" Rock a Ballad " refers to a ballad sung by a rock singer or rock-style ballad . I was a junior high school student in 1978 when this song became popular . I miss those days . Here I'll tell you something interesting . In the original studio-recorded version , Ryuichi Sakamoto (坂本龍一) plays the keyboards and Yukihiro Takahashi (高橋幸宏) plays the drums . This was before the two formed Yellow Magic Orchestra . The bassist isn't Haruomi Hosono (細野晴臣) but someone else .
