soon) good video here as well.
Audessey says my suborder is 25 foot from my listening position when in actual fact its about 9 ft, however it sounds right. When I changed the subwoofer to actual distance, it just didn't sound right. Also the front sound stage especially the centre speaker just does sound as good as the back soundstage. Like the rear is more powerful than the rear. The cohesion though is great how do I address the issues without making drastic changes..like bumping the center to way up in the plus range, which is completely out from the rest of the settings.
Also Audyssey's 'Dynamic volume' should be left off initially until the user gets comfortable with the calibration. And can be turned back on later for nighttime listening, etc... It's one of the choices Audyssey gives you right after doing a calibration. I think it defaults to off and should be left there... Just wanted to mention it since I think you skipped showing that screen-choice that pops up after the calibration... Great video for newbies!
I agree Randy. I thought it was strange that it didn’t ask me about Dynamic Volume because I’ve always turned that off. Maybe because I had already ran Audyssey, it didn’t ask? Not sure.
What do you guys think about speaker bungs ? My new speakers are against a back wall and can't go anywhere else , I'm going to use the foam bungs (q acoustics 3050i)
Do you actually need to make sure that audyssey calibrates the sub to around 75 db or can you press next? What happens a if you press next without setting the sub to 75db?
My receiver manual tells me to close windows. But I usually listen to music and movies with my windows open. So, would calibrating with closed windows to reduce background noise be beneficial to me? Wouldn’t it change the acoustic characteristics of my room, considering that I listen with open windows?
I was expecting after calibration of your 8 locations that later on when you have people watching a movie you could simply select seat 1 and 2(for example) so the system could optimize for those two seats. Seams like they really dropped the ball since they have the calibration already recorded and designated seating would increase the experience....Another great video...
Your videos are fantastic and very informative. I have the sr8012 and ran calibration just as you suggested. I am having one issue... When I listen to music in Virtual mode (2 mains and sub) it caps the volume at 67. Before I ran the calibration it did not do that. If I listen in other modes, Direct, etc it will go up much higher and doesn't stop at 67. Any thoughts on how I could correct this? Thanks so much in advance!
I hv a 5.1.2 setup.2 top tear not dolby enabld.i m using denon x4500h nd dont hv zone 2/3 spkrs nd dont intend to.which amp assign i will use- 7 chnl+zone2/3 or 9 channel assignment.one more thing if i could use my top rear spkr set up as dolby surround, would there b any prob?
I have a Marantz 6006, however, it seems to have no dynamic range at all. Ran Audyssey numerous times, also tried to setup sound envelope myself through manual config. Still sounds like an AM radio. I'm piping in my Marantz 2252B and using that for the front 2 speakers, and the other 5 channels I am using the 6006 as normal. I wish I knew if I am spoiled by 1970's amp tech, or is my 6006 just not working well.
Thanks for the video. I want to make sure I understand your suggestions on setting the crossover. Even though I have full range front speakers I should set the crossover to 80hz and set the speakers to small? I thought that setting the speakers to large would ensure they would produce the full sound the speaker was able to produce. And I was under the impression that making adjustments after the audyssey set up would defeat the audyssey adjustments made.
Question if i use only the surround speakers. (i have no speakers in the middle) Then do i only need the surround'back' pluginns, or only the 'surround' pluginns? (for the info, my setup is with 2xfront 1xcenter and 2xsurroundspeakers)
ColonielLizardT4 I know what you mean. I had a Pioneer Elite SC-LX901 ($3,000 Flagship AVR) and had major HDMI issues. Also the sound quality is not even comparable to a Denon/Marantz. I now have a Marantz SR8012 and lovee it.
Before using Audyssey setup, I suppose it would be good to get the speaker placement the best possible, primarily the Sub. Also to then get the phase and level matched with front. Is it required to get the rest of the speaker distance and levels matched as well and if so at what level should the master volume be set at in doing this. Basically any setup steps before starting Audyssey measurements .
I have never done a Marantz setup. I like the way they have the setup screen for Audyssey , pretty cool. I set my Integra the same way as you, changing my speakers to 80Hz. I have often wondered about my subs tho, 80 or 120? Thanks for explaining it, and also thank you for taking the time to make this video.
I have a question to ask you I need to find a auddessy mic for my receiver as it didn't come with one as I bought the receiver Second hand and I can't purchase anything online and I've been searching everywhere for one
By going to manual setting is that gonna over ride the Audyssey setting? Or ,do I have to go to Audyssey setting and hit restore? Then go back to manual and make adjustments? Thanks.
