      Thanks so much Grant. He recently graduated from university with two degrees, one a Masters. He also recently bought his own house. I thought this would be nice in his rec room. He is learning to make his own beer now. You can make one of these Grant. Would be pretty cool in your new rec room.....Take care, Bluefin.

      Thanks Big Gaz. Good to hear from you. I hope you are doing well. My first kegerator was an old full size fridge I bought for $50. I had two taps through the door also. I had that for about three years until the fridge stopped working. I liked the space in that one......Take care, Bluefin 🍻

      Well.....I didn't think that through did I? He is learning how to brew. I said I would teach him and he can use my brew equipment but he has to make his own beer. I can't keep two kegerators going. He was very surprised when I brought it over to his house. He bought his own house a few months ago. I thought this would be good for his rec room. All his buddies like the beer I make so hopefully they like his beer too........Take care, Mike.

    My thought would be to do a full corny keg and a smaller 4L keg in one of these with a double tower. That way you have a full 5gal keg for brews you know you like, and a smaller 1gal for cheap experiments.

      Good idea but I have a double kegerator setup in the same type of fridge in my home. I built this one for my son. How did you know that you weren't going to hit any cooling coils or electrical wires when drilling through the top?

    • @mustang774
      @mustang774  2 года назад +2

      I did quite a bit of research online and there were no cooling coils in the top of this fridge. I followed several other builds on RUclips. I could see that the cooling coils were visible on a panel on the inside of the back. There is a test you can do with a paste made of cornstarch and a water to find cooling lines. Somewhere on YT, just do a search. I hope this helps you......Take care, Bluefin.

    Why didn't you leave th top on when drilling the hole? Seemed like an extra step that could have misaligned the whole.

    • @mustang774
      @mustang774  Год назад +1

      I wanted to drill partway from the inside and then finish going down through the top With the foam sandwiched between the metal top of the fridge and the plastic top, I was afraid the plastic my crack when drilling all the way up through the fridge. With the plywood sandwiched between the fridge and the top it is much more secure and the inside hole was my guide to a perfect fit. That was the way I thought would work best for me. There are many ways do do this. Whatever you are comfortable with is the way to do it. Thanks for watching....Take care, Bluefin.

    • @mustang774
      @mustang774  2 года назад +1

      I just checked out that model and it is pretty much the same only red. I would do it. As with anything like this do so at your own risk. The cooling plate is in the back of the fridge and is the same as my fridge. I don't anticipate any problems. Any more questions just ask. I would love to know how you make out with your build once it is finished. Good luck! .......Take care, Bluefin.

    Can you fit a regular sixth barrel or maybe even a slim quarter in ??

    • @mustang774

      Hello, I will measure it this evening when I go to my son’s place. I have the same fridge but it is full now with two kegs and a Co2 tank.....Take care, Bluefin.

    • @mustang774
      @mustang774  3 года назад

      I just measured the kegerator. my inside measurements are: 28.5 inches tall 17 inches wide and about 10 inches deep (the compressor hump is there) A slim quarter keg will not fit but I think a sixth keg will fit. a sixth keg is 23 3/8 inches tall by 9 1/4 wide. I'm not sure how tall the tap connection would be for a Sanke connection. I think it will fit. my regular Cornelius keg measures 23 inches tall by 9 inches wide. I hope this helps you......Take care, Bluefin.

    Hi there! I have a question How are the copper tubes being held up there inside the tower?

    • @mustang774
      @mustang774  2 года назад +1

      They are pretty much a friction fit but to ensure they don’t slip I used a couple of 1/2 inch copper pipe clips and used very small screws drilled just into the plastic ceiling of the fridge. I had a few in my toolbox. I’m sure the foil tape would work as well and would be easier. Just tape the copper pipes that lie against the ceiling. I hope this helps and feel free to ask if you have more questions.......Take care, Bluefin.

    Did you save any money DIY vs. buying a regular kegerator?

    • @mustang774
      @mustang774  2 года назад

      I did save some money but I had fun doing this project. Sometimes Costco has a Danby Kegerator on sale and it is slightly bigger and a little cheaper. Some brands of kegerators such as "True" are quite expensive but also a higher quality. I did already have the keg as I have four of them. I got good prices on the other parts by shopping around. How did you make the custom handle ??

    • @mustang774
      @mustang774  2 года назад +1

      I drilled a 5/16 inch hole in the bottom of a hockey puck and inserted a stainless steel a 3/8" UNC threaded insert into the hole and then screwed the puck tap handle on the faucet. it is that easy and you are finished! this will work on any material that you can drill into. Here is a link to what I used:
      www.ontariobeerkegs.com/tap-handle-insert.html Thanks for watching..........Take care, Bluefin.
