  • This is the first in a series of guitar builds I recently completed using unconventional materials for the body construction. This one uses MDF for the body frame, top, and back.
    The neck, tuners, and pickups are from GFS (guitarfetish.com).
    Full demo with sound coming soon. Thanks for Watching!

    This was a very slick idea. I always wanted to do a fender type acoustasonic type build just for fun, to see what it would sound like. I applaud your efforts mate, and you guys for using mdf. Who cares what materials you use as long as it sounds good. I ALSO would like to hear it acoustically. Cheers.

    Cool guitar, but I hate MDF for guitar building, unless it’s a template.

    the comments regarding MDF are short sighted ...danelectro didn't do too bad using masonite or hardboard as we know it in the UK

  • @nickdryad

    It’s a prototype right? It looks superb. Probably plays well. But a MDF is an insult to the craft.

    • @RickyHarline
      @RickyHarline 4 года назад +8

      People think the wood has more to do with the tone than it does. You heard danelectro guitars? They sound better than a lot of other guitars and they're built from masonite, which is basically MDF. Also, you heard cigar box guitars and shovel guitars? They sound amazing, too. It's a myth that you need expensive wood to have a good guitar and a stupid one at that, too.

    I cannot believe you made a guitar from MDF. Have you never heard of Spruce, Rosewood, Cedar, Maple...etc... etc...etc..

    • @paulvincentsongs
      @paulvincentsongs  4 года назад +5

      Tim, these guitars in the white series were intended to be prototypes for wood builds when I got around to it. That said, you're right, it's a lot of work just to end up with an MDF guitar! I did gig these guitars though and while the electric guitars sounded great, the acoustic was a bit of a fail. I think I've fixed that with the new wood version.

      @timhallas4275 4 года назад +1

      @@paulvincentsongs OK, I didn't know these were just prototypes. I think you should try birch plywood for the tops and backs. Good luck.

    • @dooleyfussle8634
      @dooleyfussle8634 4 года назад +1

      The way it's designed, the top and back have little to no influence on the sound of the instrument. MDF is just as good as birch ply or any other wood. Makes for an interesting experiment as the sound is all produced by the pickups and the vibration generated by the MDF pillar supporting the bridge/tailpiece. I'm here because I'm thinking of building a U bass using this technique, ie, building a body similar to this only using a floating bridge with a piezo pup and a tailpiece. I'll probably use cedar for the top, maple for the sides and birch ply for the back. I'm thinking of using the Marleaux body shape with a 21 inch scale.

    • @paulvincentsongs
      @paulvincentsongs  4 года назад +2

      @@dooleyfussle8634 This is exactly right. The concept was a stage acoustic that would not feed back. Having the bridge section isolated from the top accomplished that but relied completely on the piezo to create the sound. I could fix some of that with good electronics inside, but still the guitar behaved more like a solid body, and sounded like one. The new build has a full hollow body and a braced cedar top, along with a more traditional bridge, all of which provide the natural decay we are used to hearing on an acoustic instrument.

      @@timhallas4275 Tim, did you check out the Gulfstream III prototype vids? I used good quality ply for the top and back of that one and it came out sounding very good. I've left that body intact and it will get a baritone conversion neck in the near future. ruclips.net/video/TjDnD-ERVps/видео.html