If you make manual adjustments, it will just change the original Audyssey settings. For example, Audyssey thinks your mains should be 40Hz but you change them to 80Hz. All of the other Audyssey settings (EQ, trim levels, distances etc) remain the same. If you buy the Audyssey App, you can run Audyssey multiple times and save each one and easily switch between those saved settings. Are use this since our review a lot of equipment and change out amplifiers, processors and speakers often. It’s easy for me to go back to my original settings for my equipment once I’m finished with the review using the Audyssey app
I haven’t really used dynamic eq in my denon. I do use the 500hz curtain though. So you find the bass ok with dynamic eq on? Not too boomy like some say? Thanks.
@@Youthman thanks. One last question! I’m using a denon s760h. Would yoi suggest using Flat instead of Reference? AND limit the eq frequency correction at 500hz? I just want to confirm because i heard someone say that any changes i make to the eq will not be in effect unless it is on Reference. But they could be wrong. Appreciate the info. Thanks!
Very nice video. Can you please advise me what settings should I choose to listen background sounds clearly (wind, water, birds i.e high frequency sounds) in movies. Sometimes background music suppress the background natural sounds. Your reply is highly appreciable. I have Marantz SR7013 receiver and mainly used for movies.
Really enjoyed the video. In regard to subwoofer matching, I have heard some people recommend to leave the gain slightly in the red. What is your take on that? Thank You
Curious why you set the Dynamic EQ to on? In your other video, Audyssey got it wrong, you said you turned Audyssey off because it trimmed the center channel too low. I had the same issue and turned off the Dynamic EQ after seeing your video. The levels were much more accurate because there was no compression for the late night viewing feature with Dynamic EQ. Why did you leave it on and how exactly did you turn Audyssey off to correct what they got wrong. Thanks for the video. I’m still working out minor issues.
Hey Jerry, Since that first video regarding Audyssey getting it wrong, I learned a few things about technique and placement of the microphone that allowed me to achieve much better results. Audyssey still tends to get the crossovers wrong and levels aren’t always 100% accurate so I still adjust those. I believe what you were thinking of is dynamic volume instead of dynamic EQ. I do not recommend Dynamic volume but Dynamic EQ is great.
One question I've already had is should I be in the room when Audyssey runs the initial calibration? I always stand in the door way and try and hide the other side of the door whilst it's running. Is that lunacy?
Hi have a question on the pre amp marantz 7706 when I do the speaker calibration I have 4 crown drive core 2 for my fronts center surround and Dolby top speakers on the crown amps do I set the volume (gain) @ max when calibrating?
I just run Audyssey on my SR8012 it sounds good but I have to turn the volume up to 70 % to get descent sound would you recommend to increase the volume on each speaker in the level section in the settings as they are all in minus eg front right is -6 centre is -4 left is - -6.5
I just downloaded the MultEQ Editor app. My receiver is a Marantz SR6014, so it's definitely compatible. I ran through the calibration, and I have a question about room correction results. Looking at the curve comparison, it appears that the correction was applied in the lower frequencies, but at around 500-600 Hz and above, the "after" and "before" curves are identical. Same goes for all non-subwoofer speakers. What do you think might be the problem?
Totally agree with your setting ! I have always doing the same setting! Just a question I have 2x ATM jamo in atmos and i have put 150hz in the setting! Do you recommend me to try 80hz ! Thx in advance ✌️ if you could made a video about MultEQ apps because there’s a tons of options and customization then most of peoples don’t know how to set it ! That’s will be appreciate ✌️
Thank you for the video. A suggestion, An update in the description confirming this review overrides your earlier video on "Audyssey got it wrong" would be helpful, instead of us trying to figure it out from the dates and searching the comments to confirm that. Now to my question, At what level should the master volume on the processor be set when starting the Audyssey XT32 calibration ? Can Audyssey XT32 correction be limited to below the 200 Hz range, is there an option to set that and then calibrate ? My processor is a Marantz 8088 if that helps.
Thank you for the suggestion. I just change the original video to unlisted so it will no longer show up on RUclips. I also added updated video to the description. It does not matter what your initial volume is set to when you begin Audyssey. Yes you can easily add a “curtain” to limit what frequencies Audyssey corrects using the Audyssey App ($20). Another big feature with the Audyssey App is each calibration can be saved and easily loaded so you can run Audyssey with one set of settings, rerun it again with different settings and easily switch between the two.
