I love how almost no one picked up on the "eh, it's ancient history now" joke... considering Futaba's dungeon was themed in an ancient pyramid. Smh

The only exceptions are Shido's Cognition of his collaborators, apparently.
I am late with this answer so sorry about that! but i can absolutely understand the confusion if P5 was your first game.. Hell i were confused until they outright expained everything! then again i am not a person that usally otices the small hints!
Bittersweet Gamers think they have the "final boss" all figured out. They think they know it all. Muahahaha.

In fairness the final boss was fishy from the start since he had a different voice actor.

Seeing this part of P5 again makes me really glad and appreciate the VAs going back and providing fully voiced lines for sections such as this one in P5R.
Peas’ reactions are so infectious. He’s just all in and it takes me back to my first play through.

This part of the game (the entire Sae's Palace and Shido's arc) were easily my favorites, along with Kamoshida's because they made a great job to making the player want to get rid of him, about the other two... Sae because you understand how Joker ended up in prison and it was the perfect setup to start Shido's arc and for Shido's arc the feelings are real because you have the chance to punish the guy that made the entire thing to start.
but if you think about it criminal record or not what Shido did was necessary to get Akira in position to help everyone

One thing I don’t understand about Bittersweet Gamer’s rants is why are they hung up on Makoto making the plan? Having your friends do the talking for you is kind of par for the course for silent protagonists in general.
True, but P5 does show Joker's mental thoughts a lot and offers many dialogue prompts for him. The game developers _could_ have written the scene so that Makoto asked him what he thinks of Futaba's idea, and then offer a dialogue option for him to choose. That would've conveyed to the player that the plan was Joker's idea. Something like:
Makoto: Joker, what do you think of Futaba's idea?
Joker: {Trick Akechi into killing a cognition of me inside Nijima's palace... Is there a way to do that?}
Makoto: Well
Joker: I have a plan! // I'll come up with something // It is a risk, but... // Okay, listen everyone.
They also forget that being the leader doesn't mean you're the one who has to think up the plans. Yeah, as leader he does give out the orders and his thoughts are the ones that matter most, but this is the role Makoto has been since out of everyone (aside from Futaba) she is the smartest and has experience making large scale plans as Student Council President. Joker still shows his leadership by being the one that everyone looks up to and the one to rally them together for the operations.
TheGamerJJ that’s also something I was thinking too; he’s an effective unifying force, and while leaders like Joker need the ability to be smart and think on the fly, he doesn’t have to be the only smart one. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that Makoto and Futaba are the pre-meditated plan experts, while Joker’s smarts come from improvisation as I mentioned.
@@PerfectKirby Makoto is even outright called the Phantom Thieves' advisor by Yusuke when she joins them, and the first time you go into Kaneshiro's Palace after she joins, she calls the group out on having acted without any plans or strategy before that point. Joker's the guy making sure everything happens, but Makoto is the one laying out how.
but Joker is not a silent protagonist, there are instances in the game where he has lines (in the prologue the final calling card ect) acted out by Xander Mobus. did you already forget that?

This was hard to follow, but still epic to watch.

Also Makoto actually has always bothered me a bit, but it's because of how the game lacks on a way to give her more characterization than just she's smart and the one with the ideas.
Yeah, it isn't that bad for her to be the one who's capable of bringing the tactics, except that isn't as well played as in P4 with Yosuke and Naoto, or hell, even P3 managed to make you feel like a leader even when Minato has the least lines of the three protagonists.
The game could've delved more into her relationship with Sae or show her even more how she's so distant from people her age and allow her to make a few mistakes more to make her more endearing.
Yet here we are, with a lot of people being divided into two, the ones who call her best waifu and rub her in your face and those that call her a mary sue even though she's still far from that.
I honestly aren't fond of her, in part because of the game's fault and in part because of the annoying fans.
Which is pretty ironic considering that some of my favorite girld from the previous games were Naoto and Mitsuru who are the smart ones of the team and the ones with the ideas.
But... Let's just see what P5R can do to lift up her character.
I agree. I feel like a lot of story beats involving her feel a little too simple. Like her getting her Persona. It feels like it happens because the script said so, not for any good reason.
Then she spends the whole game basically going "I have a plan" but never establishing herself as a person. She just feels like she's there to be a plot device. It's not like Naoto who had the underlying feelings of being looked down on for being a prodigy and feeling that she can't do anything because she's a woman.
Makoto just kinda... doesn't have any issues to overcome. Even the one they present she doesn't overcome and just kind of forgets about.
@@Cirkusleader I think the reason for this is because her confidant story was more focused on her friend instead of the actual person you want to know about. Hopefully the Royal fixed her story, and goes more in depth of her father which was a topic that was kinda brushed off.
@@Cirkusleader Makoto has issues to overcome. The majority of her issues revolve around her being unable to live her own life because of the demands of others: whether it be her sister, the Principal, teachers, or other students, the entirety of her life is her trying to live up to the expectations of others at the detriment of her being true to herself.
Other characters typically got mischaracterized by society (be it Akira being a delinquent, Ann being some kind of ditz, or whatever) but they didn't let that carry over into their actions. But Makoto is different; she let other people define her. To overcome that she had to learn who she was. Her entire Confidant line is about her trying to go out into the world and find out what kind of character she is; and she finds that out by finding how she can have a positive impact on others. Instead of letting all these external forces impact her, she finds she can impact those forces by helping them. She probably has the most realistic story and issue than anyone else.
