@@markrosenquist8259 like…a lot friendlier. Used to hear stories of guys back in the day getting ganged on by party dudes from any house just trying to walk up the beach haha.
@@robpace881 haha yeah. Surfings changed so much, sort of miss the old days..sort of don’t. Feels like as soon as I graduated from under the generation above me it all softened up so much and all the respect in the water went away with it. just a tip when you popped up at 3:57 you stood up way to far back on your board and when u do that it slows you down and you won't be able to catch any speeds I know this is awhile ago and you've probably improved by then
Good job guy, now you the difference from watch it from the beach and living through it! Way to go dude, good narration. A lot of kooks think their to badass to say those things. Keep on trying, you’ll get a good drop in and there on out you’ll go back and never gets any less scary!😉
14 ft. faces? Looks more like 3-5 to me. I surfed there in the 90s and the locals were pretty gnarly, looks like the new generation chilled a bit.😂. Really good waves there. Props for giving it a go since you are newbie. 🤙
lol thanks. There was one kid who claimed that I would be "banned" from the beach if I didn't catch one that day. I think they were in the 6-7 ft. face range realisticly (GoPro makes waves look super tiny) but I'll keep charging and one day I'll be surfin' double overheaders
I grew up a mile from there. That's where I learned to surf. Sorry but those are NOT double overhead. Maybe head high. And good thing it wasn't that big. Where you 'escaped' down the beach is what we call the 'Bowl". That's where BIG waves happen. I once saw Donald Takayama ride an easily 30 foot wave in the Bowl. We caught his board on the beach and waited to meet him. Incredible guy! We used to ride truly 8 foot soup where you can't see anything but foam. lol, ralphie we used to own that beach. Cops wouldn't come out.
😂 Not so sure about double overhead, maybe 4 or 5 from what I saw. and you're leaning and standing way to far backwards at your take off because your scared to commit and that will always lead to getting tossed..
If it's breaking out in front of the jetty for the harbor it's overhead . I surfed big waves there when I lived in Oxnard . I actually bought a surfboard from the surf shop in silver strand which was a chanel island surfboard . Never had a problem with locals and this was in the 1980s . I surfed a day when it was breaking way past the jetty where you were located . Maybe 10 foot faces or even larger . I was scared also but I took off on a huge wave of a set . I went down the face and the wave created its own wind . The wave took me half way down silver stand beach . The waves size and swell direction made that wave act as a point break and why I got such a long ride helped by it's size I did not paddle back out as just the walk back was lengthy .
@@janderson3918 I haven't been out in the water with my gopro recently... I guess the sessions have been too short lol. This winter I'm gonna film though. Hopefully get some nugs!

I want to be supportive like most of these people are in the comments, but it would help if it seemed like you weren't lying for dramatic effect, or did you really think those were 10-12 foot waves? Like barely if even as tall as the guy dropping in...keep it real and use your cajones and you will start seeing things more clearly. If a real double overhead set was charging at you, you and your wavestorm would be blasted back a good 50 yards. P.S. Disregard if this is a trolling kook parody
I miss strand! I grew up learning to surf there when i was like 7-10 years old! I surfed white water on the big days cause it was gnarly and on the smaller days it was the first break i ever paddled out past the break to a line up!
It seems as though the Silver Strand locals are a lot more accomodating than they used to be.
They were friendly enough, but I had a couple of dark glances at my wavestorm
Ha! I was thinking the same thing.

Thanks for the tip!!! I’ve improved some since then…. I just need to get used to both going left and the extra speed on larger waves..

I’m sorry but those faces are max 4-6 ft I surf there and it barely breaks at 12-14 ft

I’ve only been surfing for a year, so please don’t criticize. Surfline said 6-10ft faces, but it felt a lot bigger 😭
But I do appreciate the advice. I’m used to going right at 1-2ft c st😂. Please subscribe to follow my surfing journey/improvements

Yea..those wavestorms can be fun but once you get them out to the lineup you can be stuck in some heavy situations.
Yeah, they’re a lot more fun in smaller surf!
Definitely not DOH strand
My friend, there is a thing called clickbait

8ft wall of white wash haha those look like 4 foot waves. Just a tip the reports means 3-5 from the back not faces.
3-5 backs mean 8 ft faces lol

Do you still surf silver strand?
Definitely!! The best beachbreak waves you can get with the smallest crowd
@@kooksurfpov4013 I go to mondos but it's always super crowded. Maybe I'll try silver strand when I feel ready for that kind of waves lol.
Yeah mondos gets a bit heavy with the crowds and surf camps. Can be a bit hectic out there. On smaller days silver strand is perfect for beginners
Just make sure to watch out on the more sizable days because there’s some rip currents outnthere