Excellent video, thank you. After setup, my surround sound with movies is excellent but when I play music, like Sirius xm, it sounds like there is a blanket over my speakers. Any advice? I’m running Paradigm cinemas
For example my set up in the MultEQXT32 I have L/R Bypass, Dynamic EQ on, Reference level offset 0dB, Dynamic Volume Medium, Audyssey LFC ON and Containment Amount 1. The only reason that I have MultEQXT32 in L/R Bypass is because I have Audio Quest Rocket 33 cables for my front L and R. What’s your opinion and your set up?
Great video 👍 I ran audyssy the other day. I got 2 towers and 1 sub. When it was doing it's thing it detected the towers and the sub but when it finished all that was working was my 2 towers and not the sub it felt like it was turned off?
Hi again, just finished calibrating with the two subs... A) 8500 sets one sub to -6 the other to -8, after having both set in the 75 db range. Is that ok or should I try something else? B) distance is totally of. Thanks a lot for your help...
So do we need to even use the audessy set up if you change the settings anyway? I watched many videos on the audessy and everyone one of them went and changed it to more proper specs so why even use it if it seems to get it wrong most of the time?
I use Audyssey because it applies EQ setting, not just levels, crossover and distance. IMO, Audyssey will get you close, then tweak to make it even better
Quick question, just purchase the sr6015 and my 2 subs also was read too high, however when adjusting the volume from the subs the readings were all over the place and infact remain too high unless I turned them off. Any tips on what I might be doing wrong or how to remedy this issue?

@sawolaja65 yes, I just got a denon and was not sure if I got all of the oomph out of it after a couple of calibrations, setting up manually.

Not that I am aware of. But I am not 100% certain.
@@Youthman
REW should provide clarity...👍
Youthman was able to dial in his favorite settings using similar Klipsch speakers but to me the real strength of Audyssey is getting different speakers to play nice together. I have a mix of horn loaded Klipsch speakers and some dome tweeter speakers and they have different efficiencies. After I screw up the setup and things sound bad all I have to do is run Audyssey and they sound great again.
Awesome. I just got the Denon X4500H with Audyssey XT32. Can’t wait to set it up. Thanks for the great information. Always enjoy your videos.
Did you manage to use the Audyssey XT32 ? I just bought the X3600H and it hangs while "Analyzing" at 60% point.
You are the BEST! Thank you for your detailed walkthrough with the speaker setup. I'm going to try out my speakers now!
Great video. It's nice to hear someone who knows what they're talking about. I've been using Audyssey on my AV Receivers and processors for years now, and there's tons of misinformation about it, so it's nice to see someone spread the truth. (LPF for LFE, I'm lookin' at you!)
Though I always go in and "fix" the issues I've had with Audyssey setting speaker size and crossover, I've never thought to level match with an SPL meter too.
TheReverendSlim THANK YOU for sharing!
My Marantz 8015 should be here this week. I can't wait to set it up..
Thanks for the set-up demo...

Congrats Nick!
Thank you.
I had this problem before and all I did was ensure that my blu-ray player was set to bitstream and it work.
Sir,
Audyssey room correction is enough.
Note2:
After calibration you must set that all speakers are small.
Fantastic video! I was dead set on a Yamaha Aventage, but now I won't buy anything without this type of calibration.
You are the BEST! Thank you for your detailed walkthrough with the speaker setup.
My SR8012 will be here Friday can't wait to set it up and tip the house over!
MOTOWN enjoy it 👌
Oh yeah! Let me know how you like it
Great Video ! On 16:05 time an explanation of LPF for LFE adjustment. On my Subwoofer there is knob for crossover settings. From 80hz to 120hz and in addition an LFE position. What to adjust if the processor is on 120hz with LFE enabled ? Thanks.
This is great, Youthman. I just scored the sr6012. Looking forward to setting it up and hearing the difference from my current Pioneer!
Awesome Jonas! Congrats. Let me know what you think of it after you get it setup
Yeah, he clearly does not know what he is talking about.
What about the sub though? Does it even matter?
I thought Audyssey says to not adjust speakers down e.g. from 120hz to 80hz but it's ok to adjust speakers up e.g. from 40hz to 80hz.
Fantastic video, explain everything really well, and make the "going by your own ear part" a lot less scary
Great video mate , ill be setting up my 1st denon avr tonight, and I'll be following your advice to the letter.
