Rusty, I wouldn't call trump's unrehearsed ramblings "speeches". The only times he sounds even remotely coherent are when he's reading something steve bannon wrote on a teleprompter. Trump didn't do objectively well in the gop debates. He was routinely booed and laughed at. He won the primaries because the only people paying attention were right-wing rubes like you, not the general populace. Trump was FOR intervening in Libya you schmuck! There's video evidence of him practically screaming about it. I hope he brings that up so America can see what a lying hypocrite he is. The problem is that the format has to be 'balanced', so when the moderator asks Hillary a question, she will answer it. Donald will blather nonsense through it. To try to get a real answer could take 5,6,7 god knows how many attempts. This would appear biased against Trump, so they would just have to move on. I'm not optimistic.

In short, it must be a defensive approach based on her strengths with ruthless but civilized counterattacks based on his weaknesses. Finally, interrupt him all the time with substance. That will undoubtedly bring his dark side. Show no mercy.

I disagree with Mark's "smirk" advice to Clinton, that type of smugness is what makes us sick of politicians, especially republicans. Although it's tough not to smirk authentically at Trump's absurdity, all she has to do is be the adult in the room and he'll crumble. She's been through a lot of smearing over the years, she has much thicker skin then he does and can handle it from Trump, that alone will make him crumble.
