I have seen Kansas many times. They are incredibly tight. Brian May, of Queen, said of them " Incredibly well rehearsed band. I was watching them with Freddie and I was like 'are you seeing this? Fantastic music and they sounded like a f***ing record'"
So many great songs on this album. Closet Chronicles is not widely known, but one of my favorites. I love the artistic attention that the band gave to the inside sleeve of the album that had the song lyrics. It's beautifully done, staying with the old sailing ship theme. Someone put a lot of work into that extra detail as it was done long before any computer generated design tools.
Thanks for increasing your Kansas reactions Progdog! I heartily recommending anything from the first three albums (knowing you’ve hit some of the songs but trust me, there is not a bad song anywhere in there…try Icarus Bourne on Wings of Steel! Kansas was also famous for flawless live performances-try the double live album Two for the Show for live versions of these songs! Thanks again and good luck with the channel, I’m enjoying your journey!
Live versions of Closet Chronicles are even better, the version from " Two For The Show " is fire, the violin is more prominent(as it is with all live versions of Kansas music). The song is about former businessman Howard Hughes. The point about synths: Kansas' first five albums have a great deal of synth work on them(Both Kerry Livgren and Steve Walsh)on them, besides the stellar organ work from Steve Walsh, Livgren is the primary pianist Robby Steinhardt is the lead vocalist on Lightning's Hand, which is almost a prog metal song RIP Robby Steinhardt

Great album. I think Dust in the Wind is a true classic right up there with The Ode to Joy

Yes, they have 2 great singers: Steve Walsh, an incredible tenor & organist and Robbie Steinhardt, a baritone & classically trained violinist.
Lightnings hand is one of my favorite Kansas songs. Love how it flows right into Dust in the Wind.
If you want to see the “movie” version of Closet Chronicles, watch the movie “The Aviator” starring Leonardo di Caprio.
ah yes, I've seen it

thanks Jerry
Did you know that the Monkees were the first band to use a synthesizer on the song Valerie? Hard to believe…
I was a fan of the monkees as a kid but havent really paid them much attention since
Lightning's hand shows off the musicianship in the band. 6 all-star musicians. Much the same as YES and RUSH, just with more members.
Robby Steinhardt the violin player sings Lightning's Hand.
Shame the fade out has disappeared. Kansas was great at taking their fade outs and making great outros Live.
Kansas was the king of synthesizers in the U. S. During the 70s.
You should do a full review of their best album #4 Leftoverture!