Thanks
Doesn't Audessey recommend to increase but not to lower crossovers? If crossovers are set at 110 or 150, we do not need it lower them to 80hz as per audyssey? Also there is an option to select the curve. Would you prefer a FLAT curve?
Ok so sub volume for calibration to 50% - got it. What about the sub crossover (the knob on the sub - what do I set that to for calibration)?
Thanks
Hi I have a Denon X4500H do you please have any advice on how to set up Audyssey for two older Yamaha YST-SW305 subwoofers - I note in the video you used 1 subwoofer
I just added a 2nd subwoofer to my denon x2300w but I'm not 100% sure how to activate the second sub. There is 2 sub pre outs so I assumed everything was simple🤷♂️
TY for the tip on up firing ATMOS speakers.
Next I built a (Level) mic stand with the Audyssey recommended measuring positions which are,
1. center listening position (all at ear "level" btw)
2. 2 ft. to the right from center
3. 2 ft. to the left from center
4. 2 ft. forward from position #3
5. 2 ft. forward from position #1, the center position
6. 2 ft. forward from position #2
7. Audyssey recommends 6 inches behind the center position and 1 foot to the left (3 1/2 inches behind worked for me)
Congrats!
@@Youthman and don't tell anyone, but Klipsch RP-500's en route as well - schhh 😂
Good thing these comments are not public for everyone to see 😂
what are the advantages of running "Audyssey MultEQ XT32" instead of just going into manual setup and putting in the distances and changing the level using an SPL meter?
I just bought the Denon 3700H and some observations. While the setup guide is very user friendly it does have some flaws. Before that though let me suggest running the setup per Denon defaults. And if the Denon setup is new to you, as it was to me, (I used to use Pioneer Elite receivers and Pioneer uses their own setup software), let the Denon run automatically. Remember to run the speaker placement before the actual calibration though. So some thoughts;
All consumer calibration programs are software based. As such the programs make certain assumptions, and while they do offer user options nothing is perfect. The first time I ran the program it was obvious that I did something 'wrong.' That is when I decided that I would re-run the program, but it was still screwed up. I then decided to forget the calibration, as such,
and to familiarize myself with the actual software design.
So after all that do you turn your sub back to level? My Paradigm has a notch in the middle it sits at which I assume is level.
Wow, your home theater 'setup' is quite impressive. Thanks for the vid! :)
Thank you, here is a complete room tour ruclips.net/video/9rQxNd1Lf38/видео.html
Do you have a video on tips running audyssey setup on an X3800 or something similar with XT32?
When setting up the Audyssey, should I set it up with just the AV receiver, or AV receiver with an amp? With or without sound panels?
Any special recommendations for folks in apartments without a subwoofer?
Yes, low volume. Unfortunately apartments do not have the best sound proofing between units.
I got my sr7013 yesterday for 1300usd. Sooo love it!
Congrats!
@junexdaman6671 after 4 years how's the 7013 running, had any problems? I bought a new one in 2023 for 900.00 love it so far, 7.1(looking forward to 7.1.4 soon) good video here as well.
@@Robert-k1g it died after 3 years. I mean center and surround backs not working anymore. No one can repair in where I live rn
@junexdaman6671 that's sad, just hang on to it, it can be repaired.
Do you run the receiver setup first then the Odyssey app
That is strange. The only volume limiter I know is in the Setup > Audio > Volume

A walk-through using the Audyssey editor app would be nice, and what you can do with the app that you can’t do from the reviver.
With dual subwoofer will it calibrate each individually
For the stereo music is better to cut the lfe (sub) at 80hz with Front large and lfe main isn t it?
What about dynamic eq and dynamic volume.? Like or not if like what settings?
I shared in the video I prefer Dynamic EQ On but Dynamic Volume Off. Try both ways and see which you prefer. No right or wrong.
Mr youtman..odyssey has set a 40hz speker. then we set the manual to 80hz whether it works to 80hz? although oddessy on?
Question if i use only the surround speakers. (i have no speakers in the middle) Then do i only need the surround'back' pluginns, or only the 'surround' pluginns?
(for the info, my setup is with 2xfront 1xcenter and 2xsurroundspeakers)
Dear sir do one video for speaker frequency response for what crossover settings to receiver and processor
I'm planning on getting a Denon receiver for the first time ever! I'm coming from Pioneer as sadly Pioneer ain't what it used to be.

I know what you mean. I had a Pioneer Elite SC-LX901 ($3,000 Flagship AVR) and had major HDMI issues. Also the sound quality is not even comparable to a Denon/Marantz. I now have a Marantz SR8012 and lovee it.
