hey Jimmy....I'm a mechanic, from Italy, to clean the grease very easily just use gasoline and a brush....i have an e36, axle shaft joint allways broke very easily with welded diff, try to finds diesel diff and axle shaft, the gearing is longer but it's indestructible !!! i think e36 (320d touring or so) parts will fits pretty easily...and it's cheap....
That grease is some good rust proofing leave it lol also I know the feels when you know somethings broken so you pull it in the garage and lift the car without even having the parts yet lol
Seeing as you was once a VW Kid (like myself and B-Hal) You should definitely get an mk4 R32 (or gti) and YELLOW is a must like he said. I only ever see the yellow ones a H2oi and/or anytime i go outta town and a random one drives by.
Chemical Guys All Clean will het that cleaned up pretty quickly. Mix it strong at 50/50. Buy a gallon of it & save the ozone by not using pressure packs.
If you're going to blow an axle you might as well blow it the right way and you sure did Jimmy. You think you can get one off of it m like that it will be a little thicker so stronger

You should get axle adapters so you can mount e34 axles. Makes swapping them 10 times faster and they are stronger.
