I've been fascinated with motor scooters and motorcycles all of my life and after 50 years I did the opposite of most people. After owning my last 3 cycles a 2002 1800 Goldwing, 1989 1500 Goldwing, and a 1975 Kawasaki 900 Z-1. I downsized to a 1996 Helix with 22,000 miles a few years ago and spent the first pre-riding season performing a complete replacement of anything needed to be completely road worthy which included new tires, all of the CVT system, and all fluids replacement. This one is a true classic and will be my last keeper in life as it is really fun to own, drive, maneuver, and is lightweight. I don't miss pulling in a clutch, all of that shifting gears, trying to balance over 800 pounds compared to 350 now, and I usually cruise at 55-65 mph effortlessly with a 75 + mph top end. Sure all of that power was a real rush in the past but I'm having more fun now while being satisfied with having a lot less.
I'm 18 and I recently bought a honda helix 1993 actually! it's such a blast to ride and just cruise around. Great video! I got my helix for $900 and a little under 6k miles. First Motorcycle/Scooter I've owned. Can't wait to put the miles on.
Holy shit 900 dollars and 6000 miles Christ bargain of the year.. Happy cruising brother 👍👍
Hey, great deal! Got mine, a 2000 with 10,000 mile's for a $1,000.
These bargain helix scooters in America with no mileage.... GRT buys...
You got a crazy bargain (I paid 400 myself 7 years ago because the previous owner didnt know what he had). Never sell It!
You are so right about the Helix,I bought a 2000 two months ago, and have already put 2000 miles on it! I leave for work three hours early every day just for the joy of riding around on land speeder Jetson looking fun mobile 😍
In 1987 I bought this Honda Helix 250 new. It was a great scooter for town or highway. In Iowa on colder days the front cowling keep me warmer. I wish I still owned it today😉
Just picked up a 1986 Honda Helix with over 20k miles on it. 7/10 condition
runs and drives and paid $350 bucks..... steal of the year!!!
Bought one new in 1987 in Okinawa, Japan. Drove it to work and it took both of us all over the island. Really enjoyed it. Not a fan of the higher speed, though. Followed a Japanese motorcyclist up the highway next to the South China Sea with a strong crosswind. He was tracking straight with his larger wheels while I was all over the lane. Brought it back to Illinois and sold it just before returning to our home in Florida. Wished I had kept it. It would have been great for the Jacksonville area ... though I preferred to slower side roads. Great scooter. Folks said I looked like Fred Jetson.
I've had 3 helix, my last one is a 2007 I've had it since 2010 with a top case it's my grocery getter but your not bringing many items from home Depot. Absolutely love it, also have a Honda reflex and shadow. Helix, the Cadillac of scooters.
nice video, am a helix fan and rider for 2 years now, in uganda, helix bikes are popular and most known for high speed(some people think its a 300cc bike), durability and easy to maintain. i have traveled almost three quarters of the country with it. i have owned various models of scooters, but the Honda Helix has never been challenged. though some of its spare parts are hard to find in our regions (brake lights, indicators, wind glasses). i really like, actually love my honda fusion/helix/spazio CN250. for whoever is willing to buy one, please don"t fall back. #OneHeart
mwanje timothy ...Make sure you change the oil every 1000 miles and it will last forever. Cheers.
I'll get in touch with u soon, just needed someone with it in my country
I agree this is the most comfortable and practical scooter ever made I added a backrest and a trunk. Best scooter ever made!
love it
Just acquired one of these to help fray fuel costs for myself. I love my Volvo 850 Wagon and my 06 Lincoln Sedan but nothing beats 58mpg!! Perfect commuter, errand runner, and cruiser.
I got a 2000 brand new… drove it about two years and upgraded to to a PC 800… then a year or two later for a Goldwing. Only after seeing this, I wish I stayed with my Helix!
Honda went all out to advertise these in the U.S. I have lived in Asia, and I just wish more Americans would see these as great options for around town errand machines. Comfortable, easy to operate, and spectacular mpg. Really fun, too!
I picked up a 1987 Helix to compliment and extend the life of my locksmith service van. The Helix trunk fits a fully loaded over the shoulder tool bag, cordless drill, and other projected job supplies. In the city loaded with me and tools I get about 59 mpg. Interestingly, the honda dealer here says mine is a bit of a rarity, built exclusively for the Canadian market, and somehow made it to the U.S.A. It has a factory spoiler, the odometer reads in Km, and dash panel has the name "Fatten" in the spots that normally say "Honda" and "Helix". The Helix name is however located on the hood and trunk.
The Helix has a lot of fans. I love the footbrake as well, I miss that on my 400 Burgman.
Great review . Just acquired one of these bad boys off of Craigslist for 1k has 16k miles but it’s in pretty great shape for a 34 year old bike
I always wanted one of these. Started with a Spree in 1985, then an Aero 125, Elite 150 and Reflex 250! Maybe some day...
just switched over from a Yamaha Vino and it is a real upgrade I love it.
I really want one of these!! Hard to find in my country, but man they are cool.
I had an 87.. loved it. I owned an 06 Majesty 400 and currently own an 07 morphous. They are slightly better.. but not by a lot
Got 87 for 400.00 with 17 k on it...just did tuneup and new trans weights...awesome few yrs...also have 87 with 460 miles on it...its gonna hit the road when my other sleds go down!
This dude is so cool. Just waiting for him to upgrade to some Tommy Bahama shirts.
They also changed the front brake caliper around 1991 and added a bracket to support the carburetor somewhere around 2000, not sure.
Better brake in 1994 on.
