      In the Final Four against Iowa in 2023, Staley pretty much sat there, apparently mystified, as Iowa beat the Gamecocks.

      Why are you thanking Coach Staley? She always compliments Chloe and doesn't she start? Coach doesn't recruit them if she doesn't have confidence in their ability. Chloe is a great talent. I love her feistiness and confidence. With experience and strength and conditioning, the next 2 years will be awesome for her.

    When your young team can find ways to win, when they are not playing their best, that says a lot about the coaches, the players and the program.

    Coach Staley, I've been watching South Carolina since Aja Wilson and Alana Coates were playing for you, caught your game by chance on ESPN and I have followed your Gamecocks ever since, watch every game and I am impressed to say the least. Your girls play hard and never quit and they stay focus throughout each game and that shows in the way you coach! Awesome job and keep up the dominance in the SEC. Go Gamecocks!

    Great game. Georgia did not play on their heels. Excellent attempt with the #1 team. Gamecocks played through a tight first half and controlled the second half.

    I love the way Dawn lays it out. She has no problem stepping on toes especially when it comes to giving credit when credit is due but also in a positive way that says one person is not basketball everyone contributes not just one person so you give the credit and move on and lets showcase the other players that have big moments.

    Her energy is how the team plays...
    She knows the game and is highly cerebral and strategic...
    However I don't think they will survive those bad starts against elite teams...
    I think she needs to light that fire at the start of the game and let them and the crowd carry it forward...

    • @gradeafun
      @gradeafun 8 месяцев назад +10

      It's tough because even if they Review film of teams, those teams are changing their play and schemes specifically for SC. As long they stay close at the half, they are like GSW of old and adjust in the second half and go hard. That will be the rest of the season for them for sure.

    • @leonbrooker8150
      @leonbrooker8150 8 месяцев назад +8

      @@gradeafun I agree. They are going to get everyones best efforts regardless of their previous records so they have to play to the level of their opponents.
      When you're at the top you don't have the luxury of taking days off because you have a bullseye on your back...
      I'm a huge fan and have been for a long time and I want to see them have continued success because it really hurt last season when they lost to Iowa in the semi-finals and I don't want want these young ladies to fall victim to defeat because they didn't play their best...
      Success is not a sport it's a lifestyle and Dawn Staley is the epitomy of it....

    • @Okayyouwin

      What’s an elite team? Seems to me, all other teams have more than 2 losses, what’s elite about that?

    • @vikb3131
      @vikb3131 8 месяцев назад

      You think she doesn't "light their fire"? You think the fans don't "light their fire"? Have you been to a game in person? It's electric. Their slow starts have nothing to do with unlit fires😅. They are well prepared but they just get every team's best. Teams are constantly scheming to beat them. So, this young team is having to change their scheme in the moment. Kudos to them and the coaching staff for being able to do it thus far. I would love to see them go undefeated and win the chip. We must give this young, learning team some grace. As fans, we must be mindful that this team is well beyond what it should be and what was expected of it.

      No I've never been to a live game at C.L.A. and if they were playing all there games at home then I would feel a little more confident about the outcome...
      However I do have eyes and what I see is that the team is mirroring Dawn Staley's energy and the initial fans energy is sustained off of the team's effort and execution...
      It really doesn't matter were you play if you don't have the right mentality when you step on the court your talent will be neutralized...
      So what I have noticed from watching the games at home on my television is that if they aren't playing well then it affects the energy of the fans...
      I know every coach has their style and Dawn Staley has been VERY successful and will continue to be but her system is only as good as the execution and when the players are making self inflicted errors such as they have done in previous games it keeps the game closer than it should be and it builds the confidence of the opposing team...
      And those players as well as their coaches are engaged from beginning to end.
      This game was in the balance until approximately half way through the 4th period.
      We have had several games that have been to close because of self inflicted errors that allowed the other team to stick around.
      These young ladies are amongst the best so they are not new to what it takes to win...
      They have the talent...
      They will have to maintain the will because like well all know every team they play is going to give their best effort...
      And there are teams with similar talent and success that will not fold at or near the end because they too know what it takes to win...
      I'm not saying she should bet out there on a tyrant because as you mentioned earlier about half of the team consists of freshmen and sophomores...
      But because they are young they will need more guidance and encouragement than the more experienced players throughout the game....

    3:51 She coaches outside of game time. Her team is prepared! They are organized. That's why she is level-headed on the bench.
    Her squad looked tired during the first half. They are entitled.

    Details matter when you get to the one and done stage. Games like this matter because of the mix of mistakes fundamentally throughout the game and capitalize on turnovers and missed opponents scoring opportunities. The one thing that remains to be seen is how SC meets the moment in both post-season SEC and NCAA tournament. Its a different type of pressure compared to regular season. They're very young as coach said.

    Dawn Staley says she is not a screamer, I believe her but in the Tennessee game I think she was yelling at her players and of course the referees for such a great job they did, LOL.

      What we need are more understanding fans. They can't be perfect every game or win every game by 20+ points. Teams have had a whole season to watch them as well and make adjustments. They get every team's best efforts. If you are a true fan, you know they are not the same style team as LAST year. They have shooters but shooters have off games as well. Only one team will win the chip. I wish it could be my Lady Gamecocks every year but that defies logic and common sense. Win or lose, I support them!! Unfortunately, pseudo fans are already circling like vultures and preparing a false narrative of this team. They are waiting and ready to attack Dawn and these young ladies if they fall short in their pursuit of a championship.

    If i was in that locker room, I'd rather the screaming than the silent disappointment. I bet it hurt to have to sit and take accountability for bad shots, passes and rotations on defense. I'd be like come on coach, dont make me say it. 😂😂😂

      Well Dawn have said a few times that she see some flaws in her team at practice but they are winners at one point almost saying she don’t see a number 1 team in them. Sooo I think we seeing some of what Coach Staley been seeing in practice. It certainly looks like we going to slip up soon. I just hope it’s not march madness

      With fans like you, they sure don't need enemies. Have you ever watched competitive sports before? You can't be perfect every game. They're experiencing a little lull right now. Every team hits a wall. Real growth comes from learning how to play through these tough times. It can't always be easy. Many teams have had challenging games this season. Unlike SC, they were unable to find a way to win.

      South Carolina has too much talent. I didn't feel like Georgia can out 😮play S.C.
      S.C. can beat themselves. The season is long season. They are getting everybody's A game. And doing the basics well keeps you in the game if not helps wins the game.
      Like coach said they are finding a way to win. Even not playing their best. That is saying a lot about this team we enjoy routing for.

      My opinion is maybe we need to start two bench player, why, because they are not really a bench players. As the saying goes, wait until next year when we will have even more starters sitting the bench.