Hell I had the SC-LX801 same HDMI issues and Airplay didn't work unless I reset the unit! My SR8012 will be Friday
MOTOWN...I think you will be very pleased with the SR8012. I know I am
Yeah I just downloaded the Manual last night and now reading all 346 pages! LOL
Oh mercy
Before using Audyssey setup, I suppose it would be good to get the speaker placement the best possible, primarily the Sub. Also to then get the phase and level matched with front. Is it required to get the rest of the speaker distance and levels matched as well and if so at what level should the master volume be set at in doing this. Basically any setup steps before starting Audyssey measurements .
This made a big difference in sound for my set up. Good video.
Awesome!
Glad the content is beneficial. Turn the cover on your actual subwoofer up to 120Hz or you will be missing content from the LFE channel.
I have a question to ask you I need to find a auddessy mic for my receiver as it didn't come with one as I bought the receiver Second hand and I can't purchase anything online and I've been searching everywhere for one
There are several on Ebay as we speak.
@@Youthman Thank you youthman sir
Hi good day how did you go to the calibration page
Hit the set up menu on your remote
Good video ,Hope many people get benefited out of this video
Thank you kindly
I haven’t really used dynamic eq in my denon. I do use the 500hz curtain though. So you find the bass ok with dynamic eq on? Not too boomy like some say? Thanks.
Every room will be different. Try both and see what sounds best in your room. It’s preference
Thank You
What Do you think for a 2 .1 stereo/sub system with audissey measurement? NR1609 with audissey EQ or SR6013 with audissey XT32?
You are awesome youthman!!
I lost my Audyssey mic. Which mic can I use instead?
One question I've already had is should I be in the room when Audyssey runs the initial calibration? I always stand in the door way and try and hide the other side of the door whilst it's running. Is that lunacy?
It’s not going to make much difference. Sometimes I sit in the back row or lay on the floor. Other times I go outside and run it from the Audyssey App
@@Youthman thanks man. Not sure what best practice is. Any plans for a video on speaker placements or do you think that’s been done to death?
Hi Youthman.... what volume level do I use before audyssey setup? Also, what crossover level do I set back ofsubwoofer before audyssey setup?
Hi have a question on the pre amp marantz 7706 when I do the speaker calibration I have 4 crown drive core 2 for my fronts center surround and Dolby top speakers on the crown amps do I set the volume (gain) @ max when calibrating?
In the past, when I had QSC amps, I was told to turn them to max so I would assume yes.
@@Youthman ok cool thanks bud i appreciate you.
What kind of tripod did you use? A camera tri pod? Is there a certain size?
Got the answer to my question on, can the Audyssey filters be limited to a given frequency range. That can be done when using the Audyssey MultiEQ App
Correct
What if I have two subs? Can one play above 80hz and one play below 80hz.
I love my 8012, the sound is amazing.
With Marantz SR 6010 how do I just run pair of speakers basically turn off the rest and run just one set?
I am geting s apor of rf-280:s with a center Chanel and sub should I still set the floor speakers as small ones when calibrating? @youthman
Hello, I got a Denon 6400H. and have a Klipsch RP4000F series, please guide me for SUB calibration for this RF series of speakers.
I lag every mine set to Reference but I need to try Flat as apparently it boost the highs. Not sure which I prefer until I try both
Great video 👍 I ran audyssy the other day. I got 2 towers and 1 sub. When it was doing it's thing it detected the towers and the sub but when it finished all that was working was my 2 towers and not the sub it felt like it was turned off?
Hmmm that is odd. Did it turn them off or are they just too low?
@@Youthman I don't know there was nothing from the sub at all, just my towers? I'll have to try it again.
Do you set the subwoofer crossover lever on the back of the subwoofer to bypass?
Yes, then set your crossover in your AVR or processor
Lpf for lfe to 120hz? Thanks a lot for your help!
@@Youthman Ahhh...that makes sense. Sorry if it was a dumb comment. And thanks for all your great videos. Great info!
@@shiloc7james363 Definitely not a dumb question. Glad to help whenever I can.
Quick question, just purchase the sr6015 and my 2 subs also was read too high, however when adjusting the volume from the subs the readings were all over the place and infact remain too high unless I turned them off. Any tips on what I might be doing wrong or how to remedy this issue?
After running Audessey. Do you use your AVR or the back of your subs to raise the gain on the subs????