Pardon the expression the Honda Helix is basically skin wise a miniature Honda Pacific coast scooter it's basically the same exact trunk which is cool and for somebody like myself the helix is right up my alley or it's kissing sister the Honda elite 250 which is exactly the same motor just no storage as you can tell I've done a little bit of research
I have a 1991 example, just like that one, 50k miles, a collection of dents and scratches, frugal to run, trouble free and bullet proof... Best bike I ever had, so I for another one 😂
Great review! Simple and gets straight to the point. I almost pulled the trigger and bought one last month. Got a dirt bike instead but still want one.
Pretty fricking sweet...👍🏼
I'm gonna get me one...👌🏼💯✔
See one for 2,500 400 miles 1996 is that a nice deal ?? Was thinking about the year in question.
They are super hard to find. 2500 is top end. It better be perfect. You won’t regret it tho. They are wonderful machines
I see several for sale in my area on Craigslist. The problem is in FL you need a motorcycle endorsement to legally ride one, which I don't have. And as far as I know all training and testing has been cancelled due to the current situation.
E.Duane Mitchell yeah I feel that I live in Alabama and I just got a rare Honda Sports Bike a 1990 Honda Interceptor VTR 250 & I need to get my endorsement.
I have a 1986 with 3100 miles. Custom carburetor tuning.
for the custom air filter. 0 to 55 runs like a rocket. It's for sale if interested. James
Still have yours for sale? Where are you located?
So, what gun do you carry while riding?
It reminds me the taxi car from movie TotalRecall😂 classic piece of 80s😂
This was the very first motorcycle I ever had it was a 1986 and it had 14,000 miles on it and I had for a year before I moved up to a 2005 Yamaha V-Star 650
My 86 will start with kickstand down. Think they changed that later
The person I bought my Helix from disconnected the wire so you can start without pressing the brake.
I'm a 6ft 9inch big guy. What do you mean....does it fit on this Scooter?
Scooters in India are so sad, why aren't people making utility based stuff like this. Very good review by the way.
Hey man, can I ask what you paid for this beauty? This is morbid curiosity on my part because I bought an '86 with right near 10k on it for $1,000 but with dry rotted tires, bad front bearings and potentially an oil leak but possibly just an old or loose gasket on the drain plug. The engine and CVT seem great but with some idle issues that I think are due to a low idle, which I'll tune tomorrow.
I gave 1500 for this bike. Thanks for watching!
Just found one in the local marketplace for $3000, all original plastics with new replacements for most things (tires, filters, brakes, etc.), and 4700 miles... Should I go for it or is that too much for a first?
They are super hard to find! Offer $2500 and see what happens…
I am actively looking for one, can't seem to find anything under $2100 around Houston, they rather expensive
Baby goldwing !
Good stuff! 🇺🇸
Best scooter ever made.
EDIT : It's January 2024 and Kawasaki is releasing the Ninja Scooter, which looks BADASSS....
i want one so bad but all i can find are ones that are torn apart or the frames are just crushed and way to many ppl asking for way to much money for them its like ppl don't know how to price things anymore saw one that was in perfect condition long ago and they was asking for 34k boii they are dreaming XD
The Helix was produced only to 2007 and remaining inventory was exported only to southeast Asia at greatly reduce numbers those years so don't go by Wikipedia which is notoriously faulty.
I regret selling mine!
is this comfortable for tall people or am I wasting my time? it seems like in every video I see people don't have much legroom
I’m 6’2”
@@engineeredchannel5649 Awesome, thank you for the great review. I'm 6'2" as well. I found this video to be one of the best reviews for Helix. Sorry for the late reply I was in a bad mood and forgot about it.
I miss my helix, I should have never sold it
Can the Honda Helix ride on the interstate???
AGUAHOLIC RICK it gets up to 75 so speed wise yeah
Yes.. it will.. but take secondary roads. It's more fun
If you can, it can. The engine is understressed, meaning it can only deliver about 80% of the power it can make. You cant redline it. Go 70mph all day long and you wont hurt it. That said, interstate riding isnt for the inexperienced or timid.
@@jasonswiatkowski9127 i have the "super helix" a Yamaha Morphous . Basically the same concept.. just very slightly "improved". A couple of points. Top speed is slightly higher (5 mph or so) engine is slightly larger (249 vs 244) hp 21 vs 18. 13 inch wheels vs 12/10. Discs vs rear drum.
And i owned a helix for 2 years.
Cross winds make the helix dance.. but not the morphous. No issue to tho. Yes highway is fine.. but...i like 55-60 mph.
Im going to post another bit here.. ok.. can a helix do highway speeds.. yes.. and the engine will be fine at WOT for a long as you wish. (70-75mph) my morphous is designed the same way.. been there, done that. On both a a matter of fact. The question will be.. do you want a10 inch wheel spinning at that speed? It's fine.. but much faster and you really need a bigger wheel. The morphous and most other large scooters have larger wheels. 13 or 14 inch..
To me tho.. the idea is that i ride for fun. Even in my car i tend to drive 60 mph or so.. and prefer secondary roads to interstate highway. In a semi, ii have like 2 million verifiable, logged miles. Plus at least that is cars and on motorcycles. I HAVE SEEN LITERALLY EVERY INCH OF INTERSTATE I WISH TO! I just took a2000 mile trip and the ONLY time i saw the super slab was when crossing it. I literally drove the entire way with very little traffic. To be honest..i only have a 250cc yamaha because it will easily carry 2 adults.. i would rather have a CT125
Would you ever sell this please comment back
Yes, I am building another motorcycle so extra cash might come in handy.
So the super scooter would be a bad one to drop on your wife, right? Not that you would do that...
Arghhhh
Guns Up Review at least you were wearing a helmet for this vid!!
Trying . ? .
Relly ugly, to smal engine, to hevy and outdated
